UPDATE: So we thought that TOKYOPOP postponing of certain manga series last year because of them downsizing their company was bad therefore, they had to shorten the list of manga they were putting out right? Kodansha, the original Japanese publisher of the series some years ago let TOKYOPOP translate some of Japan's popular titles i.e. CLAMP (Chobits, Legal Drug, Card Capture Sakura), Initial D, Rave Master, Love Hina, Samurai Deeper Kyo, Love Attack, Kindaichi Case Files, and GetBackers, as well as other titles unfortunately let their contract expire, therefore TP cannot finish these titles, even if they were close to ending. Dark Horse Manga and Del Rey Manga have already picked up particular titles but there is still speculation about the other titles that were not. Kodansha did not offer an explanation for their decision but TOKYOPOP was not surprised by this decision. LIFE unfortunately is on that list so that means one, the tenth volume will not come out, two unless another manga publisher in the US picks it up, the first nine volumes will be available until suppliers run out of their copies, making it another series that is out-of-print and honestly, I doubt that a publishing company in the US will pick it up but only time will tell (I have hope!).

Life (ライフ; Raifu) is a shōjo manga series created by mangaka, Keiko Suenobu and is serialized in one of the many publications of Kodansha, Bessatsu Friend. Life deals with real situations that are controversial such as self-mutilation, bullying, rape, suicide, and manipulation. The series has done so well that in 2006, it won the Kodansha Manga Award for best shōjo, a live-action drama was produced by Fuji TV which Mika Nakashima’s sings the theme song, also titled Life, and a drama novelization of the story was made.

Little Known Facts

Keiko Suenobu was born in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka, Japan in March of 1979.

Life has been translated into at least three other languages.

The manga series ended this year with 20 volumes as of now.

The live action drama originally ran from June 30, 2007 to September 15, 2007, completed in eleven episodes.

Fukuda Saki won Best Supporting Actress for the series at the 54th Television Drama Academy Awards.

Tanimura Masaki won Best Director for the series at the 54th Television Drama Academy Awards.

That pic you have that says Kitano Kii is wrong. That's not Ayumu, it's Anzai, saki Fukuda, it even says so on the bottom of the picture!
