I don't which bits of the site you guys are looking at, but the only time I ever encounter "phobic" or "ist" comments is when a self-identified minority starts a thread with "Y'all (insert buzzword here)-ist and I hate y'all". The responses are not so much to be expected, but more like earned.

Overcome challenges, it'll make you a better person.

As if anime fans hate races outside of their own lol. Yeah i hate everyone who isn't white! That's why i watch anime! that's why i listen to hip hop! that's why i think Asian girls are hot! that's why i love Asian food! that's why i get along with many non whites at work, as i did in school.

My opinion on gays and trans and Islam has nothing to do with anime. if anything anime has made me like other races and cultures and people MORE.

Not sure where having a bad opinion on women comes into this lol? i like anime girls, i really like them, as with Japanese girls so anime in no way has made me feel bad about women.
I guess i used to be really into hentai which contained a lot of violence against women/rape but that didn't make me want to do that or hate women lol.

Funny thing is, you could really consider Japanese to be racist. As far as their pride, lack of immigration, Japanese only establishments, etc

I have experienced anime fans being real dick heads though. But it wasn't because they were into anime. I dont think i've ever met a "weeb"?
I mean i kinda was one as far as when i was younger i was always on about how anime is superior to western cartoons and JRPG's are the best and shit like that.
But it seems that just as many anime fans are the opposite of everything the OP mentioned so really i think we're all the way we are without anime having a dam thing to do with it at all.
Iam pretty sure there are people you wont like at hip hop forums, car forums, football forums, etc.

Obviously, not everyone is like this and this post isn't to demonize people who are. I am just genuinely curious why so many people are.

As a straight male living in the U.S., I would definitely say these things don't affect me personally but I see them as extremely important and we should all care about them.

A comment explaining why would be appreciated. I am definitely looking forward to hearing some interesting opinions!

The real question is, why weebs exist?

Not kind of. That is exactly what it is. In my time on this board, I could count on my fingers how many times I have seen a blatantly racist comment, and I have only seen a small handful of other comments that have implicit racism.

Really, I mean ...really.

Are you surrreeeeeeeee?

I just decided this summer to be active in the forum, I think or last school year ....spring semester.....January.

Either way, I actually can agree with him.

It's a bit scary.

I don't know that they are necessarily more common among weebs and anime fans versus fandoms of other forms of entertainment etc.
I do wonder why they use an anime streaming site's forums to talk about it instead of say 4chan where such things seem to be allowed to fester.

I think weeb is one of if not the most misused and misunderstood words of all times
Weeaboo
A non japanese person who basically denounces their own culture and calls themselves japanese. They try to learn japanese through the anime they watch and usually end up pronouncing it wrong and looking like a complete idiot.

KEEP IN MIND: that a non-japanese person can like the culture, watch anime, speak the language and RESPECT THE CULTURE, while still keeping in touch with there own. Which keeps them from being a Weeaboo, japanophile, ect.

I have never once ever heard a Japanese person call some one a weeaboo

No one made those comments, and if any were made at all, they were probably reported and banned before many saw them.

But, people have been spreading this lie that racism, etc. is more common than it really is because they want to create fear & hate directed against their enemies. They are often foreign agents, or well-meaning people they have duped. So much money in the world is wasted on spreading harmful ideas to destabilize populations, sadly.

yup you're right to a degree.

obviously not everyone with an anime avi is racist... but per capita it sure looks like compared to people with their selfie avis, Sports avis and celeb avis, etc, that anime avis are generally more right leaning conservatives than others.

and of course not all the conservative anime avi guys are racist. most are good friends of mine knowing i'm black and all, but on the conservative side of things people are generally less inclusive of other races and etc. and being on twitter you find a bunch of them. anime avis who want to kill off muslims and jews. anime avis who hated my Black Rem avi (like why do you care). lot of them with maga hats photoshopped on. it was so bad that i had to put "Obama fan"on my twitter bio so people would stop assuming the red ATLANTA FALCONS hat on my avi was a TRUMP HAT

if i had to give it a reason its probably 4-chan, which we all know started out as an anime site itself. 4-chan we all know is like right wing cesspool of the internet and thats generally where most of those guys come from

Now, I am going to rant.

Is this Iconism ..in the making?

Your Icon doesn't mean crap about your choices, it just shows which anime you are currently crushing on.

You are on a ANIME website, and it should be perfectly normal to have a Anime avi. In fact, that should be the majority, so.....

Also, my biggest pet peeve is the entire statement ....well I'm black. So what?

That doesn't make your opinion more valid, and you aren't speaking for a community of African American...just yourself.

So, what is knowing your race suppose to mean?

I mean isn't that kind of a random thing to post out there for no reason, especially when nothing is being address about race. African Americans aren't the only ones in minority in the USA, there is hispanic, asian, Korean, heck ...Indian, Native American. I know we were the biggest minority race ...but darn it ...can't you just stand your opinion on your opinion.

If you think conservatives anime guys are your good friends ...then they are your good friends. But, I have seen a cat live quite nicely with the mouse in his house, but kill the ones in the yard with no hesitation.

That doesn't mean they are good people, just good people to you.

Also, before someone points that out, I am not saying conservatives are bad people, or cats, or whatever, but you can't make blanket statements about people like that. They are who they are, and if they are good to you, then they are good to you. Take it for what it is, and don't try to make it apply to other people.

Is it bad to be a racist.
To be honest, no.
It's only bad when you actually do harm to someone else.
When you try to force your ideals onto someone else.
You can hate me, but as long as you do no harm ...I don't care.

Same thing if you are gay, lesbian, trans, or straight.
Is it bad to be one?
No.
As long as you do no harm.

Shouldn't it be much more important to simply be a good person.
Treat people the way you would like to be treated.

Some people aren't here for the anime.

They're here specifically to spread their toxicity. And they create thread, after thread, after thread with the sole goal of spreading cancer.

You know who they are. I wouldn't consider them 'weebs'. They came to this board with an agenda.

I am thinking the same thing notice most of them aren't even members. There is a real simple way of getting rid of troll make it so only members can post and I bet 90% of the troll will vanish

Absolutely hilarious and for the most part true. I personally am not any of these categories, but it is easy to see people fall into those labels because the misused the wrong pronoun.

I saw a comment the other day that CR has 1 million users paying a regular subscription. The CR forum also contains a large number of users without a subscription. Out of all those users who have some interest in anime, manga or Japanese culture, what proportion of those post comments that are "racist, sexist, homophobic, and/or transphobic"? I suspect it is a very tiny minority.
