Girls are weird, I prefer a game of Crusader kings II.

This guy, he gets it people. He GETS IT. Paradox is the only girlfriend I need.

You probably should just close the thread, since nothing positive or beneficial is coming from this cesspool of drama. People make mistakes, just don't do it again. I have nothing else to add since everyone else has done a good job pointing out the flaws of your argument and actions.

Hmm.

My instinct would be not to write such a thing: I don't know that you've "dragg[ed] her name through the mud," as Cardamom_Ginger says, since Crunchyroll is at least superficially anonymous, but as a rule the internet is never fully anonymous. Though even if it were impossible for anyone to figure out who either of you are, it's probably still fair to say that disparaging her to the world at large is selfish and needless, if not cruel; this is the kind of thing to talk about with friends, not the mass of idiots online. (Perhaps a forum dedicated to relationships might be better, as AsukaAyanami suggested, though I am wary of the internet.) Some of the things people are saying here make sense, but a lot of it is childish. So I have to wonder: how do people here decide they have relevant knowledge to convey? For me at least, I decided to say something because a couple people brought up questions I found interesting (is this something to talk about in an anime forum, what are the author's unconscious goals in writing this, etc.), and I do think I have relevant things to say about them: First of all, this is certainly far more worthy a topic than the endless rehashings of low-level political arguments going on around here: it's personal as opposed to national, and both mundane and universal. And the community of users gets to define how we use the forums - within the bounds set by the moderators - so I don't think there's any problem with this thread being here (whether or not the thread is a good idea is a different issue).

Though I'd trash the rest of what he said, Nyxali did say one interesting thing: that you should hate yourself instead. Granted, I doubt he had actual introspection in mind, as his suggestions for why you should hate yourself were stupid; he was almost certainly just trying to be mean. AsukaAyanami does this the right way, by pointing out how your story actually reads, and what it acts like it's asking for. See, people think and behave in tropes: going for the "cautionary tone" gimmick AsukaAyanami mentions is one of them, as is talking about "hoes" in this situation. Indeed, one could probably write a bot that could predict the majority of the comments on this thread (probably not AsukaAyanami's, though). It is rare that we take those tropes - the chunks of thought we've learned to put together to form opinions - and dissect them to see their constituent parts. The first thing I thought when I read your post was that the idea that you gave yourself fully. and were completely open, is the height of arrogance. (You eventually even said you were "fucking perfect" to her, which, man, I wish I were that perfect in something.) Perhaps you were open in the things you knew how to be open in, and you gave the parts of yourself you knew how to give, but to do either in everything is impossible. We humans don't know ourselves well enough to be open in everything - and what you know to give, or to be open in, might not be what your ex-girlfriend needed. Even if what you gave was deep, and not just superficial, perhaps that wasn't a useful deep thing to give. Being in a relationship means dealing with those two sets of incoherent and incomplete understandings of yourselves, your needs, and your expectations. It is in that regard that you both failed.

Of course, it's entirely possible that your ex-girlfriend was horrible, and it was her faults that sank your relationship. But you also weren't able to strategize around her faults, work through your shared issues, or to see fully how things would go. You know you can look back at the past year and recount the places where you did something you shouldn't have. For these things - for not knowing yourself in this fashion - you should at least kick yourself, if not hate yourself. Hate yourself also for whining here - for needing to whine here - about why you lost, instead of knowing why already. All of us need to whine sometimes, but it's better not to have to whine. I'm not trying to be mean by putting it this way, but I am trying to be serious: all of us have parts of ourselves that we really ought to hate. And just commiserating with you won't do anything about that. I do feel for you, though: life sucks sometimes. and even if it is partly our own faults, it still sucks.

Saying "These hoes ain't loyal" sounds so old-fashioned. I mean it's an old meme.

If there is anything I can tell about reputation smearing, is that relationships are the most prone to a biased hatred and a lack of self awareness. I learned that from a very special book. That book being If I Did It By O.J. Simpson. To add some levity to what Auroraloose said, and also because it is the first thing that came to mind, honestly.

This thinly veiled confession doubling as a self exoneration by O.J. Simpson really angers me so.

Eh, sorry I do not have anything to add.

Sorry you had a crappy relationship experience.

I'm moving this over to the Chit Chat forum. That's the right place for threads that are more for personal conversation like this one.
