Ever wonder how some Asian celebrities get that wide eyed look, full of dazzling shine with their pupils so huge they look positively like a doe? More often than not, this look will be down to circle lenses.
Circle lenses are cosmetic contact lenses that have a black ring meant to enlare the appearance of the iris, giving your eyes an enlarging and brightening effect. Originally from Korea, these lenses were made popular by ulzzangs (”best-face” celebrities) and pop stars. They give the appearance of clear, doll-like eyes and are available primarily to the Asian market. They are extremely popular all over Asia and are starting to gain quite a big following in the US too. :]
Circle lenses are sold all over Asia but are nearly impossible to buy in the US as they are illegal (they are not FDA approved) and can only be purchased online where they are priced around $20-40 per pair. .
Along with the rising popularity of circle lenses, issues concerning the quality of these lenses have risen as well. Currently, there are still companies selling circle contact lenses without bearing the stamp of approval from health services but as a general rule of thumb the following brands are well known and are safe: GEO, Dueba, Bescon, and Neo.
