Hello I em Sayuri the "Okamisan" the head of this teahouse.

Let me clear you of the misconception about "Geisha" We are not prostitutes nor do we have one night stands! we do not prepare food or are slave, We are not wive! The word Geisha means "artist" and that is what we are! We are professional female entertaire who perform truditional japanese arts. Girls who wish to become a geisha, have to go through a rigid apprenticeship during which they learn various traditional arts such as playing instruments, singing, dancing, but also conversation and other social skills.
The head of the household or the "mother" if you will is known as the "okamisan". She looks over and trains her family. Young girls known as "tamago" (meaning egg) are taken in at various ages and perform various household chores and they observe the "maiko" (geisha's in training) and the geishas. At the age of 17 these "tamago" may become "maiko" to train to become geisha it will take 3-4 more years of training to finally become a true geisha..
In Japanese tradition a tea house (chashitsu lit. "tea room") can refer to a structure designed for holding Japanese tea ceremonies. Tea rooms for tea ceremonies, whether they comprise an independent structure or one room within a larger architectural structure, are also called chashitsu in Japanese. The architectural space called chashitsu was created for aesthetic and intellectual fulfillment.
In Japan a tea house (ochaya) can also refer to a place of entertainment with geisha, the most notable of which is the Ichiriki Ochaya. These kind of tea houses are typically very exclusive establishments.
About the tokugawa age!
Tokugawa Ieyasu was the most powerful man in Japan after Hideyoshi had died in 1598. Against his promises he did not respect Hideyoshi's successor Hideyori because he wanted to become the absolute ruler of Japan.
In the battle of Sekigahara in 1600, Ieyasu defeated the Hideyori loyalists and other Western rivals. Hence, he achieved almost unlimited power and wealth. In 1603, Ieyasu was appointed Shogun by the emperor and established his government in Edo (Tokyo). The Tokugawa shoguns continued to rule Japan for a remarkable 250 years.
