I've been using the Crunchyroll app on an Amazon Firestick, and on many of the shows I watch, there are subtitles that disappear so fast that I can't even pause to read them. It isn't all of the subtitles, and it seems to be worse on certain shows.

I first noticed it on an episode of Fate/Kaleid liner Prisma Illya.
So far it has been the worst on Trinity Seven. I've watched 7 episodes of the show so far, and there has been at least one instance of subtitles disappearing too quickly in every single show. In episode 6 I would say there was a subtitle that disappeared too quickly every 5 minutes.

Is this even something that Crunchyroll can address, or is this a problem on the production companies' side?

On another note, is there a way to get rid of the huge box that appears when I pause? It's kind of annoying when I pause a scene trying to read translated text on the screen and it ends up being blocked by the huge box that appears in the middle.

I would think that there's something Crunchyroll can do about it, the subtitles are editable. The subtitles must be the way they are for a reason though, and I'm sure they do their best to keep them on the screen for as long as possible. There are some shows that move way to fast for anyone reading the subtitles to keep up, the main priority for the subtitles are to match the on screen dialogue and I don't think that will ever change.

For the issue regarding the box that blocks the screen when paused on the Amazon Firestick, all you can do is open a thread in the Suggestions / Feedback section and contact Crunchyroll suggesting it. The same goes for slowing down the on screen subtitles. The issue that's most likely to be fixed would be the box that pops up when you pause.

This goes beyond trying to keep up with the dialogue. Some of the subtitles would stay up for less than a quarter of a second. So fast that you can't even pause.

I've gone about 3 weeks now and watched about 40-50 episodes from about 4 or 5 shows and haven't had the problem.

The past couple of days though I have been having buffering problems.

The issues are probably connected then.

Make sure everything is fully updated, try to get the best connection possible to your router if you can use Ethernet. If you're still having buffering issues try streaming at a lower video quality and see if that helps.

I’m having the same issue and it’s definitely not a dialogue upkeep. The dialogue will still be up for several seconds the character talks but no subtitles because they disappeared right after they popped up
