Why does Crunchyroll not have Death Note? Death Note is one of the greatest anime of all time and Crunchyroll would definitely benefit from including it in their roster. It can't be that they don't like the concept as they have the (shitty) TV drama. I heard someone say that it was because of it having a "drab" art style, which, if that is the case, is stupid since CR has Parasyte: The Maxim which has an art style that is equally "drab".

It's a decade old anime... That is available on Netflix the biggest streamer on the planet. Just what financial worth would it be to CR to pay for its licensing to show it here proving Netflix don't have the rights to it locked down already (they can certainly afford to keep it exclusive).

Because someone else has it in the US or other territories. That is how companies prefer to licenses. With utmost exclusivity.

It's also available on Hulu.

It's also available just about every darn where, because Funi knows the mainstream dub is a hit and LICENSES it every darn where.
It's not one of their extraneous sub shows like My Hero Academia or Assassination Classroom that they can let the Other Site take care of for them, while they handle the hit mainstream-fan dubs.

Because it's licensed by Viz Media in the US who does not put any of their shows on Crunchyroll. It's available on Netflix, Hulu and Amazon.

Naruto, Boruto, Bleach, Terraformers (they announced the license just before S2), JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (announced the license just before Part 4), Sailor Moon Crystal. They also just announced they have the rights to Mr. Osomatsu (https://twitter.com/VIZMedia/status/896132241885061120) and I'd be shocked if season 2 isn't on Crunchyroll.

There is a difference between a shared license (or one CR had first) vs. something licensed to CR by Viz. AFAIK, the latter has never happened.

Death Note was licensed by Viz long before CR went legit. It began airing in the US in October 2007 (about a year after Japan), so Viz would have acquired the license sometime before that. The only titles CR has gotten that Viz had licensed long before CR (e.g. Bleach,Naruto) were those licensed by TV Tokyo, one of CR's early partners and investors.

Ok, you can qualify my statement with *Viz is unlikely to stream in Crunchyroll unless it's a long running mainstream shojo or shonen show that Viz puts up everywhere or it's a show that Crunchyroll had been streaming and Viz licensed it after like Jojo & Osomastsu-san. Death Note is neither of those so it's not up on Crunchyroll.
