Is there any anime series that made you fall in love with the genre(s)?

My Turn/Example:

Gundam Seed/Destiny is the reason why I LOVE mecha and science-fiction anime so much.

What about you?

I'm surprised you didn't say Ergo Proxy or Texhnolyze or Serial Experimentation Lain or Boogiepop Phantom.

But I guess those anime shows that I just listed are heavy psychological anime. By the way, have you seen any of these? I have seen a few episodes of these shows then lost track of time.

I mean no disrespect.

Azumanga Daioh made me fall in love with cute girls doing cute things slice of life comedies. Before then, I pretty much brushed them off as stuff only girls would be into before I understood that this is what guys love in Japan.

I've seen all of them except Boogiepop. Ergo Proxy is the only one I can say I really enjoyed. Ghost in the Shell was the first of the genre I watched, so it was what ultimately led me to those shows.

Oh, okay. I was looking at the genres for Boogiepop and it's Horror and Psychological. Though, it's not gory or anything like that.

Try it out when you get the chance. If you like then that is great but if you don't then at least you gave it a shot.

I had given a chance to sports anime with Prince of Tennis, but it was Haikyuu!! that made me stop disregarding a show just because they were listed in the sports genre

Wait, so, Haikyuu made you hate or love the sports anime genre?

There isn't a genre that I love in its entirety.

The only genre that I can say that a) I love most of the works that I've read/watched in the genre, and b) I love them for the qualities that make them part of that genre, is mysteries. And the things that first made me love mysteries were the first few Harry Potter books, not an anime.

I like Code Geass, but I don't like most mecha anime. I like Kamigami no Asobi, but I don't like most otome game anime. I like Marginal #4, but I don't like most idol anime.

I grew up in the short time Toonami was around in the US. So I would say Cardcaptor Sakura, Rurouni Kenshin, Yu Yu Hakusho, Pokemon and a few others were what got me into anime.

My favorite genre, hard to say, I like lots of them. Supernatural, some Action, Rom-com, moe, etc

Although I've been a Power Rangers fan for longer than I'd like to admit (my SPD disk is nearly worn out), my weakest genre was mecha. The guys in the Anime Face-Off thread suggested several shows, one of which was Suisei no Gargantia. That series spurred an appreciation for mecha and eased my way into Gundam. Now I look forward to watching the genre, including this season's Knight's & Magic.

Okay. Toonami isn't a genre. Is there an anime series that made you fall in love with the GENRE?
