I'm creating this thread because I have nightmares very often and I was wondering if anyone else has any similar experiences?

This is also a thread where you can just rant about nightmares, if it makes you feel better or if you just have something you want to get off your chest.

What are your thoughts on them?

Go!

I have them once and a while. Sometimes it's just your mind having a field day with you when you sleep. I had a nightmare a week ago that me and a friend were killed in a pyroclastic flow from a super volcanic eruption.

They pop up every once in a while. Some are completely weird. Others are scary. Some are just annoying. My personal favorite: I'm getting ready for work. I check the clock. I have plenty of time to get to work. I look away from said clock for a second. 5 hours pass. Those used to be dreams about being late for school/some "Really Important Test," but now they've "evolved" to being late for work.

Recently, I had a disturbing dream. I was at a mall, minding my own business. Out of nowhere, a Mysterious Shady Group of People Wearing Hoodies came up to people saying, "If you inject yourself with this," *offers a syringe with some clear liquid inside of it* "I'll give you $4,000." *Other hand shows a wad of cash.* When one of the Mysterious People came up to me, I KNEW the syringe was dangerous and I wanted no part of it and refused. Of course the crowd around me was stupid and only saw the money and started injecting themselves with the Syringe of Doom and went completely insane. I could only watch in horror and people around me started getting bulging eyes and turning into some sort of Creepy...Deformed....Thing. I ran, trying to escape and call for help. Being a nightmare, of COURSE I couldn't get to any exits and the Monster Crowd started gaining on me. I reached a door, but of COURSE it wouldn't open. I was screaming, "NOOOOOOOOO!!! GET AWAY FROM ME!!!" I felt the prick of a needle in my back and then...I woke up. I was pretty shaken.

I may get nightmares occasionally...more often than not, I only remember bits and pieces from my dreams or forget them all together. There are moments when I have a very lucid dream. Others are just bizarre or nonsensical. Most dreams are metaphorical, I like trying to figure out what it means. (If I remember the dream, that is.)

Don't get nightmares, or rather i can't remember any of my dreams so even if i did have a nightmare I won't remember/recognize it.

I don't have them often at all. I personally hate them, because they can be real vivid and appear real...

Personally i dont dream its always black. havent done it since i figured a way to control it. strange at it may sound . i have had some pretty cool dreams and some that i cant remember. but i do sometimes get nightmares or dreams that i dont intend to happen.

When i do get nightmares there pretty real ,super vivid. its crazy the situations ur mind can put u in. The more normal once i have had are usually tamer than the ones that i can recall at the moment . There was one i got killed by being stabbed in the heart, in my dream the person stabbed me twice and on the third one the person twisted the knife . While in my dream i experience sharp electrifying pain each time and it got worse when the person twisted the knife, my actual heart hurt so bad i woke up gasping and clutching where my heart was i was sweating . i also had a dream where i drowned or someone was drowning me i woke up trying to figure out how to breath it took me a while until i was able to process that breathing happens automatically lol. i have had some as well that i have woken up in REM sleep and i am unable to move freakin hate those i can just see . some of my nightmares sometimes go beyond what i have ever intended or thought a dream could go .

Started having nightmares in the late 50's. My Bro and Sis took me to the movies when I was 7 years old. I asked them if they were spooky movies and they said no. One was "I was a teenage werewolf", the other one was "Invasion of the Saucer Men" At that age I had a total phobia where it came to hypodermic needles. In the Invasion of the Saucer Men these dudes had hypodermic needles coming out from under their finger nails. Had nightmares for years after.

Wasn't until my teens and the movie came on T.V. that I figured out what had caused all the nightmares.

Older Bros and Sis's can really suck at times.

Had them before, some that feels a bit too real.
Stopped having any of that.
Although I do like how dreaming did enable some creative thoughts and how it might stimulate the brain.

If you have had some trauma, maybe that could be the reason for some of the nightmares.

I vaguely remember when i was 7 years and under having nightmares that included:

1)having me and my brother lie down and get stabbed in the chest by some dude in armor

2)getting married

3)assaulting one of those stands you find in fashion shops

4)getting pulled away by the police all the while having my mother yell at me

5)and climbing down the stairs of a Mansion for Giants as the door from behind opens revealing Large Heads coming out.

and all but the last one was in my old apartment...to this day i still don't know where any of those dreams came from (aside from number 2, where it might've just been a crush at preschool).

my later dreams were not exactly memorable but around my teens i had nightmares where

1) I fell a large height and the shock woke me up

2,3,4, etc.) one nightmare after another a family member dies

this one might be due to my looming understanding of mortality and inevitability, though i would not even come close to coping with it under later on.

then the later of my life i've just had nightmares of screwing up in high school and college, which was probably (and still is to a lesser extent) construct of my insecurity of failure of practically the only task i was given.

now given my dreams when i was a kid/toddler, would they be considered abnormal to the extreme extent? have you ever had such extremes as a child?
