So, I'mw watching Code Geass for the first time, I'm in the second season...So, if you keep on reading and haven't watched it, don't read on or look at any possible posts. Also I'm on Episode 14 of the second season, so please don't spoil, and if you do, make it clear you're going to do so.

Now. Rolo. I like him. I think he's cool. A lot of people hate him for Shirley's death, but personally I didn't think Shirley was that much of a really interesting character. She caused a lot of stuff, she was a good crux, but i didn't really like her that much. Thoughts? Opinions.?

Meh. I wasn't a fan of both Rolo and Shirley.

I don't like or dislike Rolo. I just felt pity for him.

Shirley is much less selfish than Rolo. She likes Lelouch for who he is; Rolo just wants attention. You have to feel bad for Rolo, but Shirley was a better person.

Also, Mao was just stupid. I feel like his existence didn't do anything useful for the story.

I agree with you on Mao. Like what was the point?

^^^^

Though I do think the arc may have gone on a little too long, I think Mao was important to show how the Geass could corrupt, even destroy someone. And to show certain things about the Geass in a interesting manner, as well as show more parts on C.C.'s past and her nature.

Absolutely, Shirley was far more virtuous, but I found her character to be far more bland and uninteresting.

Same for Shirley
Shirley was the unfortunate soul who got caught in a war by falling in love with the same man three times
Rolo was the killing machine who finally found a family

Opposite sides of the same coin really, getting caught up in the other side and having to deal with the consequences (which for Shirley meant death)

I hated him at first for his role in Lelouch's life at the beginning of the second season but he grew on me and became one of my favorite characters. While I didn't find Shirley interesting enough to care about, I didn't like that he killed her for the reasons he had which is jealousy (due to Nunnally and what Shirley could do later on) but still, his death felt sad. He finally found a person who he could call his family and even when he knew it was a lie, he fought for it because to him, it was real.

I love both of them.

I love pretty much every character in the series.

Not going to spoil, though.

But also, the sort of concepts that are explored in Rolo's character are sort of brought up again in Valvrave, which is by the same writer, with the whole Karlstein team, but especially Q-Vier. In some ways, those characters don't have as much depth as Rolo, mostly because the show was so short, and it didn't have enough time to do everything they were trying to do, but at the same time, Q-vier ended up being both cuter and more disturbing. He's all hyper, and he has the effect of a typical plucky anime kid hero (and he's played by Yuuki Kaji),... except then he's talking about killing everyone (like Rolo).

I like Shirley a lot, though. Besides the fact that she's sooo cuuuuute, I feel bad for her, and Lulu loves her so much (as a friend) and I just love the whole student council group. They deserve to be happy.

. . . . Shirley and Euphie should have been friends. That just should have happened.

I think it was to introduce the fact that their is a possibility that other people had Geass too, not just Lelouch, the way they did it kinda sucked, but I guess it was a way to add twists to Lelouch's and Shirley's love life
