So I looked up a wiki article on Gekkostate, the protagonist group from the series, Eureka Seven. And unfortunately, it revealed plot details I haven't gotten to in the series yet.

Will I still be able to enjoy Eureka Seven even after inadvertently looking up spoilers?

I think you should. Just won't be as surprised as much. Besides you invested time and energy into the show so you might as well watch it to completion.

And there is one thing that bothers me regarding the treatment of spoilers. I feel like there is an unwritten law on the internet that you are outright forbidden to look up spoilers, period. And, if any time you do look up spoilers, you are outright forbidden to read, watch, or play material that you got spoilers to.

I mean, what the hell is the logic behind spoilers if everyone treats it like it's an act of heresy, on the level of burning the American flag?

Never heard of that myself. The only rule/courtesy that I know of is that if a spoiler is mentioned then it should be presented in such a way that a person can read or skip it depending on desire. Like we have spoilers tags here. Or at least say that spoilers are ahead. In other words give the reader a choice and don't force spoilers on the readers.

So essentially, I can choose for myself whether or not I look up spoilers, so long as I respect other people's desire to avoid them. Right?

if you suffer from memory issues then you probably won't remember, but that's the dangers of searching things here on the net, you could either consider it a free watch or decide to watch the show. I wasn't really all that impressed with it, seen it, won't see it again, but it's worth the watch at least once.

Correct. Just remember when you see a spoiler if you need to share..give the readers a choice.
