For all those people who write their own songs, play instruments, and want to know about famous people who write their own songs.
Songwriters may perform the songs they write themselves, or they may write for somebody else to perform. People who sing ther own songs are nowadays typically called singer-songwriters, although the tradition of doing this dates back hundreds of years. Less recently, the troubadours of the Middle Ages sang their own works, as did the German Minnesingers. In the contemporary era, the songwriting competition (ex. International Songwriting Competition) has become a valuable venue for aspiring songwriters.
Most art songwriting is written for somebody other than the composer to perform, although it is known that Franz Schubert often sang his own songs at private parties. In fact most popular songwriters of today enjoy having their work recorded by a variety of artists and hearing different renditions.
Many modern rock and roll bands have one or two songwriters, usually members of the band.
Many songwriters also serve as their own music publishers, while others have outside publishers. Songs in pop music are often written by staff writers; songwriters directly employed by music publishers. Country music also uses staff writers, but many country artists are singer-songwriters in their own right.
And so, this month we'll be discussing one great songwriter, none other than the counrty singer, sweet, simple, beautiful Taylor Swift.
Part of Taylor Swift's charm is that she really is the one behind the songs. She's the one dreaming up these big stories and setting them to a seriously country sound. It's easy to ignore that, though, and get swept up in her beauty, her enthusiasm and what her fans might refer to as her "overall awesomeness." She's a pop culture phenom, with an l.e.i. jeans deal, a Seventeen magazine cover and an oft-visited MySpace page.
But none of this would have happened if not for the songs she writes. The novelty of her being a tween with a Nashville songwriting deal has worn off. Now she's a very legit hitmaker, regardless of the facts that she's just finished high school and isn't even old enough to drink. When you see her perform at concerts, she introduces each song with the story that inspired it. Everyone knows about Drew, the one who caused the teardrops on her guitar. But there are other guys who did her wrong and other girls who wouldn't let her into their cliques. And about a million other ways to spin teen angst into tunes her fans know by heart.
Her favorite song on the record is "Fifteen," a song she wrote when she first met her best, positive and constant friend, Abigail. Those two giggly girls both fell in love for the first time with boys who had cars. Abigail got her heart broken, but Taylor realized her dreams were more important than a boyfriend or a broken heart.
It's difficult for the two friends since Abigail is off at college while and Taylor is either on her bus, on the stage or at a concert venue, but the two friends either talk on the telephone or chat by video every day to stay current.
SO guys, keep adding posts on the wall and in the forum cuz we wanna know what you think about the songwriter of the month. Its nice to hear what people think. And keep visting this groups cuz there are gonna be songwriting competitions, Take care and bye bye
