Hybrid Theory is the debut album by the American nu metal band Linkin Park. Released on October 24, 2000 through Warner Bros. Records, the album was a commercial success, peaking at #2 in the U.S. Billboard 200, as well as reaching high positions in charts worldwide, despite receiving mixed reviews from publications.

Hybrid Theory was recorded at NRG Recordings in North Hollywood, California and was produced by Don Gilmore. Four singles were released from the album: “One Step Closer”, the Grammy Award-winning “Crawling”, “Papercut” and “In The End”. The lyrical themes of the album mostly dealt with various problems that lead singer Chester Bennington experienced during his adolescence, including drug abuse and the constant fighting and initial divorce of his parents.

The singles “One Step Closer”, “Crawling” and “In the End” were responsible for bringing Linkin Park into mainstream popularity. Hybrid Theory continued to sell well during the following years and has since been certified diamond by the RIAA, selling 24 million copies worldwide to date; making it the best-selling debut album of the 21st century. It earned a nomination for Best Rock Album at the 44th Grammy Awards.
