Welcome to this club and this place before we get started to speaks of this, Welcome to the group and hope you enjoy the stay and please post or post more pictures and its appreciate while I said We shall saluted to you The Boss, as you would have to be a fan of Metal Gear Solid as you see this is what Big Boss, AKA Naked Snake AKA John Doe made to make sure that the Patriots lived on as a legacy in the Philosophers and if you are the fan you will get it what I meant. Including Solid Snake, Grey Fox, Ocelots, and Liquid and especially the boss is awesome of course.
Metal Gear Solid 1 Story
During a training mission on Shadow Moses in February of 2005, at a nuclear weapons facility on a remote island off the coast of Alaska, the Next-Generation Special Forces unit rebelled against the United States government, led by the covert wet works team FOXHOUND, under the command of Liquid Snake. Their target was the advanced weapon system Metal Gear REX, a gigantic robotic weapons platform able to independently launch a nuclear warhead at any target on the face of the planet. They had one demand: the body of the greatest soldier who ever lived, Big Boss. The Next-Generation Special Forces (better known as the GENOME Army), already the subject of advanced gene therapy, could use the genes of Big Boss to make them the ultimate soldiers. The government cannot let this happen. At the request of the Secretary of Defence, Colonel Roy Campbell, the former commander of FOXHOUND, summoned Solid Snake out of retirement and sent him to infiltrate Shadow Moses in one last solo covert operation. Dr. Naomi Hunter, Mei Ling, and Nastasha Romanenko are his support team.
200km north of the country of Galzburg, South Africa, lay the fortress of Outer Heaven, a fortified state that had been founded by a legendary mercenary in the late 1980s. In 1995, the western world had received intelligence that warned of a weapon of mass destruction that was supposedly being constructed deep within the fortress. The government called in the high-tech Special Forces unit FOXHOUND, commanded by the legendary soldier Big Boss, to infiltrate the fortress, and ordered them to send in an agent to assess the situation and neutralize whatever threat the weapon posed to the western world. In a mission known as "Operation: Intrude N312," FOXHOUND operative Gray Fox infiltrated the Outer Heaven stronghold. However, days later, contact with Gray Fox was lost, his final transmission consisted only of two words: "METAL GEAR..."
February 2005. During a routine FOXHOUND training mission at Shadow Moses, a nuclear weapons facility on a remote island off the coast of Alaska, the Next-Generation Special Forces unit rebelled against the United States government, led by members of FOXHOUND, under the command of Liquid Snake. Threatening the White House with a Nuclear Strike, FOXHOUND had one demand: the body of the greatest soldier who ever lived: Big Boss. The Next-Generation Special Forces (also known as the GENOME Army), already the subject of advanced gene therapy, could use the genes of Big Boss to make them the ultimate soldiers. The government cannot let this happen. Requested by the Secretary of Defence, Colonel Roy Campbell, former commander of FOXHOUND, summoned Solid Snake out of retirement and persuaded him to infiltrate Shadow Moses in a solo covert operation. His objectives: Rescue the DARPA Chief Donald Anderson and President of ArmsTech Kenneth Baker and to find out if the terrorists have the ability to launch a nuclear missile and to stop them if they do.
After successfully infiltrating the facility, he was contacted by Campbell and Naomi Hunter who reminded him of his mission objectives, and Mei Ling who explained to him how to use his Soliton Radar and Codec. He was also contacted by his old mentor, Master Miller.
Discovery
Making his way deeper into the base, Snake easily achieved the first half of his first objective. He made his way into the Prison Cells where Donald Anderson, the DARPA Chief, was being held. Anderson informed Snake that the terrorists did indeed have the ability of a Nuclear Launch thanks to Metal Gear REX. Snake was shocked at the presence of Metal Gear and Anderson informed him that the terrorists needed two codes to activate REX: one from himself, which the terrorists already had, and one from Kenneth Baker. Luckily for Snake, there were three PAL keys he could use to deactivate REX. Before Snake could escort the DARPA Chief to safety, the Chief suffered from a heart attack and fell dead. As Snake made his way outside, he ran into Meryl Silverburgh, Campbell's niece. Before they could talk, Meryl ran into the elevator, shooting at Snake.
Snake, using information given to him by Anderson, headed to the basement to find Kenneth Baker. Upon spotting Baker tied to a pillar rigged with C4, Snake feared he had arrived too late before being confronted by Revolver Ocelot, FOXHOUND’s interrogation expert and ricochet genius. The two had a gun showdown, before the intervention of the Cyborg Ninja who cut off Ocelot’s hand, as well as cutting the wires holding Baker. The Cyborg then vanished and Ocelot ran off, carrying his severed hand. Snake helped Baker, who mentions that Meryl should have the PAL Override keys giving Snake a hint to where to find her Codec Frequency. After giving Snake the REX Launch Data, and telling him where to find Dr. Hal Emmerich, Baker dies of a heart attack, eerily similar to the way Anderson died. Snake then contacted Meryl and she, disguised as a GENOME Soldier, opened the door to the other building for him, allowing him to advance and find Dr. Emmerich..
Gray Fox - is the codename of FOXHOUND agent Frank Jaeger
and are formerly known as Null. He was the only active field agent of FOXHOUND to achieve the Fox codename, FOXHOUND's highest commemoration. Fox was Solid Snake's war buddy and best friend after Operation: Intrude N313, but Fox's loyalty to his father figure, Big Boss, forced him to betray Snake during the Zanzibar Land Uprising. He survived his injuries during his battle with Snake and was outfitted with a powered exoskeleton and given intense gene therapy. He confronted Snake as a neutral force in Shadow Moses before dying at the hands of Liquid Snake.
Liquid Snake is Solid Snake's twin brother and genetic duplicate, along with field commander of FOXHOUND and the Genome Soldiers. Along with Solid Snake and Solidus Snake, he is one of three "brothers" genetically engineered from cell samples taken from Big Boss in the Les Enfants Terribles project. Liquid Snake believes himself as being inferior to Solid Snake, as he was told that he was the recipient of all of Big Boss' "flawed" recessive genes. Because of this belief, Liquid holds a strong resentment towards Solid Snake, who supposedly inherited the better genetics, and wishes to defeat him in combat and reclaim his what he felt was his birthright, thus proving his superiority.
Liquid is 180cm tall, has an IQ of 180, and speaks seven languages fluently. He is an exact duplicate of Solid Snake in terms of appearances, with the only distinguishable feature being his darker skin tone and hairstyle (type and color). He also has a tattoo on his left arm, which resembles the Rod of Asclepius, but with a sword in its place. He sounds seemingly younger than Solid Snake as well as having a more British accent as well. In terms of personality, Liquid is shown displaying a more open, arrogant and loud attitude compared to Solid Snake, who is more cool, calm and confident.
Mei Ling was part of Solid Snake's support team during the Shadow Moses incident. Mei-Ling had always wanted to be a pilot after falling in love with jets in the movies. She majored in aerodynamics in college, planning to join the military to perform battle damage assessments (she didn't want to kill people.) Her dreams of being a pilot were crushed after she learned that there weren't any pilots who do just Battle Damage Assessments. Sometime after graduating from MIT, she turned her intellect to the field of technology, where her talents blossomed as she invented the Codec communication system, and the Soliton Radar that both Solid Snake and Raiden used during their missions.
