Big step down towards average (picks up in the end)
I'm a big fan of the original Genshiken, a realistic and funny anime about an Otaku circle in a Japanese university. Every character seemed fleshed out and relatively realistic, and the introduction of the very not-otaku Kasukabe created a lot of tension, especially between her and uber-otaku Madarame. It was generally slow-paced and reflective on otaku subculture.

But now most of the ...

    Genshiken 3rd Season, 2nd Generation
This anime is quite a piece of work. For those who are curious, this anime is the 3rd season of the original series. The first and second season is rather old which you can tell simply from the art. Before going into this series, I advice all new viewers and old viewers to watch/re-watch the first and second season to know/refresh about the background of the series. If you are a hardcore or a ...

Appearances by original cast, but mostly new characters
I saw Genshiken 1 (and can't speak to Genshiken 2 or the OVAs). While it was interesting, I think I'm going to enjoy this more. This is the girly version. The first season started with a bunch of guys huddled in a tiny room, playing games and drawing up hentai doujins. Now it's a bunch of girls huddled in a tiny room, assisting the resident mangaka and drawing up yaoi doujins. I admit it ...

Sister Fujoshi. Sister Fujoshi Everywhere. (And then Hato)
Well, I enjoyed this after only watching half of the original Genshiken. I think I'd like it even if it was new to me. Sure, I might be confused at some parts but I loved it.

Anime creators are taking notice of us, my sister rotten girls! Have you noticed the rise of fujoshi characters in anime? We're being noticed! YAY! Gotta love Hato's yaoi though...

So I thought that Hato and ...

Near and Dear to my Heart~ <3
The Genshiken series has always been one of my top 5 favorite Anime/Manga series, and I can't express my immense joy when they announced this series after years of nothing. I think the new characters are lively and vibrant which helps this series along wonderfully since it takes place mostly in the same location, a small room. I loved and adored the interaction between the old characters and the ...

    Great Series, Want More!
Really enjoyed this series, and have to admit to being depressed something so challenging to my shounen otaku sensibilities was over so quickly. If you like slice of life anime with a dose of cringe comedy and floating sexual identity (both figurative and literal!) you can't go wrong with this season of Genshiken.

A fun romp through BL culture and a great addition to the franchise
Second Season / Generation is my first outing in the Genshiken universe and I have to say I very much enjoyed it. There are many anime that have touched on the subject of the otakuness from the male perspective. Second Generation is a refreshing look from the other side done in a funny, touching, and respectful manner. The characters are fun to watch and each moves forward in the series in their ...

    Still awesome into season 3
I loved Seasons 1 and 2, loved the manga, and I was an absolute Kuji-un nerd for both the real show and the show-within-a-show. Season 3 is fun in so many ways that it's unfair to give it only 4 stars when it's so enjoyable, but it falls short in one key area: there's no protagonist.

The show's always been ensemble-cast, but Sasahara was clearly the "normal" character we were supposed to live ...

    Genshiken Awesomeness
Growing up with this anime in my mid teenage years ten years ago, I find it very interesting to finally see a sequel to the original "Genshiken" anime's and that they're capable of keeping the same quality and awesomeness from the old ones.

    Thumps up!
    10/10.

  • Many differences, still the same spirit
I have been a fan of the original Genshiken for years. So much so that I had a copy with me while I spent a year in Afghanistan. When I found out there was more to the story I had to watch. At first I had no idea if I was going to like it or not. But, as the series progresses I was happy to find that the faces may have changed it was still the same spirit I enjoyed from before.

    If you were a ...
