In an era where most anime can be legally streamed through several different sources I was wondering does anyone see the point of buying physical copies of anime? I personally still do because I like to collect my favorites and I'm still a bit of a caveman when it's comes to streaming but i'm curious, does anyone buy physical anime and if so why?

I still buy physical anime for those shows I really like. For one thing, I can watch them on my BluRay/DVD player hooked onto my 52 inch TV set. The TV is also hooked into a theater surround sound system. Also, with disk media I can watch shows that don't show up on the streaming sites I watch.

For example, the BlulRay of AKB0048 is absolutely stunning.

I'm looking forward to seeing Your Name in Blu Ray on this setup

I didn't before, but I'm thinking of starting soon. It'd be nice not to have to worry about streams expiring on some of my favorite shows.

I am, but I'm buying far less than I used to. My shelf is just getting too overloaded as I was just buying up everything before streaming became widespread.

Of course! I want a physical copy of my anime. Give me Blu ray, DVD and yes VHS and even Beta. When the server goes down what are you going to do when you can't access you anime.

Yes, I still buy some shows on blu-ray/dvd. It's partly to show support for the things I like, partly just for the fun of collecting, and partly because streaming rights don't last forever.

Yes. I own many of the Ghibli films, and a few other movie-length anime that don't show up on Netflix and Crunchyroll. I bought a used blu-ray of The Devil is a Part-Timer a few months ago because it had been removed from Netflix, but a week after I bought it, it appeared on Crunchyroll . I plan on buying your name when it's released in the US, and I will definitely buy Yuri!!! on Ice as well. Just ordered the Cowboy Bebop movie on Amazon-the blu-ray was only $7, so why not?

I own Paranoia Agent on dvd, which is nice, because it's not available to legally stream anywhere that I know of. The dvd is out of print now as well, I've seen used copies of the same set I paid $40 for selling for $250.

Of course I do. Blu-ray is still better than streaming in terms of both audio and video quality plus uncut in most instances. Streaming however has cut-down the amount of blind buys I make cause I write down series that I like from every season in a notebook.

I just buy Blu-ray just for collection reasons, what's about it.

I watch anime the way most people watch TV so something really has to impress me to buy it. Actually, more than just impress me it has to feel like something I can re-watch multiple times. Though I admit I might wait for a couple of years for the price to come down. (However I do that with every Blu-ray/DVD I buy. Games as well. What can I say, I'm a cheapskate.)

That said I do collect Nendoroids from shows that I really enjoyed even if that show might not reach the status of buying the anime.

sometimes the difference in quality between the TV release and bluray is night and day. examples:
dragon ball super (i shouldn't have to mention that episode)
sailor moon crystal
gonna-be twintails
terraformars (spelling? the one where they replaced the gore with black circles)

i'm sure someone else can come up with several more examples of BD being significantly better