Mei-Ling was very well versed in many forms of literature, frequently quoting everything from Shakespeare to Chinese proverbs. She says that "it helps her keep in touch with both sides of her heritage" as she was born Chinese but raised in America. She purposefully read up on topics outside of her major in college, including that of famous literature around the world as she didn't want to limit herself to field technology, explaining to Snake that she wanted to become a "well-balanced engineer".
After Shadow Moses, Mei Ling helped out Philanthropy, illegally appropriating equipment from the SSCEN, a research and development center for the U.S Military.
Mei Ling later becomes the Commanding Officer of the museum-turned-training vessel USS Missouri and provides Snake and Otacon with backup, courtesy of her connections with the SSCEN. Due to her position on the USS Missouri, she is seen dressed in a Navy uniform. She now holds the rank of captain, evidenced by her collar insignia.
Meryl Silverburgh was born 1987, is the fourth and current commanding officer of unit FOXHOUND. Prior to her inauguration as the fourth commander, Meryl was a well-known career soldier due to her involvement in the Shadow Moses island incident of 2005, her first mission where she worked together with famed mercenary Solid Snake, whom she was romantically involved with briefly after the mission. She was thought to be the niece of former FOXHOUND commander Roy Campbell but was later discovered to actually be his daughter.
According to official records, Meryl Silverburgh is the daughter of Roy Campbell's younger brother, Matt. However, circumstantial evidences suggest the possibility that Meryl was born from an affair between Roy Campbell and her mother. When Meryl was young, Matt Campbell was killed in action during the Gulf War and after that, she took on her mother's maiden name.
Raised in a house of military traditions, Meryl trained herself throughout her childhood in the 'arts' of soldiery. She admired the FOXHOUND unit, viewing the days when her uncle and Solid Snake were members in the unit’s heyday, and wears a paint tattoo of the unit's (more cartoon-esque) second-logo on her left shoulder. She joined the armed forces after graduating high school and received extensive psychotherapy to prevent any attraction to the opposite sex.
Dr. Naomi Hunter was the head of FOXHOUND's medical department prior the FOXHOUND Rebellion, and a member of Solid Snake's support team during that mission.
Naomi's parents were killed during the Rhodesian Civil War by Frank Jaeger, a FOXHOUND agent codenamed Gray Fox. Fox regretted this action, and subsequently adopted Naomi and raised her as a sister. Naomi never found out that Frank was the man who had killed her parents.
Naomi never knew her true name, parents or ethnic origin; she became interested in genetics and nanotechnology in an effort to uncover this information. With the help of Big Boss, she would gain access to the United States to achieve her doctorate.
When Solid Snake killed Big Boss and crippled Gray Fox, Naomi developed an intense hatred for him and vowed revenge. She obtained the identity of the real Dr. Naomi Hunter, who had gone missing in the Middle East some years prior.
At some point, Naomi aided in Frank's escape from FOXHOUND's medical research division, by covering it up as a lab accident. She later became the head of FOXHOUND's medical staff and eventually joined the Pentagon's biological weapons program, perfecting the FOXDIE virus.
Naomi was on the team that was assembled to aid Solid Snake during the Shadow Moses incident. During Snake's briefing, she injected him with various nanomachines, nootropics and an anti-freezing peptides to prevent his blood and other bodily fluids from freezing. However, Naomi had also been ordered to infect Snake with FOXDIE virus as part of his mission. Naomi, still seeking revenge, set the virus to a "wildcard" value that would kill Snake at a later date.
Naomi, after realizing that Snake was not a merciless killer as she had come to known him as, would eventually forgive Snake for nearly killing Frank following their cooperation in destroying Metal Gear REX. telling him to "Live, Snake. That's all I can say to you". Although it was Frank's last wish for Naomi to know the truth behind her parent's death, Solid Snake hid the truth out of modesty.
After Shadow Moses, Naomi was arrested for injecting Snake with FOXDIE, and placed in an undetermined maximum security facility. However, Nastasha Romanenko revealed in her book In the Darkness of Shadow Moses: The Unofficial Truth, that Naomi escaped from the facility with the aid of an unknown stranger. Romanenko adds that, "I know of only one person who could have breached the base's tight security and successfully led someone to freedom", suggesting that it was Solid Snake who freed her. Snake later revealed that he never did free her, and Roy Campbell assumed it was probably Liquid Ocelot who really freed her.
In 2014, Naomi sends Otacon and Snake a video message claiming to have been kidnapped by Liquid Ocelot in order to hijack the SOP System. In reality, she is working with him in order to destroy the Patriots' AI. Snake "rescues" her in South America, and she accompanies them to Eastern Europe. Aboard the Nomad she forms a bond with Sunny, the daughter of Olga Gurlukovitch, and becomes romantically involved with Otacon. She even felt a deep sympathy for Raiden, who became the next Cyborg Ninja, succeeding her foster brother and Sunny's mother. She creates 2/3 of the program that destroys GW and leaves the last part of the new program, FOXALIVE, to be finished by Sunny. She later reveals she had been diagnosed with terminal cancer, kept in check through the use of nanomachines. She dies shortly afterward by suppressing said nanomachines.
Revolver Ocelot also known as ADAM, Adamska, General Ivan, Shalashaska or simply Ocelot, is a former FOXHOUND agent and mercenary. A master of interrogations and a formidable gunfighter who is often referred to as a "ricochet genius", Ocelot is best known as the former right-hand man of the FOXHOUND commander Liquid Snake during the Shadow Moses island incident. Ocelot is known for his affinity for spaghetti westerns, as evidenced by his choice of weapon and his clothing, duster and spurs, the traditional garb of cowboys.
According to declassified records, Ocelot, birth name Adamska, was born during the invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944. He is the son of the legendary members of the Cobra Unit, The Joy and The Sorrow. His mother was wounded during childbirth in the middle of the battlefield, forcing her to give birth via cesarean section and the resulting operation gave her a snake-shaped wound on her torso. Shortly after birth, Ocelot was taken from his birth parents by agents of The Philosophers. He served under command of Yevgeny Borisovitch Volgin of the GRU, but was secretly a sleeper agent of both the KGB and the CIA, rooted in the American branch of The Philosophers. Because of his heritage, he was given preferential treatment as a Spetsnaz agent and was even promoted Major of his Ocelot Unit.
During Operation Snake Eater, Ocelot worked as a triple agent: He was at first an agent of The Philosophers, sent to Russia to infiltrate Colonel Volgin' army and steal The Philosophers’ Legacy for America. He was then asked by the DCI to pose as an ex-NSA code-breaker code-named ADAM, and aid Naked Snake in his mission to destroy The Cobras, destroy the Shagohod and kill The Boss, while also trying to get the Philosophers' Legacy for the American branch of The Philosophers. However, before Ocelot turned up to meet Snake, a Chinese Spy posing as EVA pretended to aid Snake in his mission while secretly plotting to take the Philosopher's Legacy for the Chinese government, so Ocelot decided to keep his identity as ADAM a secret and aid Snake subtly and secretly. Throughout the mission Ocelot and Snake have a mutual rivalry and fight on several occasions. During the fight Snake has with Volgin, Volgin orders Ocelot to shoot Snake, but Ocelot refuses, hinting at his triple-crossing before it is fully revealed, and also alluding to the idea that Ocelot looks up to Naked Snake. At the end of the game, a secret conversation between Ocelot and the DCI reveals that the American branch of the Philosophers have only acquired half of the Legacy, and Ocelot informs the DCI that the KGB has the other half. By 1970, Ocelot manages to obtain the other half of the Legacy, waiting until the time is right to use it.
