---My Personal Tips---
► one of the most important things is to wear comfortable shoes.
i cant tell you how important this one is. & you would think that everyone knows it but i constantly see people walking around in sandals//flip-flops
buy new shoes if you have to. & make sure you break them in a few weeks before.
► dont be afraid to use public transportation. there are easy ways to finding out the schedual of trollies & buses. google is your friend.
► take advantage of the conventions free shuttle services. i personally have never used them.
(because you cant get me away from the convention center + i dont stay in a hotel so, there isnt any need)
in the convention booklet. (you get it when you get your badge; they give it to you everyday- if you take it)
it will have a map of the convention center, the stands & also the free shuttles.
(at least the past years, it had that) its not that hard to understand. just look it up in the book, the buses have signs & colors so its hard to miss
--
warning--
long LONG bus lines so, learn when your bus will get there, & if you can have someone stand in line for you. that would really help
► bring a pen, highlighter and small notebook
i am constantly changing my plans (because rooms get full, cancelled, or you find something even better)
& i am always writing stuff down.
► bring your own food and water
if you really have money, then dont worry about it. but it really is just like the movie theatres. 6 bucks for a hot dog that isnt really good....
if you dont want to eat in the convention center, downtown there are lots of food places (restaraunts & fastfood) if you dont like either of those, a few blocks up is a ralphs (google maps it)
► make friends in line
this is a big one, especially if your alone. it is really difficult to get by alone. how are you going to go to the bathroom!? you are all there because you share an interest in comics (hopefully) so even if you arent very social just try your best to start up a conversation
--
warning--
dont try to cut in line, this happened to me 2 years ago. i was sitting next to a big group & this girl kept coming around & acting friendly with them. when it was time to give out tickets, she came back & they said. why are you here? you didnt stand here with us. she got shot down (LOL)
also. i met up with a friend & we decided to go ahead & let her cut in. later her 'friends' came by i was so shocked! i had stood there 12 hours, i let her in because i knew her. then her friends that didnt even introduce themselfs to me. the person who was here first thought they could cut in. i didnt say anything because they were her friends but i was pretty pissed.
► have a PLAN! make sure you already know what you want to go to, because you will have to get there early to save a spot!
► BRING:
something to pass the time (cards, laptop, psp, gameboy)
camera
sunscreen
extra batteries
money (& lots of it-- also, dont keep it all in the same place!)
phone charger
an umbrella
hand sanitizer
► unless you have a hotel room that is nearby & you can easily walk over to, to store all your stuff, think before you grab everything. because your going to have to carry all of that stuff around with you for the whole day
►the people that work there are mostly volunteers, they dont know where half of the stuff is, so if you get lost ask a regular attendee because usually they know more than the secruity people do
(no seriously...)
► If your planning on standing in the hall H line; buy some kind of foldable lawn chair/tent/air mattress
► you can never be too early
► dont give up on what you really want
i.e a booth is giving out a poster you really want, it is chaos trying to get it because people are pushing you, if you really want it push back (well, not too hard...)
► dont be afraid to ask for seconds (if there is something free they are giving away dont be afraid to ask for another one. i asked for another new moon poster and he ended up giving me four! so dont be afraid to ask)
►do research/ask around; there are alot of things that are going on that arent happening at the convention center, just around sandiego
i.e last year after the ponyo panel downtown there was going to be a screening of the whole movie for free
► have your camera out and ready because there are stars just walking around and you lose your chance if you dont have it ready
last year i was walking back to the convention center from downtown, i turn around & out walks michael chiklis from the back of a building (like a secret back door)
(he's the thing from Fantastic4) he was ten ft from me! & i was so in shock that i didnt take a picture
►people dont smell like roses; shower everyday, and bring deodorant (PLEASE!- lol)
►nearer towards the event Comic Con starts selling parking slots; under the convention center and in the near by areas
--
warning--
they sell out very quickly
►planning on staying in a hotel? pricey pricey pricey. the farther away the hotel, the better the deal.
rooms around that time (middle of july) get booked 7 months in advance. its crazy
( i have never needed to stay in a hotel, but i hear peoples horror stories; lol)
►dont bash things. twilight is a perfect example. just grow up, will you.
►"glomp me- especially when im not looking, its funner that way" & "free hugs"
if you are one of those people, please, PLEASE! dont hug people that dont want to be hugged.
if you wear a glomp me shirt, you better want to get glomped
& i mean tackled x-x
Cosplaying:
► Don't:
be so unfriendly if people want to take your picture
bring too big of props
be wearing anything you feel uncomfortable//embarassed in
► be in character (when taking pictures)
►make sure to read what is allowed & what isnt (hence- a real sword is probably not allowed...)

What I use to carry stuff in:
i always bring a bookbag & backpack.
however this year i brought, a backpack, my usual bookbag, + this awesome beach bag
(its huge! so i can put lots of junk in it-LOL-)
if you are a poster person. lots of people buy/bring a poster holder.
(they sometimes give them away. so be on the look out because buying one, they can get pricey. especially for something
that just holds posters)
