Robot talking over unskilled jobs? I thought that the foreign workers, who accpet low-paid and harsh working condition, are talking the jobs? Are the business managers in US attempting to hire robot just because the populists had forcebly exile many immgrants? Human workers do have an advantage over machine by superior elasticity, or the ability to respond to new demand and supply. However, elasticity provide long-term advantage and managers prefer short-tern advantage.

I think you underestimate the long-term value of automation, monetary-wise. It's not managers behind the use of them. That, and some want their Jetson futures. Also, there's no reason why both underpaid immigrants and unpaid automation aren't attractive to those who want to squeeze out as much profit as is humanly possible; however, it's likely that the specific minds behind this burger-flipping robot isn't aiming to make their names in innovation, rather than giving a damn about the whole worker thing.

Well, that, and I think you over-estimate the intelligence of higher-ups.

True, but define short sighted?
More complex jobs may be 50 years down the road
That's generally not short-sighted

The biggest jump is going to be making engineer robots, that is a robot that can design robots to do other jobs. Then things will really get interesting.

I probably should have used a better word than short sighted, and quoted bernardwheelerjr's own post. To me his post sounded like a old fart taking a shot at the " entitled generation" without considering the possibility that later on robots will be capable of taking jobs from anyone regardless of position.

Fair enough
Though he does have somewhat of a point. Part of the point of entry level jobs and requiring work experience is to ensure that the people know how to work. I honestly don't what will happen going forward. You don't have job experience because you literally can't have job experience. One good option is for colleges to step up their internships programs immensely. And changing up school and college in general to better prepare us for work. And in that regard, I will admit there is entitlement in our generation. How much and how widespread, I make no claims for. I also thing younger generations are worse, though I may just be getting old

I wouldn't want it to flip me burger I mean what if Cockroach run by and the robot hit it while fliping burgers and since its a machine it doesn't know about bugs or other germs.. I'll ending up having Roachesburgers Haha

I bet you all never thought of that! :p Imagine Robots working in our warehouse and they ending up mixing the orders since they're not familiars with it.. they'll keep making mistake and I'm pretty sure the Human manager probably sleeping.

Also we'll be out of jobs! XD Well I'm Roman Emperor so I'm not worrying about it! And also Robots work for me!

Not sure about roach but there are already rat meat burgers...

That would be one example of elasticity on a microscale: the robot cannot respond to new demand by itself and a human need to meet the new demand of pest monitoring by surveying the robot. Saying that the robot "don`t know" is not a good wording as the robot would not care nothing more than what it was specifically programed to do under a very specific context.

When the cost of labor exceeds its value, burger bots certainly become more attractive. "Living wage", nice buzzwords; minimum wage now $0.
