Woman finds baby son's coffin is empty

Just spotted this news story from Scotland about a woman who believed they mixed up the remains at the hospital and buried the wrong child but after 42 years they now discover the coffin was empty, other than baby clothes with no DNA trace.

Somehow babies turn up missing in quite a few graves. Seems like it would be hard to misplace them when they aren't too common.

Yeah I'd be livid, to say the very least.

It is suspected that it was intentional in order for hospital research. Why I think research is something that should be encourage (As well as organ donations) more than any physically accommodated burials, it IS her son.

What made her think that after 42 years they should exhume the body?
You'd think that after a whole half century that she would have come to terms with it and not need to check it was still there?

She has apparently been fighting for 42 years to get answers but has only recently managed to convince the authorities to let her exhume the body. Another shocking fact for me here is that this is 16 years after a report into a major organ retention scandal in the UK was published (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alder_Hey_organs_scandal). The authorities should have been much quicker to respond after that incident. The poor woman still wants to find answers but I expect a number of former staff at the hospital will have died in the last 16 years. The most senior staff at the time would be around a hundred today.

There was a scandal with organs removed from dead children and used for research without parents' consent in those times all the way up to the 80s. It is thought that this is what happened to this child's body.
