Only time I've been scammed is when I was a kid. A carny took $20 off me $2 at a time. He would easily show me how to beat the game and give me another shot to "win it all back". My siblings bought toys and souvenirs, and I probably funded some guy's meth habit. You live and you learn, it was a good lesson.

That carnival also featured the world's most amateur crocodile show.

I remember winning a beautiful place at a resort in Mexico back in the 80s. A friend of mine won a place there too. All it would cost was $120 to finalize the deed and it would be ours for life or until we decided to sell it. It included a small home, shared lake, tennis court, entertainment facilities, and a few other things. We said what the hell and gave it a shot.

Well, she decided to go see what it was like with her husband. The first obstacle she faced was no airport with 12 hrs of it. Then came having to rent am off-road vehicle to get there because there were no roads. Well, after a long ride there they find no lake...no tennis court...no buildings of any kind except a trailer. The person in the trailer informs her that the lake will be man-made...after a few years. She's then told that the tennis court will be built,,,after the lake as well as the other entertainment buildings. The homes? Oh we'll have to hire them to build us the homes on our 1/16th acre lots. It seems none of the pictures in the booklet actually existed. Well she left and went to the nearest big town's town hall. She asked them about the situation to find...it's illegal for non-Mexican citizens to buy land. It seems what we got was a 10-year lease on a 1/16th acre piece of property. Even the part of living there for life was a scam. We paid for our 10 year lease only to be told that it would take about 12 years to make the place live-able. So we owned a lease on a piece of Mexican land that we couldn't even apply to build on due to being non-citizens. Wouldn't help even if we could though, there was no electricity, gas or even water for miles around.

... that sounded too good to be true from the beginning, I can't believe anyone actually fell for something so dumb lol no offense.

I was 13 or 14 at the time and my aunt was what we referred to as a "rainbow chaser" so as you can gather it looked good to both of us back then . I remember a friend of mine and I (he bought into the deal too) going around Junior High referring to ourselves as Mexican Landowners .. when kids in school saw our actual "deeds" they were quite impressed .

If you consider Lincoln an "edgy conservative", sure.

If I don't recognise the number on my phone I will always let it go to voice mail.

If they don't leave a response, blocked.

a police officer from another city called me once from a private number... I didn't pick up the phone so she sent a request to the local police department and a police officer was knocking on my door 30 minutes or so later (It was about our stolen motorcycle- ended up in that city)

I guess there are exceptions

even the employees of the police department will use private numbers.. but not picking it up is the best.. since if they are the cops or employees they will do what is necessary to contact you if it's important (leaving a message or have a local police knocking on your door).