Early in his career, Ocelot witnessed Colonel Volgin brutally torturing Naked Snake after he is discovered during his infiltration of Groznyj Grad. Though Ocelot was initially opposed to the practice, he later praised the effectiveness of torture, calling it "the ultimate form of expression." Ocelot started to research it after Operation Snake Eater, eventually becoming an expert in the field.
Colonel Roy Campbell is best known as the original executive officer and the second commanding officer of FOXHOUND. He is one of Solid Snake's closest friends, and uncle of Meryl Silverburgh, although they later discovered that he is actually her biological father.
Prior to joining FOXHOUND, he served the Marine Corps, the Green Berets and Delta Force. He became involved in the downfall of the original FOX unit in 1970, where he met Big Boss in a prison at La Peninsula de los Muertos, and the two joined forces to bring down FOX. Unfortunately, at the time, Campbell had a broken leg and was unable to support Big Boss outside of driving a stolen enemy van between mission sites. Recruiting members of the Red Army who were stationed at the base over to their side, they discovered the truth behind FOX's revolt, destroyed their secret weapon Metal Gear and killed the remaining members of FOX. A year later, Big Boss and Campbell officially set up FOXHOUND. Roy Campbell served as a tactician and executive officer under the codename of "Chicken Fox," a sort of playful teasing by Big Boss in that Campbell was actually quite afraid of active field duty.
Many years later, after Big Boss was defeated at Outer Heaven by FOXHOUND operative Solid Snake, and it was discovered that Big Boss was their leader, Campbell was appointed as commander of FOXHOUND and began revising FOXHOUND's methods with his personal touch. He discarded the codename system and adopted the use of high-tech equipment such as radars and spy satellites.
Campbell brought out former FOXHOUND agent Solid Snake during the Zanzibar Land uprising and served as his commanding officer during Operation: Intrude F014 in 1999. With his supervision, Snake was able to defeat the forces of Zanzibar Land and retrieve the OILIX formula.
In the following year, Campbell retired as FOXHOUND commander for undisclosed reasons, although it is believed he was unhappy with the direction the unit was taking.
In 2005, Campbell was called back to action by the US Government when FOXHOUND, now led by Liquid Snake, took over a nuclear disposal facility and held several people hostages, including Campbell's niece, Meryl, who was assigned to the disposal facility on the day of the takeover. Campbell once again brought Snake out of retirement to neutralize the new FOXHOUND. However, during the course of the mission, Campbell was forced to keep a lot of secrets from Snake, including the true purpose of his mission and his injection with FOXDIE by Naomi Hunter. Eventually, Campbell revealed the truth at the end of the mission and tried to call off an air strike directed to the base, but was arrested by Secretary of Defense, Jim Houseman. However, after Snake defeated Liquid, Campbell was exonerated from charges, as blame was laid on Houseman instead.
After the events of Shadow Moses incident, Campbell continued with his retirement. He later revealed to Snake that Meryl is really his daughter.
A man resembling Roy Campbell served as Raiden's commanding officer during the Manhattan Incident. However, this Colonel was later revealed to be an artificial construct created by The Patriots and generated by GW, Arsenal Gear's supercomputer. Sometime after the Big Shell Incident, Raiden and Campbell actually physically met, with Campbell taking on a sort of "commanding officer" role in Raiden's life. Campbell and Rose devised a plan to protect Raiden and Rose's son John. They broke all ties to Raiden, who had disappeared into the Alaskan wilderness, and pretended to marry. Campbell played out his new life to the fullest, not even being able to tell his own daughter Meryl the truth.
Campbell, now working for a counter-terrorism branch of the United Nations, contacted his old friend Solid Snake, along with his partner Hal Emmerich, after he had discovered the whereabouts of the long missing Liquid Ocelot. Not content with the UN and other governments simply ignoring Liquid's attempt to plunge the world into total war, in effect aiding the economy of the 21st Century, Campbell took the matter into his own hands and hired Snake to perform an assassination. Upon reaching the Middle East, Snake met up with Meryl, Campbell's daughter, who revealed to Snake that Campbell had remarried to a much younger woman and she was no longer speaking with "that womanizing piece of shit." Campbell was visibly upset when Snake divulged his daughter's opinion of him, but Campbell had to keep the secret that his marriage to Rosemary was a lie up until Raiden was done with his mission in order to protect John.
At the end of the mission, Campbell attends Meryl's wedding to Johnny Sasaki, finally making amends with her after years of deceit and not speaking. Roy remarks how beautiful Meryl looks, making both her and Mei Ling, Meryl's bridesmaid, break down in tears. Campbell begins to walk away before Meryl pulls her Desert Eagle from her holster, holding it to Campbell's neck. She then releases the clip, forcefully telling him, "You're going to walk me down the aisle." Campbell laughs and tells Meryl that finally, they have plenty of time to get to know each other.
Solid Snake
real name David
is a product of the Les Enfants Terribles project and "son" of legendary soldier, Big Boss along with his "brothers" Liquid Snake and Solidus Snake. He is known as "the man who makes the impossible possible" and his exploits have made him into a living legend among the military black-ops. Initially a Green Beret, Snake was later inducted into high-tech special forces unit FOXHOUND during the early 1990s while it was under the leadership of Big Boss. From there, Snake would thrice avert potential nuclear catastrophe.
After the Shadow Moses Incident and subsequent manipulation campaign by the Patriots, the secret organization behind American politics, Snake became labeled a terrorist. He faked his own death in 2007 and proceeded into hiding, although he would later emerge in 2009 to assist Raiden in the Big Shell Incident. After that, his cells would enter a state of accelerated aging, causing his health to decline. The cause of his rapid aging was explained by Dr. Naomi Hunter, who examined Snake and determined that it was caused by planned genetic changes during the cloning process.
Snake is rarely seen without his cigarettes and enjoys smoking because it keeps him in touch with the "good old days". He's also a musher who enjoys dog sled riding, and can be seen as a bit of a pervert, often seen peeking at Gentlemen's Magazines (such as Playboy, however reading this material is advised by some military orginizations to relieve stress and sexual tension, especialy in a mixed gender unit) and openly hitting on most women he meets. Being an avid music lover, Snake sometimes takes his iPod with him on missions.
