Ion Tsuburagi is a simple but cheery girl that decided to devote herself to a man that is serious to make their own dreams come true. She then found out that Mikado, one of her classmates, is building up a club for psychic investigators. She fell in love with the guy because he is the one she's been longing for. She planned to join the club but she ended up being the club president. Then after that, an experimental object that Mikado made suddenly changes Ion, giving her telekinetic powers.

Kusakabe Maron has lived alone for a long time, since she was young and her parents left to travel abroad for their jobs. Her rent gets paid every month, and she always has money for food or whatever else she needs or wants, but her parents haven't even sent a single letter to her in all the years they've been gone. Even though right across the hall is Maron's best friend, and she always puts on a brave face, Maron always dreads the empty apartment at night and the time of day when she stops and checks her mail box, which never has anything in it.

Then she meets Finn Fish, the tiny angel-in-training which tells her who she really is: Kaitou Jeanne, the reincarnation of Joan of Arc (known in the series as Jeanne d'Arc)! Now, as well as dealling with normal highschool and an empty mailbox, at night Maron must become Kaitou Jeanne, the amazing art thief who uses special divine tools given to her by the will of God to sneak into people's homes and other places to "steal" beautiful objects, normaly paintings, which have been inhabited by demons who control the beautiful souls of the people who love the art. These people become greedy and cruel, and will stop at nothing to save the art. And so Jeanne leaves a note card, designating the time she will arrive to steal the art. The process used to seal the demon, however, also causes the art to disappear, and where paintings were a beautiful angel now fills the empty canvas. However, the athorities cannot allow this to go on, and Maron's best friend, who dreams of becoming a detective and is the daughtor of a police chief, will stop at nothing to capture Jeanne and comes up with a new trap every night. Then the smooth-talking Chiaki moves in to the apartment next door to Maron, at the same time as Kaitou Sinbad appears and begins to seal demons as though he were in competition with Jeanne, and with his sidekick, another angel-in-training named Access Time, he is begining to thwart the police as well as Jeanne. Maron might have bitten off more than she can chew now, because the greatest obstacles still lies ahead: Falling in love with her worst enemy next to the devil himself.

This is a two-part manga that was printed with three other short stories together in one book. The tankoubon itself shares the title of this story, Firecracker is Melancholy.

Story 1) Kanshakudama no Yuutsu: Kajika is a female ninja and her parents were murdered by the rival ninja family Hayato when she was a little girl. Now, she lives with her grandfather. She falls in love with her senpai named Fujisaki. But he thinks that Kajika is too male. And Kajika's childhood friend Yuga has a problem with Fujisaki-senpai! When Fujisaki wants to date Kajika, she discovers something that is really shocking and surprising for her...

Story 2) Kanshakudama no Yuutsu-Kimi ga inakucha (without You): Yuga can't go home with Kajika because he has some meetings with the SMV. He goes to the meetings with Fujisaki-san, the sister of Fujisaki-senpai, who fell in love with Kajika because she gave him freedom and mercy. Kajika is sad because she thinks that Yuga loves Fujiya-san, but she doesn't know why. Yuga challenges Fujisaki-senpai because of Kajika. But Yuga isn't a ninja, that's why he asks Kajika's grandfather for training. But Kajika is getting more sad because she thinks that they want to fight because of Fujiya-san...

Story 3) Kono Koi ha NON Fiction (This Love's Non-fiction): Yuri wants her best friend Karin, a rich girl, to meet her pen friend because she sent him a photo of Karin. For an ordinary dessert (a cheesecake) Karin do that, and she has a date with Ryo in the aquarium, but nothing is like it should be - appearances are deceptive...

Story 4) Ame no Gogo ha Romance no Heroin (Romance Heroine in the Rainy Afternoons): Minori falls in love with Takato-kun, a boy from an other school because one day he gave her his umbrella when it was raining. Since this day, Minori hopes that there is rain all the time because she wants to be with Takato under his umbrella. But in the middle school Takato got a go-by of a girl and there is a rumour that he hates all girls since this day. What will Minori do and WHO was that girl...!?

Story 5: Ni Banme No Koi No Katara (Second Love): This is Tanemura Arinas debut in the year 1995 or 1996. Mana loves the boyfriend of her bestfriend Yume. But the most popular boy at school, Nakamura Shigenobu, loves Mana and he doesn't give up. But Mana doesn't want to fell in love with someone else until she forget Nishikawa.kun, the boyfriend of Yume.
