Synopsis

Yui Aragaki (新垣結衣, Aragaki Yui?, born June 11, 1988) is a Ryukyuan model, actress, seiyū and occasional radio show host. She is a well-loved Japanese idol.Born in Naha, Okinawa, she is popularly known as Gakky (ガッキー Gakkī), a nickname given by Ayako Enomoto in 2001. Because of her fashion sense and logical personality, she gained a large fanbase in and out of Japan. Her beauty is well-regarded in her home country, being considered as one of the local celebrities who possess beautiful faces. Along with U-20 idol Maki Horikita, she is regarded as one of the most prominent actresses in Japan who are below twenty years of age.
Personality
Aragaki was very shy as a child. Until now she is shy around strangers, which is uncommon for most celebrities who appear on-screen as outgoing personalities. She and then-popular U-15 idol Ishida Miku belonged to the same agency. They even lived in the same dormitory while debuting in Tokyo.
Career
After seeing an audition notice for the junior fashion magazine nicola, Aragaki applied for and won the Grand Prix award for the audition. After that, she became a model for the said magazine or popularly called as a nicomo. In 2004 she put her modeling in nicola on hold to expand her current modeling career into gravure, appearing on variety shows, and acting. Came 2005, she officially graduated from the magazine. The same year, she was in the TBS drama Dragon Zakura. This began her entrance into the acting world and she has gone on to appear in other shows since. Even though she has graduated from nicola, she still appears in the magazine occasionally. Currently, Aragaki holds the record for most covers of nicola at 15 covers. She constantly appears in TV commercials, her Pocky commercials being the most popular ones. Just recently, Aragaki made her singing debut. The ballad called Memories , the theme song for her first lead role movie, Koisuru Madori, marked the beginning of her career as a singer. She will also release a song called "Heavenly Days" for the movie "Koizora". It is confirmed that Aragaki will be releasing an album on December 5th, 2007 and will perform a debut performance in Budoukan. If this event pushes through, she would be the third song artist to debut in the said location. Aragaki's situation where an album is to be released before a single is very rare to female idols like her. Besides modeling, acting and singing, Aragaki occasionally hosts a segment in the radio show, SCHOOL OF LOCKS!. GIRLS LOCKS!, the segment where certain young female idols switch slots in hosting, is also hosted by the likes of Maki Horikita, Nana Eikura and Erika Toda. She debuted as a singer after releasing her debut album "Sora" on December 5, 2007. The album features two songs, "Memories" and "heavenly days", which she sang as theme songs for the movie Koizora. She had her first live concert taken place at Nippon Budoukan on December 22, 2007. She did not participate in singing at the 58th Annual Kōhaku Uta Gassen, but she attended as a guest judge along with actress Aoi Miyazaki and 9 people who took an active part in 2007.On February 12, 2008, she was awarded the New Actor Award of the 50th Blue Ribbon Awards. She has already been awarded with 4 different new actor awards for starring in three movies in 2007 (Koisuru Madori, Waru Boro, and Koizora). On March 3, 2008, she was awarded the Golden Arrow Award. This award became her 6th award from starring in three movies in 2007.

AY - Good evening. My name is Aragaki Yui. I played the character "Tahara Mika". Lets have fun talking tonight. (audience: Kawaii~)

MH - Nice to meet you. My name is Miura Haruma. (the audience) is so close! I didn't think we would be so close. I'm getting nervous. Yoroshiku onegaishimasu (its more of a greeting when you do something together with someone. Sorry, I don't really know how to say it in english)

IN - My name is Imai, and I am the director of this movie. Yoroshiku onegaishimasu.

MC - Right now, we have female high shcool students here with us that are the same age as our main character Mika. 16,000,000 people have shead tears about this realistic love story "Koizora" and we are going to ask everyone here different questions regarding love.

1. Right now, Do you have a boyfriend? Yes/18 people. (This is always out of a 100)

IN - So few!

AY - So few!

MH - Is everyone okay? It's almost Christmas. (audience laughs)

2. Did you have a boyfriend when you entered highschool? (Highschool in Japan starts at 10th grade for people here in the US) Yes/49 people.

MC - That's about half. Aragaki-san's high school years, what was your surroundings like?

AY - It was a girls highschool (Laugh). When club was over, there were more and more girls who got part time jobs and boyfriends.

MC - How about Miura-san?

MH - My school was coed but it was a rule that you couldn't have relationships. There were people that were going out but they didn't say anything. So you didn't hear anything about people going out and if you did there were so few.

MC - Those are pretty complicated circumstances for highschools. How about the director? (it's like a title in Japan. Imai Director)

IN - I think about half were going out with someone. This was a long time ago (laugh). I myself was going out with someone from my second year in high school.

MC - Was it a beautiful love like "Koizora"?

IN - Yes, yes. We rode a bicycle together (laugh).

3. On a date, Would you like the other person to figure out where you are going? Yes/89 people.

MC - Looks like everyone likes to be led.

AY - I want to be led too. But I would also like to just go somewhere without even thinking of a place.

MC - A man that cant think of anything and says "You figure out where" isnt appealing is it?

