The Manga


After graduating from a magic academy, 10-year-old genius boy Negi Springfield was assigned to a huge Japanese school as an English teacher for practical training. To his surprise, the 8th grade class assigned for him is all-girl. In addition to teaching (and being teased by) those 31 pretty girls while trying to keep his magic capability in secret, he's also looking for clues about his father, who was once known as "Thousands Master" but mysteriously disappeared years ago. There were originally two 7 minute shorts, showing the the class. These were animated by Xebec, who later animated the first series

Series 1(Xebec)


Following roughly the first 6 and a bit volumes of the manga, the 2005 anime series and its catchy OP "Happy Material" was a huge hit. The story also featured new plots and altered manga scenes (like Episode 17 for Nodoka's date) and the last 4 episodes are anime originals.

Series 2 (Shaft and Gansis)



Taking an alternative plot with the same characters, this Negima has mixed reviews. Starting off the same as other Negima's, Negi soon has to face new enemies, and the one who has stolen the legnedary powerful magic item, the Star Crystal. Gaining more partners than Series 1 and a bizzare and original plot makes this a hit in my book.
Note: The Fansubbers cancelled this series after episode 20. Either watch it raw or wait for the licensed FUNimation DVD's out sometime in 2008. Both seasons are now licensed.

Negima!? OVA Natsu and Haru


There are also 2 OVA's in addition to the second series. OVA Haru (the spring OVA) takes place on an island that the class goes to for spring break. Negi tries making up with Asuna after a fight they had due to Negi saying Asuna has nothing to do with his studies as a wizard. This OVA is based off a manga chapter. The other OVA, is Natsu (the summer OVA). This takes place in a bath house, where Nodoka accidently casts a red string to Negi, making them together for the day. Both OVA's contain very much fan service

Mahou Sensei Negima! Shiroki Tsubasa ~Ala Alba~


A set of OVA's that closely follow the manga. Their are three in total, each being released with a volume of the manga. The first one, which covered chapters 176 and 177, which was released August 12 with volume 23 of the manga. The second OVA, due out November 17, 2008, will cover chapters 178-180 and will come with volume 24 of the manga. The third installment will come out February 17, 2009, and will cover chapters 182 and 183, will come with volume 25 of the manga. From the Negi no Ochakai event that was held in May 2008, Ken Akamatsu mentions that if preorders for the first of the OVAs exceeds 50,000, the staff would consider a film adaptation and 100,000 for a third animated series.

Mahōu Sensei Negima! Mō Hitotsu no Sekai ~Another World~


A fourth set of OVAs was announced in the Mahōu Sensei Negima: Ala Alba event held on February 11, 2009. The series is officially titled Magical Teacher Negima! ~Another World~.This OVAs series, covering the Journey to Magic World arc, will be bundled with the manga starting with volume 27 in Summer, 2009. Just like the previous OVA adaption, this series will again be produced by Shaft in cooperation with Studio Pastoral. A theatrical film adaptation is planned to be made if sales are good.

Negima Neo


Negima Neo is a manga series based off of the second anime.

The Live Action Series


The Live-action drama is somewhat similar to the manga, but does not throughtly adapt it.
