Real, human characters.

Being able to relate or idolize a character is largely irrelevant to me.

So, you want a flawed and imperfect character?

Like it or not, flaws are what makes us human. So a perfect character is always one of two things, a self insert character without a personality or just boring due to them nlt having any features we can relate to.

I think perfect characters with little to no flaws can be very entertaining and written to have personality if done right.
It's just usually not done right.

I want a person

A person has things they do right and things they wrong
They have flaws and strengths
Some have more of one
Others have many strengths but are only put into situations that highlight their flaws

They have values, ideals, hopes, dreams, and morals

Give me that as best you can and with what limited look into the character's life you have

Definitely a character you can see yourself in...but they are projected as better, stronger and wiser. So as a result you idolize them, but also feel connected to them because you relate. Obviously there are aspects of this that could be changed, like the character could be the good parts of you or the bad. But either way you're going to feel a sense of familiarity with them. Which is often the strongest bond in a relationship.

Do you want a character you can relate to or a character you want to simply idolize?

It really depends on my mood, but I'm more of a "both" person than anything.

I just want characters that are not so stupid or OP that they are completely unbelievable. Bakemonogatari, Classroom of the elite, Blast of tempest, and Mushi shi to name a few shows I thought the characters were atleast average intelligence, witty, but still got the job done

Psychological realism. Maybe I should be reading literary fiction instead.

That's more or less what I look for. I like my characters to be someone I am not, but could be, and would like to be.

I could be confusing you with someone else but aren't you an aromantic asexual?

With real life people, yeah.
2D aren't real though so it doesn't count

Someone I idolize because then I can have someone to look up to and strive to be.

That's good to know and there's nothing wrong with that.

I like Characters like Zaraki Kenpachi. Ones who have a lust for battle and can take a lot of pain. I am similar in the sense that when I see any obstacle, I treat it like a brick wall and will bash my head against it until either it, or I, fall. I only have 1 speed, and its 110 percent. You overclock your body and push the pain to the side and suffer the consequences the next day or week.