AY - That is true. Becaus i'm like that (laugh)

MC - Miura-san, are you the type that figures out what to do?

MH - Yes. I can think of many things...If I were on a date with a girl i was going out with, I would want to play a sport she is good at.

MC - You want to sweat together? You like to be active I see.

MH - It's not like i want to work up a sweat (laugh)

MC - Is that so (laugh) How about the director.

IN - Yeah, I would like to be led. Although as a director I have to lead, my private life I would like to be led.

4. Even though you have a boyfriend, do you find other men interesting also? Yes/43 people

MC - We have a large number of people here. Director, what do you think?

IN - Well, I think they are a truthful group (laugh)

AY - It's not like I don't understand this feeling. There is that feeling. If I said that I never had that feeling it would be a lie.

MH - But with men there is also something like that. That's equality between men and women (laugh)

5. Is there someone you have choosen to marry? Yes/7 people

Everyone - Oooo!! (along with the audience)

MH - This is "I want to get married" right? (Instead of being engaged already)

AY - That's amazing.

MC - What's Aragaki-san's ideal marrige?

AY - If I can, before I turn 30.

IN - First you brought up timing huh.

AY - Yes. I want a type of marrige where we can do what each other wants, but our feelings don't move apart. Even if I get married, I won't quit working....I think. I want to do the things I want to do.

MC - How about Miura-san?

MH - I've never thought about it. But I understand the feeling of wanting to get married before 30. I also would like to get married before 30.

AY - When I was in my 2nd year of highschool I thought I would get married between 20 - 23. But with 20 before my eyes, I think "Ah, it's impossible" (laugh) So I adjusted my time limit. As long as I have a child before it's a problem to my body... (laugh)

MH - I don't really want to get married. (I don't think he mean ever)

IN - I also thought before 30. But now, my work is my love. But I do want to get married while I can still have a child, yes (laugh). This isn't really what I should be discussing with highschoolers (laugh).

6. Do you practice kissing secretly? Yes/1 person

Everyone - Eee~! (like "what~?")(from the audience too)

AY - Ama~zing!

MH - Who is it? (audience laughs)

AY - Must be the pillow is your partner? (audience laughs)

MC - What do you think director?

IN - Why are you asking me?....(laugh) By the way, I have never practiced kissing.

MC - Aragaki-san, do you talk to friends about things like this?

AY - We don't really talk about things like this. For example, "right now I like someone but I wonder how they feel..." Something like that I hear alot. But "What did you do last night?"....

MH - The way I kiss, things like that, I don't really discuss. (laugh)

7. Hiro (the character MH plays) and Yu (The guy Mika goes out with after she breaks up with Hiro). Is Hiro your type? Yes/44 people.

IN - Aww. He's losing, he's losing. The real person is here too. (laugh)

AY - That was close.

Audience 1 - His forcefulness is appealing.

Audience 2 - He's good looking, and he puts himself aside and looks after Mika.

MC - What do you think Miura-san?

MH - Well, asking what I think? (IN and AY laugh) But, saying it like that i'm happy.

IN - Miura, right now are you shocked?

MH - No, nothing like that.

IN - really?

MH - Really, really. When I first read the book, I thought to myself that Yu is cooler than Hiro. Really. But when I played him, I wanted to root for Hiro. Hiro is cool too.

IN - As for me, right now I am shocked. I thought I wrote Hiro and Mika's love very strongly.

AY - I thought leaning either way wasn't really suprising.

MH - At first, I thought Yu is a more depending guy and I thought that was cool. When playing Hiro, I thought Hiro was more empathetic... I can't figure out which is better.

AY - I like both of them. Both of their feeling were strong and direct. I think if you have that, that's enough and I you cant choose. While acting, I actually couldn't recognize the extent of the differences. If you had either of their elements it would be best.

IN - I would be the best.

8. Everyday, do you spend more than 2 hours sending mails / talking over your cell phones? Yes/51 people.

IN - I am suprised. Everyone can't let go of their cellphones huh.

AY - If you add me it will be 52. Everyday 2 hrs. As for me, instead of mails I talk on the phone more.

IN - Only a few huh? I guess everyone doesn't like to show off.

MC - Aragaki-san, do you write a blog or a story?

AY - I don't write storys but blogs I write when something happens in my life. I wrote a diary while filming "Koizora".

11. After watching "Koizora" do you feel like you want to become a Movie director? Yes/19 people

AY - Even when going out with someone, you become interested in someone else.

AY - When wearing a school uniform I did.

AY - It was plain (laugh)

AY - I've stood by when friends asked someone out. I still recieve talks from that friend. Recently my friends have begun college so I hear about school. I don't go to college so I wonder how my campus life would be like.

What did you think about today?

AY - I thought it was cute that someone practices kissing.

Today, Aragaki-san's song "heavenly days" was play. How did you feel?

AY - As for music, I still have much to learn. But when I heard my song I was suprised. I'm still not used to it. I'm a little embaressed. (laugh)

AY - I learned that it's important to convey your feelings from this movie. I want the people who watch this movie to be nice to the important people in their life. It's a really warm movie.

Synopsis