Born in 1972 as a result of the "Les Enfants Terribles" project, Solid Snake is a product of a secret government project to create the perfect soldier by using the genes of the "Greatest Warrior of the 20th Century", Big Boss. By using the Super Baby Method, eight clone babies, Solid Snake being one of them, were grown and transferred to EVA's uterus. Six of these were then aborted, resulting in the twins Solid Snake and Liquid Snake. (Solidus Snake, the third and most exact clone of Big Boss, was born an unspecified amount of time afterwards, most likely to a different surrogate mother.) From them three genotypes were created; Solid Snake receiving all of the recessive genes, Liquid the dominant and Solidus a mix of both, being a mix of both Solid and Liquid Snake. Despite this fact, Liquid Snake is led to believe that he received the recessive genes and informs an unknowing Solid Snake as such. It is unclear whether Solid or Liquid eventually become aware of their actual genetic positions.
There are no detailed records of Snake's childhood proceeding the completion of the project. Snake claims he was "raised by many people," although he says he has no family to speak of.
Nevertheless, Snake eventually made his way into the military by 1991. He had been inducted into the Green Berets and took part in a mission to infiltrate western Iraq during the Gulf War. Sometime after the Gulf War he joined FOXHOUND. Like most new recruits, he was trained by Master Miller. He underwent CQC training by Big Boss himself during this time.
Snake's first mission for FOXHOUND came in 1995. He was tasked with infiltrating Outer Heaven, a military nation led by a feared and legendary mercenary, deep within South Africa. Snake was tasked with rescuing Gray Fox, a FOXHOUND agent who was captured earlier, and shed light on Metal Gear, which Gray Fox mentioned in a broken radio message sometime before his capture.
Codenamed Operation Intrude N313, Snake approached Outer Heaven via river passage and infiltrated the fortress. He kept in contact with Big Boss, the unit's commander who personally oversaw the operation. After skillfully passing guards and security measures, Snake found and released Gray Fox, who informed Snake on the truth behind Metal Gear, a bi-pedal, nuclear-equipped battle tank that could tip the balance of power in favor of Outer Heaven. Snake, still relatively green at the time, was impressed by the cool and precise demeanor and attitude of Gray Fox, a soldier within FOXHOUND who had achieved its highest ranking, "Fox." Snake then proceeded onward through the fortress, rescuing more prisoners and assisting the local resistance cell fighters in their battle against Outer Heaven.
After dealing with several of Outer Heaven's skilled mercenaries, Snake neared where Metal Gear was being stored; however, the further he progressed, the more difficult and confusing the situation became. Big Boss fed Snake poor or down-right wrong information via radio, leading him into traps and dangerous situations. Undeterred, Snake managed to destroy Metal Gear - only to discover the truth behind Outer Heaven's leader shortly thereafter. Big Boss, his commander, was behind it all. He had established Outer Heaven as a means to give warriors such as himself a home, a place they would always be welcomed. He envisioned a world where warriors were always desired, where they were not shunned or used at the whim of politicians. He had sent his son, Snake, to Outer Heaven because he did not think Snake would succeed. Big Boss had underestimated the "inferior" clone of the Les Enfants Terribles project.
Nevertheless, Big Boss would not allow Snake to escape without a fight. On the lowest level of Outer Heaven, father and son engaged in combat. After a fierce duel, Snake managed to defeat Big Boss. As the fortress began to crumble and fall apart, Snake left Big Boss for dead and made his escape from Outer Heaven. Operation Intrude N313 was a success.
Disillusioned, Snake quit FOXHOUND. He was later scouted by the CIA and spent six months as a deep cover agent before he became dissatisfied with the system and left. He became a mercenary for hire and when he earned enough money he retired into the Alaskan wilderness.
In 1999, The world was facing an unprecedented energy crisis as oil reserves dried up. Meanwhile, the military nation of Zanzibar Land had become the world's sole nuclear power which threatened to upset the balance of power in the world. To respond to the energy crisis, a Czech biologist, Dr. Kio Marv, invented OILIX, an oil refining microbe. Before being able to put OILIX to use, Marv was kidnapped by Zanzibar Land, leaving them in control of the world's answer to the energy crisis and nuclear arsenal.
The United States government would not let this continue and ordered FOXHOUND to infiltrate Zanzibar Land and rescue Marv. Roy Campbell, commander of FOXHOUND, called Solid Snake out of retirement, who accepted the assignment entitled Operation Intrude F014.
Snake succeeded in infiltrating Zanzibar. Along the way he teamed up with CIA agent Holly White and Natasha Markova, Marv's bodyguard. He was also reunited with Dr. Petrovich Madnar, the engineer responsible for the first Metal Gear, who revealed to Snake that Big Boss was alive, and that he had been captured to construct a new Metal Gear, Metal Gear D, for Zanzibar Land.
Snake once again ran into Gray Fox, but under very different circumstances: Gray Fox was now his enemy and was piloting the new Metal Gear. Fox killed Natasha as he blew up a suspension bridge, but Snake managed to elude Metal Gear and hook up with Madnar, who had been recaptured by Zanzibar's soldiers. However, Holly White informed Snake that Madnar had voluntarily joined Zanzibar and was willingly working for Big Boss. Upon learning this, Madnar tried to kill Snake, but was foiled and killed. Unfortunately for Snake, he arrived too late to save Marv. Nevertheless, Snake managed to recover the OILIX formula and destroy Metal Gear, but before he could escape he was confronted by Gray Fox.
Despite considering themselves friends, Snake and Gray Fox fought to the death amidst a mine field, hand-to-hand. Snake would later recount that it was a battle of two professionals doing their jobs, regardless of their friendship or personal feelings. The fight would end with Snake emerging victorious; Gray Fox lay apparently dead on the field of battle. His victory would be short-lived, however. Ushered forth by Big Boss's taunts, Snake was once again put face-to-face against the legendary mercenary. Weaponless, Snake was forced to elude the armed and dangerous Big Boss and create an improvised weapon; using a cigarette lighter and a can of hairspray, Snake fashioned a makeshift flamethrower and used it to put an end to Big Boss, but not before Big Boss revealed to Snake that he was his father. Shaken but undeterred, Snake committed the act of patricide and escaped Zanzibar Land with Holly White and the OILIX formula. He returned OILIX to Campbell, was commended for his actions, and once again retired, this time to the Alaskan wilderness. He hoped to forget his war-torn past, recover from his PTSD, and cope with the revelation that he had killed his father.
And so it was at the beginning of the 21st century... Shadow Moses, a small nuclear disposal facility in Alaska's Fox Archipelago is attacked and captured by the GENOME Army led by members of FOXHOUND. Once again Snake is called out of retirement. His mission is to first single-handedly infiltrate the nuclear weapons disposal site and rescue the two hostages, DARPA chief Donald Anderson and the President of ArmsTech, Kenneth Baker, and then to eliminate the terrorists and prevent a nuclear launch. He is not completely alone, however, his Support team consisted of Campbell (also called out of retirement), Naomi Hunter, Mei Ling, Master Miller and Nastasha Romanenko.
