Apparently showing sensitivity to music even as an infant, his mother took him to take piano lessons at the age of 4. During his childhood, he was fascinated with capturing sounds and songs with his tape recorder, something he carried everywhere with him. In the third grade, he became interested in music theory and also started cello lessons.
Jay is one of Taiwan's most influential artists and is known for merging both Chinese and Western musical styles with his classical music background to produce a fresh sound that is different from the mainstream Taiwanese pop.
