Crystal Liu Yi Fei Biography
Liu Yifei ( 刘亦菲) is a Chinese actress and singer who was born on 25th of August , 1987 at Tongji hospital in Wuhan, China.
Yifei's father works as a university professor while her mother was a dancer and a stage performer. After her parents separated, Yifei lived with her mother, Liu Xiao Li (刘晓莉) . Yifei was ten when her parents divorced.
Af the very young age of eight, Yifei was groomed by her mother in dancing, singing, and piano. On her ninth birthday, Yifei received a crystal from her mom as a birthday present. She loved it so much that she decided to call herself "Crystal." Since then, Yifei has been collecting Swarovski crystal as a hobby.
When Yifei was eleven, she moved to New York City with her mom. She lived in the United States of America for four years. In June 2002, Yifei returns to China to pursue an acting caree, She adopted her stage name Yifei. In September 2002, over 100,000 who applied for entrance to Beijing Film Academy, Yifei was one of the 500 who was accepted. At the age of fourteen and a half, she was the youngest student the school has ever had . She graduated from the Performance Institute of Beijing Film Academy in July 2006. Other famous graduates from the Institute are famous actress Zhao Wei (class 2000) and popular actor Huang Xiaoming (class 2000) who later became Yifei's co-star in "The Return of the Condor Heroes."
Immediately after her admittance into Beijing Film Academy, Yifei received offers to star in various television drama serials. Her first role on television was in “Jin Fen Shi Jia” (金粉世家) i.e. "The Story of a Noble Family." Shortly after, she was chosen to portray the role of "Wang Yuyan" in Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils ((Tian Long Ba Bu - 天龙八部), a drama based on the book by the acclaimed wuxia writer, Louis Cha a.k.a. Jinyong . It was this role that established her fame in China.
In 2003, Liu Yi Fei starred in her first movie “Love of May” ((Wu yue zhi lian - 五月之恋)) but it was through her starring role in the television drama, "Chinese Paladin" in 2004 that made her very famous in China. "Chinese Paladin" was adapted from a very popular role-playing video game "The Legend of Sword and Fairy."
Liu Yi Fei is fast becoming one of the most popular contemporary young artists in China. Sensing the popularity of Yifei and her great potential to be an international star, Sony Music Japan seized the opportunity to sign her up for a recording contract in August 2005 and since then Yifei lived in Japan for half a year to study singing, dancing and Japanese language. She released her first single "Mayonaka no Doa" (真夜中のドア) with Sony Music on July 19, 2006. Yifei's first Mandarin album "Liu Yifei" was released on the 5th of September, 2006. Her Japanese album "All My Words" was released a day after on the 6th of September, 2006.
In 2006, Yifei also starred in another CCTV television production based on a very famous book written by Jinyong, "The Return of the Condor Heroes" (Shen diao xia lu - 神雕侠侣). After intense speculation on who would get the role of "Xiaolongnü", the part was finally offered to Yifei. She was backed by Jinyong, who felt that she had all the necessary qualities to play the role of the young and innocent "Xiaolongnü". "The Return of the Condor Heroes" is a popular hit across Asia, from China to Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia, Philippine, Vietnam, and Singapore. Yifei won the most popular female Chinese Idol in 2006.
Recently, she co-starred with Jackie Chan and Jet Li in The Forbidden Kingdom, a martial art adventure movie.