While there, Snake discovers that the leader of FOXHOUND's codename is Liquid Snake. When Snake attempts to rescue Donald Anderson (who later turns out to be Decoy Octopus) and Kenneth Baker they both mysteriously die of a heart attack. He also has a mysterious run-in with a cyborg ninja who, after Snake battles and defeats him, reveals himself to be the remains of Gray Fox. Snake then makes friends with Dr. Hal Emmerich (also known by his nickname, Otacon), a genius in engineering and the chief designer of Metal Gear REX, the newest and most deadly incarnation of Metal Gear. Snake also befriends Meryl Silverburgh, a female soldier who was captured during the uprising and the niece of Colonel Campbell (later revealed to be his daughter). Snake then successfully manages to eliminate all members of FOXHOUND and is then told by Liquid that he and Solid Snake are in fact brothers; clones of Big Boss as part of the Les Enfants Terribles project. Then Snake destroys Metal Gear REX with the aid of Gray Fox. Liquid and Solid then battle atop of REX. When Solid wins he then escapes from Shadow Moses with Meryl, in pursuit of a new life, where he can settle down.
After the events of Shadow Moses, Naomi was placed under arrest and locked up in a high security facility. It was theorized by Nastasha Romanenko in her book, "In the Darkness of Shadow Moses: The Unofficial Truth" that Solid Snake broke her out, but in truth she was broken out by Liquid Ocelot.
In reality, Snake later went on to join Otacon in forming an Anti-Metal Gear Group which they called Philanthropy.
Two years after Shadow Moses, Otacon received an anonymous tip from someone calling him or herself "E.E." (the initials of Otacon's younger step sister) that a new Metal Gear, codenamed Metal Gear RAY, was being developed by the U.S. Marine Corps., and was being sent via a Marine vessel disguised as an Oil Tanker.
Snake quickly made his way through and found his way down into the holds where RAY was being held. Shortly after taking photographic evidence of Metal Gear RAY, Revolver Ocelot appeared and claimed to be taking RAY back "to its rightful owners." He is then possessed by Liquid Snake's arm, which was attached to replace the arm he lost in Shadow Moses. Solid Snake then jumped from his hiding place and confronted Liquid but it was too late; Liquid climbed aboard Metal Gear Ray and sank the tanker with Solid Snake still inside. Luckily, Otacon was waiting by the Manhattan shore with a small boat, which he used to rescue Snake and replace his body with that of Liquid Snake's, leading people to believe that Solid Snake was dead. Solid Snake was also entirely blamed for the incident leading Olga Gurlukovich and Fortune to blame him for the death of their fathers (Colonel Gurlukovich and Commander Scott Dolph respectively).
Another two years later, Snake disguised himself as Iroquois Pliskin and infiltrated the Big Shell. Rumors of another Metal Gear, Arsenal Gear, were spreading like wildfire. There, he met Raiden and eventually met his other brother, the final of the three Sons Of Big Boss, Solidus Snake. During this incident, both Solid Snake and Otacon become aware of the existence of The Patriots, although how and when isn't exactly known. He also once again met Olga and explained to her that it was in fact Revolver Ocelot who killed her father, Colonel Gurlukovich. Snake later helped Raiden, Otacon and Emma Emmerich (Otacon's Sister) install the re-programmed computer virus, a digital counterpart of FOXDIE, into GW (Arsenal Gear's AI system), shortly before Emma dies after being stabbed by Vamp. Then once aboard Arsenal Gear, Snake and Raiden make their way through fighting the army of Arsenal Tengu soldiers. Once they reach the end Fortune challenges Snake to a fight claiming he killed her father. He signals for Raiden to carry on as he fights her. He then tells her that it was Revolver Ocelot who killed Scott Dolph and that they should work together in order to kill Liquid Ocelot. Later on, on top of Arsenal Gear, Liquid Ocelot steals metal gear RAY, Snake breaks free of his handcuffs and leaps after Liquid Ocelot, affixing a tracker onto his RAY. Snake then goes to Manhattan and meets with Raiden after the latter has defeated Solidus. Snake tells Raiden that he and Otacon are going to find the Patriots. However, in the coda, Otacon and Snake discover that all twelve members of the organization have been dead for a hundred years.
After the Manhattan Incident, Snake once again went into hiding, and began suffering from accelerated aging. His body began to age rapidly, with no doctors being able to figure out the cause. It was also revealed that he began to suffer from farsightedness.
In 2014, he was requested by his old friend Roy Campbell to eliminate Liquid Ocelot, leader of the PMC Mother Company Outer Heaven, who had recently been spotted in the Middle East. Snake and Otacon reluctantly accepted, and headed there to meet up with a group of informants whom Campbell had recommended. Making his way to the meeting location (after meeting with gun-launderer Drebin), Snake is shocked to find that his informant is his ex-lover Meryl, with her new squad, the Rat Patrol.
After parting ways with the Rat Patrol (RAT PT 01), Snake heads to a PMC camp where Liquid has been seen. But before Snake can get close enough to attempt to kill him, Liquid conducts the first of his tests to disable the SOP system, causing the soldiers in the area to suffer spasms, to be sickened and to lose emotional control (some even engaging in hostilities toward their comrades). Snake is physically affected, finding it difficult to stand or aim his gun. When Liquid notices him, he tells him to rejoice as they are not "copies of [their] father after all." After shouting this cryptic message, Liquid leaves. Before long, Snake was rescued by Johnny Sasaki, (part of RAT PT 01) who is curiously unaffected.
Almost a day later, Snake awakes and finds himself back aboard the Nomad. Otacon informs him that he had received an encrypted data file from Naomi, pleading for Snake to come rescue her, along with a map of Liquid Ocelot's safe house in South America. Finding his way through the South American jungles, Snake infiltrates the Liquid's safe house and discovers Naomi, who insists on giving him a medical exam to find the reason behind his accelerated aging. After the exam, she tells him his accelerated aging was programmed into his genes, much like his inability to reproduce. She goes on, saying that the traces of the FOXDIE she injected into him during Shadow Moses are starting to mutate and will eventually start to kill people at random. She comments on the irony of this: Snake, who had spent his whole life protecting the world from weapons of mass destruction, was now becoming one himself. Finally, she tells him about a mysterious new strain of FOXDIE that she had also detected inside him. Snake realizes that Drebin had injected him with it when they first met in the Middle East.
Snake and Naomi's reunion is cut short by the arrival of PMC soldiers and Laughing Octopus. Snake fights off some FROGs (Liquid's personal army) and eventually engages Laughing Octopus in a battle to the death with her frequently using her "ink" and octocamo to hide. She is eventually defeated by Snake and transforms into her normal human form, Laughing Beauty. Snake fights her once again and defeats her. He leaves after taking the octocamo mask (facecamo) that Octopus had been using. Drebin calls Snake over Codec, informing him of the facecamo and Octopus's past.
Snake leaves and gets a call from Raiden about tracking Naomi by her footprints. He does so and follows her trail to a mineshaft. Emerging from the other end, he spots Vamp (who was supposedly killed during the Big Shell incident), Naomi and PMC Soldiers loading into a helicopter. Snake shoots Vamp in the head and the PMC soldiers attack him. Vamp activates a nanomachine suppressor and the soldiers and Snake experience the same emotional and physical effects that Liquid initiated with his test of the system in the Middle East. Naomi yells to Snake, who is losing physical control, to use the syringe she had given to him earlier. He does so and regains the use of his body. GEKKOs arrive but Drebin crashes on to the scene in his armored vehicle and loads Naomi and Snake into the vehicle and drives off.
