The Chinese “Manhua”, a word used in China to refer not only to cartoons and comics but also to translations of Japanese words and to comics in the Chinese language, has made huge progress in the past few years in China due to the large investment by government and other investors.

For example, “Guarding”, “Armored Gull”, “Legendary of White Crane” and “Cooped Phoenix”, these four are very popular in China. They are published on Vcomic, the online Chinese manhua platform of Sina Comic. The official translation version of these manhua will release in the future. Besides, you can already find some English version translated by fans on some websites. I think "Guarding" are probably one of the well-known manhua among English readers.

When I attended Anime Expo in July, many fans told me that they have interest in these manhua. Some Chinese manhua painting style is quite different from Japanese manga, such as "Legendary of White Crane". And the stories are deeply influenced by Chinese culture and history that makes these manhua unique.

In my opinion, Chinese manhua is a good way for American fans to learn about Chinese culture and it will become the bridge between China and U.S. So what do you think about Chinese Manhua? or any recommended manhua you have read before?

I've read one obscure manhua a long time ago where the art was phenomenal and the story took place during wuxia times, but I don't remember the name of it. There was one other one I read where a girl genderbends into a guy in a VR game, and I thought that was kind of decent, but I'm not caught up with it anymore. But seeing the pic you just posted now kinda makes me want to try reading some more though. So I guess I'll take these as recommendations, thanks!

I've read a few Korean manhwa rather than Chinese manhua. Brawling Go is IMO particularly good.

Bizarrely, apart from Guarding which you posted above, I think the only manhua I'm reading are yuri/BL romances.
19 days
Tamen de gushi
And then that one girl/girl couple that's kind of abusive but has really cute art.

The only one I've really liked was Lovely Everywhere, a shoujo-style romance set in Taiwan. It has a slightly different feel than shoujo manga, but at the end of the day it is still a "odd girl meets popular guy" romance.

I read Yaoguai Mingdan. It's not flawless, of course, but I like a lot most of the characters. Not only that, but the whole "environment" of ancient China is really awesome. (Yeah, I have a thing for ancient china/japan since the old days when I used to play Perfect World that had amazing songs and sceneries xD)

Nope, I don't read manhua, plus manhua doesn't appear quite manly like Lupin III, Kinnukuman, Golgo 13, GTO, Golden Boy, Dragon Ball, Vagabond, Zipang or even City Hunter.

Best Chinese Manhua I have read is Song of the Long March. The artwork and the story are 100/10.
