Summary
Based on true events.

Four siblings live happily with their mother in a small apartment in Tokyo.

In fact, the children all have different fathers and have never been to school. The very existence of three of them has been hidden from the landlord. One day, the mother leaves behind a little money and a note, charging her oldest boy to look after the others.

And so begins the children's odyssey, a journey nobody knows.

i watched this movie 2 years ago..And all i can say is... Briliant. Its simplicity and realism draws a person into the movie itself. While watching i actually felt the sadness the children in this movie were portraying.

I believe this movie looks into how much bleak the future for children are in these times and days. and when the mom gives up because she is troubled somewhat the results nobody knows. Then again I could be over exagerating the meaning.

Oh god. The tears, they won't stop coming. I actually watched this movie on TV today. I had to see if it was here, and now that I see it again-- Oh jeez. Amazing movie; Sad story. What a horrible mother. :'(

I have a CD of this movie w/c I bought & watched about 2 years ago in Taiwan, aside from its very heart breaking theme, I wasn't able to fully understand it until I've watched it about 3x 'cause the ones I bought doesn't have a subtitle.