They head to the marketplace while fighting off GEKKO, soldiers, soldiers in mechanical power suits and a stryker. When they arrive at the marketplace, Raiden appears and he distracts the pursuing GEKKO. Otacon picks up Snake and Naomi while Raiden, who has defeated the GEKKO, fights Vamp (who now is recovered from Snake's shot to his forehead). Raiden eventually slays him but it is a pyrrhic victory, as Raiden is critically injured (and Vamp immediately revives). The chopper takes Raiden back to the Nomad, and he collapses into a coma, but not before telling Snake to go to Eastern Europe in search of Big Mama, who is in possession of Big Boss' corpse.
Snake arrives in Europe, using the facecamo to disguise himself as a younger Snake as well as disguising himself in citizen clothes. Refusing to use the security scanner to leave the building, Snake is nearly arrested by the PMC soldiers but is rescued just in time by Meryl (who pretends that he is a suspect her RAT PT 01 has been looking for). Meryl asks him to stop risking his life and to let her take care of the PMC with her newly amassed army, but unsurprisingly, he declines.
Otacon informs Snake of the meeting Big Mama's resistance members are attending, and tells him to follow one of the resistance members to its location. Snake carefully trails a member across the city, avoiding a number of PMC patrols on the street. He finds himself at a church and then subdues the resistance member he followed. When he encounters the guards, they, strangely enough, imply that they have been expecting him. Using a diverse range of CQC, Snake dispatches the guards and choke-holds a guard as a human shield while making his way into the chapel. Just before two more guards attempt to stop Snake, Big Mama herself appears and calls the guards off.
Big Mama reveals herself to be Solid Snake's surrogate mother, and one of the founding members of The Patriots. She reveals much of the power struggle between Major Zero and Big Boss, whom she loved, and whose body she is protecting. However, their meeting is interrupted by the arrival of scarabs, small unarmed mechs. Snake and Big Mama leave the hideout on her motorcycle, engaging in a high-speed chase through the streets of the city while trying to ensure that Big Boss' remains safely make it to an escape route on the canal. However, the motorcycle and the van carrying Big Boss' remains crash due to an aerial attack by Raging Raven. After defeating Raven, Snake and Big Mama escape through the sewers to the canal, expecting to meet up with resistance members guarding Big Boss' body. Instead, they encounter Liquid Ocelot, who brutally attacks Snake, driving a stun knife through his shoulder and shocking him several times. Liquid Ocelet accesses the "Sons of the Patriots" with Big Boss's DNA, and executes his plan: "Guns of the Patriots." He disables the PMCs and the RAT PT 01 team who have surrounded his boat in the Volta, this time not only suppressing their nanomachines (the effect that leads to their physical and emotional distress), but also disabling them from firing any ID weapon, effectively disarming the entirety of the gathered forces. Liquid demonstrates his power by causing several helicopters to crash, and by opening fire with his FROGs to decimate the now helpless troops who opposed him. Snake, along with the Rat Patrol and Big Mama, are caught in the fire. Liquid guns down their ship, and as it is sinking and burning, he throws the body of Big Boss onto the flames. Big Mama runs to rescue the body, but is severely burned in the process. Snake rescues her from the flames, but is badly burned himself on the left side of his face. The ship sinks, and Snake carries Big Mama to safety ashore, though she soon dies in his arms.
Afterwards, Snake and Otacon discover that Liquid was headed to Shadow Moses Island, where the remains of Metal Gear REX still remain. Liquid wishes to use REX's rail gun, which could fire nukes that were not under control of the Patriots. But though Snake quickly fights his way through the familiar Shadow Moses facility (besting B&B member Crying Wolf), he is too late to prevent the rail gun from falling into Liquid's hands. Snake and Raiden end up fighting Vamp in the REX hangar. Snake disables his nanomachines, which destroys his ability to regenerate after being wounded. Raiden then kills him for good, though his is joined in death by Naomi, who admits that she is dying of cancer and also using regenerative nanomachines to stay alive. She suppresses the nanomachines and dies next to Vamp after saying goodbye to Otacon via the Mark III. Snake pilots the reactivated REX to escape from the Shadow Moses facility while Raiden trails behind to ward off GEKKO attacks, during which he is partially buried by part of the facility collapsing. Outside the facility, Snake fights Liquid in a Metal Gear battle that pits REX and RAY against one another. REX prevails and destroys RAY, but Liquid escapes in his real Metal Gear: an Arsenal Gear prototype called Outer Haven. Outer Haven rams the pier on which Snake slumps, exhausted. It appears that Snake will be crushed by Outer Haven. However, Raiden, still trapped by the fallen debris, hacks off his right arm to escape and interposes himself between Snake and the ship. Raiden is crushed and severely injured, though he saves Snake.
The USS Missouri, a ship commanded by Mei Ling, arrives to help. Snake and the others get briefed aboard the ship, and Snake volunteers to attack Outer Haven saying that he has a "score to settle" with Liquid Ocelot. He is then launched onto Outer Havens deck, along with Meryl and Johnny. From there, he fights his way to the control room where the final B&B member Screaming Mantis is waiting for him. She attempts to control Meryl's movements and make Meryl shoot Snake and herself. However, Snake defeats Mantis and makes his way to a hallway which would lead him to the GW AI through a hallway filled with microwave radiation. He enters the passageway to the GW AI, but has one of his seizures, which he attempts to control with the syringe Naomi gave him. However, he finds that it no longer works, and he is approached by a squad of sword-wielding FROG soldiers. Raiden then appears out of nowhere and uses lighting to kill of some of the soldiers and then volunteers to go through the microwaves because of his cyborg body. Snake won't allow him to sacrifice himself, and stops him by telling him he has youth and should live his life. Raiden thanks Snake and holds of the FROG soldiers so Snake can make it through to the microwave-protected hallway. After suffering severe burning from the microwaves and dragging himself powered only by his will through the hallway, Snake finally escorts the Mk. III to download the virus into GW. Scarabs attack Snake in the GW room, and his friends appear to be failing against Liquid's army. Finally, though, the Mk. III is able to upload the virus, which destroys the entire war AI system (GW, AL, TR, and TJ, as well as the controlling program, JD). The Patriots and their SOP system that controls warfare is destroyed, but Sunny created the virus to preserve the rest of modern civilization, including the internet, communications systems, etc. The group soon sees a video of Naomi explaining what the virus has done.
Snake falls unconscious and is dragged by Liquid Ocelot to the highest point of Outer Haven, where he reveals this was all his plan and he purposely used Snake to destroy the Patriots. They engage in final combat, in order to "settle a score." Snake eventually wins the fight before Ocelot dies from exposure to new FOXDIE virus Snake carries.
