Swim fast and free, to be the man you really want to be
While there are a lot of fan service elements to the show, and the animation can at times feel a bit off from what is natural movement of male bodies and proportions, It's very nicely drawn and has a real flair for study of movement in a body of water. The story is what is really brilliant with this series, though, dealing with the forming, storming and norming of a group that has an interest in ...

    Not what I was expecting
Honestly, I had no idea how this anime would turn out and I thought (like probably most people) that it would be a moe blob anime like K-On! However, that really isn't the case. While K-On tried to be a music anime, with only a couple of songs to really call it that, Free! is for sure a sports anime. Sure, there is fanservice, but who didn't expect that.

    Characters:
    The characters are ...

SO MANY FEELS!! Diggin' this swimming shit, never thought I would like it. Never judge an anime by it's pic-cover and theme.

    swimming anime say yes
While many liked it for the fan service. i liked the fact that it was a coming of age anime about what you do with your life. high school where people start to ask or answer the question and it nice that there a anime that does that. while there are other ones see my reviews on some other ones on the site. i think it tells a different story because it from the perspective of sports. your never as ...

    Making, Building, and Mending Friendships
One of my acquaintances refers to this show as Swimbros, and that is a great summary of what it is. Granted, Free! is a show about swimming, and swimming figures into the plot at almost every angle, but it is fundamentally about a group of guys and the friendships that they share as they come together as a team. Yes, this is trotting out the old nakama trope that plagues anime ...

    A pick-me-up sort of show!
This is such a great show! I enjoyed every second of it. I really love the story that they put forth - the ideas were great! When it wasn't making me smile, it was making me laugh, which is really nice. I highly recommend it!

I wasn't supposed to get so emotionally invested in an anime about swimming!
I'm not going to lie: the reason I started watching Free! was because of the cute swimmer boys. I wanted a light-hearted anime with attractive characters that was fun to watch. I got that, but I also got so much more. Beneath the light-hearted atmosphere and obvious fanservice muscle shots, Free! is a show with a lot of heart. Throughout the first season of this show, I found myself very ...

    A bold move paid off
Basically what I think it that this could have been a disaster, but it worked out in the end.
I still think the emotional parts would have worked better with female characters, but you couldn't really pull off the swimming as well I think without it being almost all and all out fan service, which I understand this still rather was from a female perspective, but it wold have been worse if done ...

Manliest show of all time *sarcasm
Before I get on with this review I have to say 1- I'm a straight guy and 2- this is my current favorite anime of 2013 season (though I am a Kyoto animation lover so I might be a little biased. Just a little. Just a little little.)

The anime starts of with main character Haruka Nanase lamenting on how good he is at swimming and wanting to be "normal". He then makes a swimming club to curb his ...

    A Good Series.. No doubt.
I dislike how many people view this anime as 'gay' or 'only for females'. Sure, there is obviously female-orientated fan service for this show, however lets face it- this show is doing what the a large portion of the others shows have been doing-providing fan service to the male population, albeit for the female viewers this time.

It blends the theme friendship with the sport of swimming, and ...
