What's something you used to believe with all your heart until you realize it was the dumbest thing ever? What changed for you? How did you stop believing?

What do you think?

I used to believe in horoscopes.

Now I think they're the dumbest thing ever because I grew up, picked up books on science, and started going to therapy.

"Humans are primarily good."

I stopped believing that once I realized that some people are primarily bad without a meaningful reason. There are some people out there who had good parents and all that, but still turn out like shit. Others have horrible upbringings and are surrounded by horrible people, but manage to become decent people despite that. People are people. Some tend to be kind by default while other's first inclination is to be cruel. The environment someone grows up in factors into how they turn out, but how you were raised doesn't dictate everything.

That's interesting. I always felt humans were just complex creatures........there's a story behind that reasoning.

Oh come now, you can't just say that and not tell the story
Maybe here isn't the best place, but somewhere

Education can be very important. Try getting certain jobs without a degree, see how well it goes.
Really depends on the teacher and subject

And I would like to note the difference between learning and education. I think you would agree (IDK though, maybe I'm an idiot)
Education is concentrated learning in a given area and can facilitate general learning
But it is not the same as learning

Learning is easily one of the best life skills you can have/learn

And I can't think of anything for myself
I've changed my mind plenty of times (even for some fairly big things) but I'd never call something I used to believe stupid. At least, nothing yet.

I used to be an Atheist. Now I'm more spiritually engaged. Life is much better and quieter. It feels good to pray, engineer and meditate. I like to study science, religions and martial arts. There is something calming when you take a holistic approach to life. God, Quantum Dynamics and Swords....ahhhhh like smooth raspberry swirl icecream.

In high school I believed Obama was a communist Muslim who was going to put Christians in concentration camps. In my 9th grade history class I was one of two people who didn't raised their hands when the teacher asked us if we liked Obama.
After high school I started being more open to people and realized I shouldn't force my religious views on others. I also accepted the fact that I was gay.

I was able to shake so much weight off my shoulders.

That love was the most important thing. Not only it isn't, but it does not justify a LOT of people's actions. Maybe you can't control how you feel, but you can always control how you act (and if you can't bc of any mental illness/issue, it's not anyone else's fault. There is not excuse to harming others. Having a reason does not make things okay.)

Religion.

Part of my coming-of-age I guess?

Realizing most of the reasoning to anything god-of-the-gaps related is loaded with sophistry.
