Visa gift cards could cost you more at restaurants

I prefer CASH-- i hate using gift cards.. You have to pay tax for them at purchase+ fees and when you use them---- Places like amazon applied it AFTER they charged you sale tax!! I'm curious if this is legal or not :?

If you have to buy something for someone, please do avoid gift cards

Only for people as gifts...Sometimes, buying gift cards are easier to buy than an actual gift.

I try to avoid "giftcards" but buy pre-paid Visa/MC cards directly from my bank. There are no hidden charges in them most of the time.

Yes, it means I can instantly send a gift token to someone else who's far away without the hassle and cost of dealing with a post office. They can also redeem it at their leisure and choose what they like. No waiting on post or wonder if someone stole a package. I'm in the UK so how they tax is different, VAT is inclusive so it's okay to use Amazon this way.

I never get charged sales tax when paying for a gift card. What did you have in your cart?

I only buy specific gift cards like Amazon gift cards. Those don't have fees. I'm also surprised you were taxed on a gift card purchase, I've never had taxes appear on gift cards before.

Yeah, it forces them to go out and buy themselves something they like rather than spend it on groceries. That's the point of gift cards.

I got a $20 Starbucks gift card last Christmas. Was one of my favorite gifts. I fucking love me some Starbucks.

I don't buy people gift cards because I don't have the money.

Only for special occasions as I'm too lazy to think of an original idea for a gift.

if they charged you for gift card purchase, DEMAND a refund for the tax amount!!! They are trying to scam you.

Do screenshots and post on social media to expose them (if it's repeated offense).. if it's just a mistake.. just ask for a refund