Afterward, Snake goes to the cemetery where Big Boss and The Boss were buried. He plans to kill himself so the mutated FOXDIE wouldn't cause an epidemic. However, at the last minute he is unable to kill himself. It is then that he turns around to see his sworn enemy, Big Boss, at the graveyard. Big Boss overpowers Snake with CQC and embraces him in a fatherly hug. He tells Snake that it's time to stop fighting and explains the origin of the Patriots. Big Boss explains Ocelot's plan to fool the Patriots transforming himself into Liquid's mental doppelganger (via nanomachines and psychotherapy). He also explains that the body EVA and the Paradise Lost army possessed was the body of Solidus Snake, his "perfect clone." Big Boss tells Snake that Snake ended the system that his comrades mistakenly put into place so long ago. He euthanizes the vegetative Major Zero, whom he brought to the cemetery after discovering his whereabouts, ending the long conflict between them. He also tells Snake that the new FOXDIE strain present in his body will eliminate the old, mutated strain, meaning that it will disappear before it can harm others or Snake himself, thus preventing an epidemic and Snake's death.
While talking with Snake, Big Boss begins to feel the effects of the new FOXDIE strain in Snake, designed by the Patriots to kill EVA, Ocelot, and Big Boss himself. He asks Snake to take him to the grave of his mentor, the Boss. Solid Snake and Big Boss finally reconcile, as Snake lights a last cigar for Big Boss before he dies at the Boss's grave.
Snake then decides not to take his life, and he lives up to the promise he made to Big Boss: that he would not waste his last days fighting, and that he would live his last days as a free man. He decides to quit smoking, and spends the remainder of his life with Otacon and Sunny.
Dr. Hal Emmerich also known as Otacon is a founding member of the group Philanthropy, along with Nastasha Romanenko. A master engineer and the eccentric designer of Metal Gear REX, Otacon becomes a close ally of Solid Snake once he learns of REX's nuclear strike capabilities.
A devoted fan of anime, Hal's chosen nickname is the short form of Otaku Convention.
After the death of Hal's mother, his father married a British woman with a child of her own named Emma, who adopted her new father's surname. Hal and Emma became very close, and developed a mutual infatuation. Shortly afterwards, his stepmother seduced him, and they held a brief affair.
When Hal's father learned of this, he committed suicide by drowning himself, dragging in Emma too. Emma expected her brother to save her, but he didn't know it was happening as he was with his stepmother at the time. Because of this, Emma has always claimed to have hated her brother.
Shortly afterward, Hal ran away from home and didn't see any of his family members until several years later. He dropped out of school but through Internet-based self study, he secured acceptance to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he earned his PhD at a young age. He holds additional Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from Princeton University as well.
Scouted by the FBI as a student, he joined their ERF (Engineering Research Facility). After being caught monitoring and hacking their central database, he was forced out of the FBI.
Eventually, Otacon was hired by ArmsTech, Inc. to be the lead engineer for the Metal Gear REX project. He jumped at the chance to make an actual mecha type robot, which appear frequently in the anime he enjoyed. He was led to believe that it was a mobile defense system, but in reality it was a nuclear doomsday weapon
During the Shadow Moses rebellion, Otacon encountered Solid Snake, who informed him of the true nature of his creation. Devastated, Otacon realized that he had written yet another chapter in his family's dark history: his grandfather had worked on the Manhattan Project, and his father was born on August 6, 1945, the day of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima.
During this time, Otacon had developed a strong attraction to FOXHOUND member Sniper Wolf, possibly under the effects of Stockholm syndrome. Distraught that Snake would have to kill her, Otacon eventually came to terms with her, himself, and his position in life. With Otacon's assistance, Snake was able to destroy Metal Gear REX and defeat the terrorist uprising. After the schematics to REX were placed on the black market by Revolver Ocelot, Nastasha Romanenko and Otacon set up Philanthropy. Following this, Snake and Otacon began a partnership and close friendship that would continue through the next decade, as they would continue to destroy Metal Gear REX derivatives that were currently being developed by almost every country in the world.
Two years after Shadow Moses, Otacon was forced underground after Snake had been framed by The Patriots during the Tanker Incident. After the Tanker had been sunk by Ocelot, Otacon managed to sail over to the still sinking tanker in a small boat and save Snake, quickly replacing him with the body of the deceased Liquid Snake. Having faked Snake's death, the two of them went underground to continue their anti Metal Gear work outside of the public's watchful eye.
Otacon and Snake eventually came out of hiding after he learned that Emma, his sister, was working at the Big Shell Offshore Cleanup Facility. Emma secretly informed Hal of the construction of a new Metal Gear weapon deep under the Big Shell's core, and they infiltrated the facility in order to rescue her and stop the project from continuing. Snake disguised himself as Iroquois Pliskin, a junior grade lieutenant in the United States Navy SEALs, while Otacon pretended to be a simple Big Shell engineer. After meeting Raiden, Otacon and Snake were able to rescue Emma from the bowels of the Big Shell and reunite the two. They learned that Emma was actually a Patriots engineer, who was hired to build GW and Arsenal Gear because of her family's dark nuclear history. Eventually, he made up with Emma, and she helped them implant a virus into GW, which they assumed would destroy it, but she died shortly afterward due to a fatal knife wound inflicted upon her by Dead Cell member Vamp. Despite falling into deep despair over the loss of his sister, Snake encouraged him to move on and rescue all the hostages held in the Big Shell. Apparently he was successful in this, and stayed in contact to support Raiden until he defeated Solidus Snake.
When Snake met back with Otacon, he was given the disk to go over that contained the data of The Patriots names and whereabouts. After this Otacon told Snake about The Patriots information on the disc. One of the names was the biggest contributor to Philanthropy's cause, but apparently all twelve of them had been dead for more than 100 years. Later, Otacon and Snake uncovered the true source of these twelve names, which turned out to be a false lead, and as Snake bluntly put it, "a bunch of crap."
After The Manhattan Incident, Snake and Otacon disappeared, and lived a quiet life. Sometime after The Manhattan Incident, Raiden was able to rescue Sunny Gurlukovich from The Patriots' clutches, and she was adopted by Otacon and raised into a bit of a computer genius, despite her military lineage. In 2014, thanks to the booming War Economy, Roy Campbell contracted Snake to help eliminate Liquid Ocelot, head of the PMC mother company Outer Heaven. Snake and Otacon reluctantly accepted, and Otacon assisted Snake from his ship the Nomad using Metal Gear Mk. II. Their first mission in the Middle East was a failure after Liquid activated his first test attempt at disabling the SOP system in his PMC troops.
When Snake then infiltrated South America and managed to rescue Naomi Hunter, Otacon rescued them and Raiden using a chopper. Afterwards, aboard the Nomad, Otacon and Naomi Hunter became romantically involved. He also started to not wear his glasses because Naomi commented that he looked "handsome" without them.
However, Otacon was crushed when Naomi left the Nomad and re-joined Liquid Ocelot and Vamp again. And on Shadow Moses Island, after Raiden defeated Vamp, Naomi confronted Snake, Raiden, and Otacon (via the Metal Gear Mk. III). It was then she revealed that she had terminal cancer, suppressed only by the nanomachines in her, and there was nothing more that could be done about it. She then injected herself, suppressing her nanomachines and effectively committing suicide. Otacon, devastated, could not help but recall how many women in his life whom he had loved died.
Otacon later assisted Snake when they boarded Outer Haven and helped him to dismantle GW which had been restored by Liquid Ocelot. After Liquid Ocelot himself was defeated for good and, Otacon was seen attending the relatively small wedding of Meryl and Johnny Sasaki with Sunny. There, Sunny made friends with a local boy. Otacon saw this and told Sunny that he will allow her to start living on the outside now. It appeared as though Otacon was aware of Snake's plan to kill himself, as he started to cry and explain that Snake wouldn't be back for a long time when Sunny asked where Snake was.
