Alrighty, summer 2017 anime is at the halfway point, so let's do this!!

Go ahead:

Which summer 2017 anime is YOUR hidden gem?!

Going with Magical Circle Guru-Guru. No one is talking about that show and if they are, then it must be in secret, lol.

Princess Principal for me.

Only started watching it earlier this week. The key visual for it didn't stand out, synopsis wasn't really eye-catching, and the show name didn't really sound exciting. It only caught my attention when I saw a short clip of it on YouTube and the character designs caught my eye.

Fast forward a few days and I'm completely caught up to the anime. I quite like the show. Great characters, some good action, really nice art (both character and background), and an interesting general premise. The synopsis says that there's some kind of school, but that's really hardly involved in the story. There may be a bit of lewd moments, but none of that is unnecessary fanservice.

Princess Principal
Amazing series that combines bad ass action with great characters, a steampunk-esque setting and some cloak-and-dagger. Plus, just maybe, some yuri.

Made In Abyss
It only looks like a kids show at first glance. Gorgeous art and superb environment and creature design, plus a story and characters that will grip you instantly.

Koi To Uso
Major romantic drama and a thought provoking setting. If you liked Scums Wish but found it a little too, well, scummy this will fit the bill for you perfectly. A love triangle crafted well enough to where you actually don't want to see anyone "lose."

Tsuredure Children
Hilarious send up of all the common anime romance tropes with excellent writing and a unique but approachable art style.

Aho Girl
Extremely dumb but also extremely funny, with a little dash of intelligence sprinkled on top. Great show to watch on it's own or as a bit of a palette cleanser alongside some darker faire.

I don't think Koi to Uso should count as a hidden gem, because it was hyped AF over here. Billboards, commercials, Manga displays. Hell even ads on the subway train. I remember people even talking about it online already before the first episode dropped.

Now with that out of the way I am going to go with Tsurezure Children. It had a lot going against it. It wasn't one of the first shows out of the gate. It got virtually no hype. The animation and art style are very quirky and almost caused me to not watch, I also wasn't looking for another comedy short after Aho Girl. But, It is quite an amazing little show. The characters are all amazing. The dialog is good. The kids' inner monologues and thoughts are great to hear and see. The characters are all likeable and loveable and makes you want to cheer them on and see them be happy. The comedy is pure gold at time and the timing is great. The soundtrack is great. The only things holding it back are it being a short and the art style is a bit clunky at times. It does match the manga art style pretty well though from what little I have seen to compare it to.

Fastest Finger First. The premise can make you wonder if they're running out of "ordinary kid gets caught up in some sort of subculture that turns out to be brimming with competition and intensity" ideas, but the show itself is really watchable.

personally I can't wait for spring to show up, there have been such fantastic shows in the last 4 seasons. Summer hits and I keep waiting for a good show to pop up in the middle of the season, something I can go back and watch show to date.

I tried to watch sakura quest up too the 9th ep but I keep telling my self to go back to it but its honestly too repetitive
I avoid anything mentioning dragon balls, cards or monster collecting. I do watch the mecha shows generally (grew up watching macross(robotech) and never stopped since then. I miss the characters and art of grimgar of fantasy and ash the first ep I knew this was going to be a fantastic show they gave life to the enemies you could see the goblin fear as he didn't want too die., the desperation of attack on titan, my surprise of how good eromanga sensei was.the tragedy you know was coming of worlds end

last few seasons I had as many as 7 shows to watch, Now I am watching 2.

If you had to pick ONE show for sumer, whats to special to it. is it a guilty pleasure, great character development (anohana for example), what makes it so special to you and why everyone should know of it.

I think, for me this season, it's reallllllly hard to just pick one but if I had to...I'd go with...boy is this tough...Angel's 3 Piece. It's just so feel good seeing the relationships (old and new) developing between the characters. Kyo and Sakura may just be the cutest "upcoming" couple this season and his playing big brother to the little ones (as well as his own little sister) just add to the mix. Yes, there are some tropes and a bit of ecchi but the heartfelt feel good moments make sitting through them feel so worthwhile for me. It's why I love Non Non Biyori, Sweetness and Lightning and Poco's Udon World so much.

Technically couldn't anything be considered a "hidden gem" this season? Seems like most of the typical hype shows got snapped up by Amazon or Netflix and relegated to the sidelines.

Gonna echo Tsuredure Children and Princess Principle, both have been pleasant surprises.
