  • Great potential, but bland characters and episode count held it back
There were some interesting ideas in this series, but it failed to deliver overall. I would consider it above average, but not a classic.

I enjoyed the early culture shock and language barrier stuff. They could’ve done way more with this. It may have been a better series if it had more episodes. The show does succeed in that I would like to see more of this world.

    The characters all felt ...

  • Not what I excpected
This was an amazing anime, it made me genuinely happy to watch, it's bright and warm, and with a story dark and compelling. Really not what I excpected it to be at all. Lots of action, comedy, character development, beautiful romance. Just a brilliant anime overall.

  • Thrilling and Shocking, a Must Watch Anime
Gargantia on the Verdurous Plant (Suisei no Gargantia) is a short anime with only 13 episodes. Despite the length, the anime packs in moderate character development and shocking plot twists.
It is based on a futuristic, utopian, war-ridden space colony and an antiquated dystopian Earth civilization. The Earth civilization prospered from what was left behind when most of the humans evacuated the ...

    Original and engaging
I found it difficult to not watch this entire series in one sitting, and I consider myself somewhat picky about anime.

    The bad:
    - The series prematurely ended with a 'mop up', but not the worst I've seen.
    - Character development is a bit lacking, but to be expected in a short series.
    - Some fan service, the girls are a bit too well-endowed and skimpily-clad.

    The good:
    - Very original ...

  • Feels and all sorts of Gloriousness.
Wow. I can't even begin to describe the overall emotional toll this anime has taken on me. It climbed through to the absolute tip-top of my favorite animes and I can't get enough. Has a tad bit of Steampunk elements which was a nice touch. You've seen the reviews. Watch it. Trust me. An absolute stranger.

    master uroboichi does it again
An amazing and original story that suffers from pacing, simply put a 12 episode series does nto have the luxury of spending 4 of them on slice of life plot, specially when we are sitting on an atomic bob of PLOT UROBOICHI'S® thats enough to make it a 4 star series instead of a 6 star series because the animation, story, art, etc is just amazing.

It surprised me. Which in itself is surprising.
When I first saw all the pictures shouting this anime's release I was expecting what you usually see when a mecha is involved. What I saw was nothing like what I imagined and would entertain all kinds of people, not just mecha watchers. It was a great spin on a post-apocalyptic world and the struggles that it causes as well as some fun culture shock. The animation was very good as well as the ...

    Great series for 13 ep.
I really liked this series for the amount of episodes it was. It was really nice to watch such a great story of The Gargantia, Ledo and Chamber, and a bit of the Gargantians themselves, unfold. I also really liked the animation in this one! had great picture quality almost all the way through.

  • Awesome post-apocalyptic anime!
One of the better futuristic post-apocalypse animes I've seen in awhile. The animation is great, they do use some 3D models but it's all integrated very well with the standard animation. The story is done very well too, no gaping plot holes and things are revealed at the right moments. Very enjoyable I highly recommend it. (Man all this just to give it 5 stars... makes me wish it was more like ...

  • An Old and New Twist
If you like mecha show's, then this is a must watch. How does Gargantia of the Verdurous Planet have a new and old twist? The show has a slow beginning, but it's necessary to watch in order for the rest of the anime to come together. If you skip it, you will be sorry towards the end of the show, since the main character, Ledo, frequently has flashbacks about his former world. The show definitely ...