When Snake did not commit suicide, Otacon and him had a short conversation about what they would do now. Otacon said he would gladly stay with Snake and chronicle the remainder of Snake's life as Snake waited to see what the era would bring.
Metal Gear Solid 2 Story
Solid Snake, working as an agent of Philanthropy, walked along the George Washington Bridge with the intention of leaping from it, and landing onto of the U.S.S. Discovery. Working with his team-mate and best friend Otacon via Codec, their mission was to infiltrate the tanker and get photographic evidence of a new Metal Gear supposedly being transported with in it.
This new model, code named Metal Gear RAY, was being developed by the Marines as a means to combat the abundance of Metal Gear REX Units being developed after Revolver Ocelot leaked the plans for REX onto the black market. At that time, almost every country had its own version of Metal Gear. Philanthropy was formed by Nastasha Romanenko and Otacon specifically to counter this.
Immediately after landing on the tanker, Snake witnessed the hostile takeover of the tanker by Russian Mercenaries who killed all the marines on the deck. Snake quickly managed to catch a photo of their commander, later identified as Sergei Gurlukovich, former GRU colonel. Not deterred by this new development, Snake commenced with his first objective: find out where the Discovery is headed.
After making his way into the bridge of the tanker, Snake saw the destination for the tanker was in the middle of the Atlantic, roughly 500 miles off the coast of the Bermudas. From this, Otacon estimated that RAY was practically combat ready. Hearing a noise, and heading out onto the deck to investigate, Snake encountered Sergei’s daughter, Olga Gurlukovich. After an intense Gun shoot out, Snake used his tranquilizer gun to knock her unconscious. Snake took her weapon and discovered he was being watched by an Army Cypher T. Otacon called Snake and told him that Philanthropy didn’t dig up the information for this new Metal Gear on their own, it was given to them as an anonymous tip signed “E.E” Otacon’s nickname for his stepsister, Emma Emmerich. Otacon also warned Snake that their codec line was being monitored by an unknown presence and the two arranged for a different message of sending the RAY photographs.
RAY Escapes
Pressing on, Snake descended into the holds where the Marines were being briefed by the Marine Commandant Scott Dolph standing in front of RAY itself. After taking photographs of RAY from the front, left and right side and the “Marines” insignia on its legs, Snake headed to the small computer in the main hold which Otacon had hacked into in order to send the photos. After sending, and as the Commandant’s speech wrapped up, Revolver Ocelot emerged from the shadows along with Sergei Gurlukovich and his mercenaries.
Gurlukovich, holding the Commandant hostage, spoke of how he was stealing Metal Gear RAY so it could be returned to the Motherland. All of the technology which gave birth to Metal Gear was Russian-made. Ocelot, amused by this, informed his comrade that he wasn’t stealing RAY for Russia but was instead "taking it back." Ocelot proceeded to kill Gurlukovich, Scott Dolph and several members of the Russian mercenaries.
Activating the SEMTEX he had placed around the ship, Ocelot intended to sink the Tanker and proceeded to board RAY. Before he could, however, Snake leapt from his hiding place and confronted Ocelot. Before having any chance to react, Ocelot’s new arm started to twitch, before eventually Ocelot started to speak with the voice of Liquid Snake! Confronting his brother, Liquid climbed inside RAY and completely destroyed the Tanker. As RAY flees the scene, Ocelot was heard contacting his conspirator informing him that everything went as planned and photographic evidence exists of Snake on the tanker. Snake nowhere to be seen, was officially filed as Deceased after the incident.
Shortly after the tanker incident, a gigantic off-shore clean up facility known as the Big Shell, was built in order to clean up the mass-amount of oil that had been left from the sinking of the Discovery. The Big Shell itself has become a landmark, a symbol of environmental protection. The Big Shell was shaped like two hexagons connected end-on-end. At the centre of each "hexagon" was a Core (Core 1 and Core 2) each core surrounded by six Struts. Core 1: surrounded by Struts A to F, Core 2: surrounded by Struts G to L.
April 29th, 2009. The 44th President of America, James Johnson, was taking a tour of the facility. Suddenly, Special Forces unit Dead Cell, led by a man calling himself “Solid Snake”, took control of the facility, holding the president and several other men and women hostage. Their demands were $30 Billion in cash, and that if no-one complied with their demands they would fire a nuke directly into the heart of Manhattan. Rookie FOXHOUND agent Raiden, fresh from VR Training, was sent into the Big Shell in order to rescue the President and to stop the terrorists from firing a nuke. His support team were FOXHOUND commander Colonel Campbell, and Rose, Raiden’s girlfriend.
As Raiden begun his mission, he discovered SEAL Team 10’s bloody corpses filling the halls of Strut B, and inside he found Vamp, a member of Dead Cell, sucking blood from one of the SEAL’s. Another member of the SEALs advanced on Vamp, before Vamp cut his arm, disarming him and throwing him up against a nearby wall. Recognising the SEAL (stating that he had a “familiar smell”) Vamp vanished after receiving a call from Fortune. Afterwards, The SEAL introduced himself to Raiden as Iriquois Pliskin Lieutenant Junior Grade, a member of SEAL Team 10, who was sent into the Big Shell to rescue the president. Pliskin told Raiden to go on ahead handing him a SOCOM pistol.
Countdown To Disaster
Raiden pressed on, witnessing Fortune destroying a faction of the SEALs using her rail-gun destroying the connecting bridge. Moving onto Strut C, Raiden found Peter Stillman, bomb disposal expert, who had lost his leg in a tragic church explosion five years before which he had caused. He told Raiden and Pliskin how he taught Fatman, Dead Cell’s bomb expert, everything he knew. Handing them both Bomb Sensors (designed to specifically detect bomb’s specific scent spectrums) he asked the pair to neutralize the various bombs that had been planted around the Shell by Fatman, while he waited and helped them from his position. Using a special coolant spray, Raiden and Pliskin set out, with Raiden staying to dispose the bombs in Struts A to F, with Pliskin handling the bombs in Struts G to L. During, Rose gave Raiden a call, and asked if he knew what day it was tomorrow. Confused, he replied that he didn’t know, but he would try his hardest to remember. As Raiden was passing through the EF Connecting Bridge he was called by a mysterious stranger, warning him of mines on the bridge. The stranger first introduced himself as Deepthroat, whom Raiden remembered was the name of another strange figure from Shadow Moses, before changing his name to Mr. X.
Managing to find and freeze most of the bombs, Pliskin called Stillman and Raiden, warning them that there were more threatening C4’s packed into the bottom of Strut H. Stillman theorised that there may also be one on Strut A but luckily, the bombs weren’t yet activated. Stillman told the pair he would head over to the Strut to help. Pliskin told Stillman to stay put, as with his bad leg he was bound to be spotted. Stillman confessed everything. He didn’t really lose his leg in the church explosion, it was merely a ruse to protect himself. He faked being a victim because he couldn’t live with the guilt of all the
