Not sure if you questions regarding Kanbaru will get answered though they do go a bit more into Gaen before the end of the main plot. Kanbaru gets a bunch more time in the side stories, I wonder if they plan to animate them or if they just want to end on the final book.

I found this old Tweet earlier today that seems to indicate Shaft has already started working on animating Off Season for months now, unless Google Translate somehow made a gigantic error that coincidentally makes it look like it's talking about Off Season. No 100% confirmation though and I'm not sure if anything made after ZokuOwari is part of Shaft's commitment to animate the entire series, but I'd be surprised if they decide to stop at Final Season (which only has 1 arc left after Ougi's) and not continue when the series is still incredibly popular and it's their biggest cash cow.

That tweet was found here btw.

The third episode is now up, and it's three episodes worth of content: http://www.crunchyroll.com/owarimonogatari/episode-3-chapter-three-ougi-dark-744751

Episode 3

Ougi makes her move, while Gaen organizes a counterstrategy, which involves making Mayoi into a god seeing that the place used to be a lake until Kiss Shot arrived, and is in need of a new god. As for Ougi, her true identity is Koyomi himself and more specifically, his dark side that is always criticizing himself manifested into her. So at the confrontation, Koyomi lets Ougi know who she really is, and that marks not only the end of Ougi, but the end of his adolescence. Even so, Koyomi won't let his other self go into the void, even going as far as to lose an arm desipte not being immortal anymore, and Ougi has been acknowledged as an existence. So after all that, Koyomi and Shinobu go back to who they were, while Koyomi has decided to change and grow up, but still staying true to himself. Lots of psychological warfare involved, but in the end Koyomi takes a big step in his life in a big way here. And thus, comes the end of the Monogatari series as it was all nicely done once again.

This was so faithful...wow.

From start to finish, the psychology and character journey of Araragi, Mayoi, Ougi, are all so well done. Imo, I think volume 3 is the best out of the Owarimonogatari saga.

It went in depth with the story that explored the personal demons of Ougi, which turns out to have a revelation related to Araragi himself. The mystery elements kept me engaged throughout the entire duration of the third volume. Ofc, they added in comedy and the intruging dialogues + word plays are always entertaining to watch.

It's also nice that they kept many characters relevant from the previous seasons. Such an emotional journey. Even the artwork (most noticable in Mayoi Hell's first half and Ougi Dark's 2nd part) is noticable. I won't forget this anime for sure.

If this is how it ends, I can feel satisfied with it. However the show is still listing as ? for total number of episodes, and it feels like there could be more stories to come(not to mention after finishing the 3rd episode I don't get a series completion award.). I am relieved Araragi-kun became a quasi vampire again, Shinobu-chan would be lonely and probably end the world in 50-60years. The girl at the end... anyone know who that is supposed to be?

On a side note I was impressed that for almost half the episode I felt on the verge of tears even though it wasn't necessarily a sad portrayal of events. The writing was phenomenal and I would argue the series as a whole is one of the best Anime out there regarding art, storytelling, intrigue, and capturing the audience.

EDIT: Ah by the way for anyone who was wondering... if you look back at Surguru Devil section Araragi-Kun is attending college with Hitagi0chan so he must have passed his entrance exams. A bit annoyed we didn't get to see Hitagi ostracizing him for w/e score he got but cant be helped.

Wow, amazing how that was all woven together to end like that everyone got to play a part, phenomenal. (Well except Kanbaru and Kaiki but I guess that's why we got Hanamonogatari). I don't know how Nisioisin kept all that straight for that long. I am so glad there will be more down the road this show is too good to end. Oh and I forgot to mention it yesterday but yay for Senjyougahara with long hair again! Now I have to rewatch it again to see all the things I missed the first time.

Phew, got a bit teary eyed at the end there Everything about the story and what it built upon just worked out extremely well with this last episode. A story without a doubt I will most likely remember forever. Definitely, looking forward to whatever is to come from the newer volumes (I guess the side stories... I am not sure honestly) and what they are going to tell. But man, phenomenal work from the writer and studio shaft for the animation.

I agree with watching it in airing order, if nothing else because everything unfolds nicely that way. You could theoretically watch it in chronological order (each episode says the date) however that would take a lot of research and a lot of back and forth. To say nothing the many story lines would become a jumbled incoherent mess.

This show is not for everyone you'll either love it or hate it, rarely anyone in between. Alot of the humor is satire and play on words. Hope you get through bakemonogatari and join the fan-club. Cheers!

I might have missed this, but are stories from the "off season" novels a some sort of continuation of the main story or are they simply side-stories?

Some are side stories, while some bring in more plot development. For example, one of them is a prequel describing how Shinobu came to be a vampire. And then it bounces back and forth quite a bit between Koyomi's university years, and after he graduates from university. I'm really hoping both off season and monster season are animated, this was a great end, but I would love to see more~

yeah, frankly when I wrote that I realized that most companies do tend to keep making whatever makes them money and I am sure shaft is no exception.

On another note, I did forget about the stuff in Ougi dark about Kanbaru's mom etc. Also, ZokuOwari is more like a weird side story that happens to star Araragi then a true ending to the series. In my opinion, Ougi Dark puts a better ribbon on the series then ZokuOwari.
