One amazing series!! Great story line, no fillers. The whole series is full of your daily doses of drama, action and a little comedy..
This anime brought back memories of series like Mazinger Z. A must watch!!
So watching this was new for me. But this is one of those shows where things progress slowly at the beginning and then things pick up later. SOOO if you arent patient I wouldnt recommend this. But if you are still planning to watch it, its pretty good. I will make you think about things in life...
This is my first real foray into anime. I was just hoping for something mildly entertaining, but this series very much exceeded my expectation. Clever story, interesting characters, great animation, and very well produced.
First off, I would like to say I have been in a bit of an anime funk. watching the first couple of this and that and not being drawn in... But Gargantia was just what I needed. Not too focused on a love story, Not crazy into military protocol. Overall amazing visuals and straight up enthralling. Have fun watching Gargantia, I did ;]

But mankind faces extinction for they are constantly fending off alien life forms called The Hideauze. And so we meet our main character a 16 year old soldier named Ledo, trained from birth by the Galactic Alliance to fight against the Hideauze with his trusty AI-automated, humanoid battle ship, Chamber. Now I know wat ur thinking. Why a three star, this show looks bloody amazing and its an anime in space, so why!?
Well I must agree with the amazing animation that Gargantia has, but you would think that this anime would be set in space, right? SRCEW THAT!! This is the story of how Ledo and Chamber are knocked into a wormhole during a tactical retreat and find themselves stuck on the planet Earth, where humans are not as advanced as our friend Ledo and have been living on massive ships to survive on this ocean covered planet where about 75% of the population hasn't reached the legal age and wear less clothes than my cats. Well sh.....!!
When I was watching this anime I was patiently waiting for some epic action space battles like in the first episode, but as the show dragged on I was becoming less and less hopeful. Gargantia has a good start for an anime but it never picked up until the very end and even that last episode was not as good as the first. There was a few battle scenes but with Ledo there I would rather call it a one sided massacre. If your expecting this anime to be over the top action packed than your looking in the wrong place dude.
Gargantia develops more on Ledo and how he works to understand the strange customs of Earth. This helps set in funny moments as Ledo and Chamber interacts with the crew members and causes tension between them. Because of this he starts questioning his own morals and even his purpose. Though unfortunately the same can't be said for the other characters and are mainly there to fill in the typical anime stereotypes. You got ur unreasonably joyful main female character, Amy, the stuck up engineer with an ego, Pinion, the big boobed strong and independent, Bellows, and so on.
Gargantia was fun to watch, but got really boring at certain points. The ending was the main build up and was executed perfectly, but it fails to develop many of the characters and leaves you with more questions than answers. If Gargantia were to get a second season then my rating might go higher but I'm betting the Production I.G burned so much of their money developing this anime that a sequel is unlikely. Overall Gargantia was O.K and is worth watching tell the end. Thanx for reading hope you found this useful, continue watching
Loved this series... it was unique, fresh and well drawn. Characters were decently developed, for 13 episodes. I've seen full arcs of bleach not offer as much! (and I freaking love bleach). Not sure they could get away with another season... but wouldn't mind them trying!
Seriously awesome series. Fantastic story. Character development was perfect. I loved everything about it. It could so easily have focused more on the flashy battle scenes but instead focused on the characters and a great story about humanity. I was thoroughly impressed. I want more
The show started out really promising with Ledo being a trained mecha-wielding military man who has no other ambition in life than to fight space aliens who threaten humanity. He falls to an Earth that he thought was devoid of life only to find that humans live in tankers on the ocean. Cool. He can't get back to space and must learn how to live like these people do. Awesome. There was no character development anywhere. The character DESIGNS were flawless. I haven't seen such unique designs in a long time. Everyone was really appealing.
Getting down to the nitty gritty - the animation quality started off great but then got incredibly rushed by the end. It wasn't even fun to watch. The same happened with the story. If you've watched anime for the past 5-7 years, there's nothing in this plot that will surprise you. Except for...

the fact that the mecha was surprisingly sentient. The Yunboro became his own character in the last few moments of the show which was really nice. He was a surprise character that you didn't know you had.
The girls surprisingly were wallflowers throughout the whole show but to be honest, the anime itself didn't go very far.
Overall, it was a very disappointing anime with strong visual appeal.

In the distant future, a planet covered almost entirely by oceans, known as Earth, grows in space. Ledo, a boy who has known nothing but fighting all his life, saw the sea there for the first time.
