YUI~san
YUI is a Japanese pop artist, born March 26, 1987. She was born and raised in Fukuoka, Japan. She sings and plays acoustic guitar, and writes her own songs. She is still relatively unknown outside of Japan, but her song "LIFE", from her single by the same name, was the 5th ending theme for Bleach, a popular Japanese anime series, which has brought her some international fame.
YUI has acted in a movie released in June of 2006 called "Taiyou no Uta" (The Sun's Song), in which she played a young aspiring singer with a disease called XP. YUI's song, "Good-bye Days" was the theme song for Taiyou no Uta, and is by far her highest-selling single. The movie was screened at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival, and has since been released in various Asian countries.
W-inds
Pronounced in Japanese as "Uinzu," they have performed in shows such as the annual Kōhaku Uta Gassen, a Japanese program inviting only the top-selling artists of the year. Their first hit was Forever Memories.
WaTs
WaT (Wentz and Teppei) is a Japanese pop duo, composed of singers/songwriters Eiji Wentz and Teppei Koike. They met each other in 2002 and formed WaT, playing street lives with their guitars. Their debut single Boku no Kimochi came out in 2005. Wentz, who is half German-American and half Japanese, is also known as an entertainer and comedian.
Asian Kung Fu Generation
The band was first formed in 1996 by Kensuke Kita, Takahiro Yamada, and Masafumi Gotō who met in a musical circle of Kanto Gakuin University, with Kiyoshi Ijichi joining the band shortly after. They played in many small venues until they released their first indie EP in 2000, a six-song EP of songs sung in English. In the following year, the band tried to get their first Japanese single, "Kona Yuki", onto indie radio shows. The song was eventually picked up by a popular radio DJ and put into heavy rotation due to the demand of listeners.
Uverworld
UVERworld is a Japanese rock band known for their mixture of musical genres such as hard rock, electronic, and beat-boxing. UVERchan, the band's mascot, is a fictional bear-bat like character, which appears on several of their covers.
Akeboshi
Yoshio Akeboshi, more commonly known as Akeboshi, is a Japanese pop and folk singer. He is mainly known for the song "Wind" , which was used as the ending theme to the anime Naruto for the first twenty-five episodes.
Akeboshi was born on July 1, 1978 in Yokohama. He learned to play the piano when he was thirteen years old, later learning to play the guitar. He studied music in Liverpool, and his time there has heavily influenced his music. Before his major debut, he produced two of the songs on Matsu Takako's fourth album, a piece of life.
Akeboshi's songs are mainly sung in Japanese, but there are some notable songs that are sung in English, such as "Night and day", "Money", and "Wind". Another thing of note about Akeboshi's music is that he rarely uses the basic 4/4 time signature. "Wind" and "Kamisama no Shitauchi" for example, are both written in 5/4.
Cheico Kawabe
Chieko Kawabe is a female J-pop singer, model, radio host and actress. She was born on February 24, 1987 in Tokyo. She is a graduate of Toshima, Tokyo. Starting at the age of twelve, Kawabe played the role of Ami Mizuno/Sailor Mercury in the Sailor Moon Musicals, or Sera Myu. She started in 2000, in the Fan Kansha event for the 2001 musical, Transylvania no Mori, Kaiteiban. She continued for a couple more years, appearing in five musicals total, finishing with the 2002 special musical, 10th Anniversary Special. During these musicals, she appeared in some of the more special musicals, including the Death Vulcan special revue show, the second half of the musical being an entire musical revue showing, and the first Sera Myu DVD, the 2002 10th Anniversary event.
