Death Note (デスノート, Desu Nōto) is a Japanese manga series created by writer Tsugumi Ohba and illustrator Takeshi Obata. The series centers around a high school student who discovers a supernatural notebook that allows him to kill anyone by writing the victim's name and picturing his or her face. The plot follows his attempt to create and lead a world cleansed of evil using the book, and the complex conflict between himself and those assailing him that results.


Death Note Rules:


Before releasing his Death Note in the human world, Ryuk wrote the basic rules on the Note's first page. The rules were written in English because he was convinced this was the most popular human language. The basic rules are as follows:
The human whose name is written in this note shall die.

This note will not take effect unless the writer has the subject's face in their mind when writing his/her name. Therefore, people sharing the same name will not be affected.

If the cause of death is written within 40 seconds of writing the subject's name, it will happen

If the cause of death is not specified, the subject will simply die of a heart attack

After writing the cause of death, the details of the death should be written in the next 6 minutes and 40 seconds (400 seconds).

L, who also uses the aliases Hideki Ryuga (流河 旱樹, Ryūga Hideki?), Ryuzaki (竜崎, Ryūzaki?), Eraldo Coil (エラルド＝コイル, Erarudo-Koiru?), and Deneuve (ドヌーヴ, Donūvu?), the latter two for which he has developed reputations as the second- and third-best detectives in the world, is quite secretive and only communicates with the world through his assistant Watari. Near
Near (ニア, Nia?), whose real name is Nate River (ネイト・リバー, Neito Ribā?), is the younger of L's two successors raised in Watari's orphanage for gifted children and the more level-headed, calmly assessing the situation, while the other, Mello, is more emotional and quick to act. Much like L, Near shows various odd behaviors during his normal life. He is usually seen hunched over than sitting, and he also constantly plays with various toys which he uses in his theories. He shows a great respect for L, basing much of how he solves crime on L's methods, even to the point where he only takes cases that he is interested with rather than trying to pursue justice. Much like L, Near uses the Old English "N" to represent himself.

Mello
Mello (メロ, Mero?), whose real name is Mihael Keehl (ミハエル・ケール, Mihaeru Kēru?), is the older of L's two successors raised in Watari's orphanage for gifted children. When it is decided that Mello should work with the other successor, Near, Mello refuses, citing an inability to work with Near, to whom he is considered second. Similar to L's fondness for sweets, Mello is often seen eating bars of chocolate. Unlike L or Near, however, Mello is much more outgoing and emotional, to a fault at some points. He is quite intelligent and resourceful, able to set up elaborate plans thanks to his Mafia connections.
