For all of us sinners...
Here are the
SEVEN
DEADLY
~SINS~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~LUST~~
Symbolism
Light blue is actually the color for lust, but I think a purple-red works better. Red roses mean love...hearts are red...works better than light blue.The roses in the picture represent love (usually a symbol for lust) and they are burning because they represent the burning feelings of love that she has.
~~WRATH~~
Symbolism
"Red is quite frequently used to represent anger...hence why I used so much red in this picture. The sky in the background is stormy and fiery, to symbolise the chaos that's inside of her. The blood that is pouring out of her nose, mouth, and eyes isn't because she's killed anything. It's actually her own blood. Blood pressure rises when we are angry and I was trying to convey that her blood pressure is so high it's pouring out of her. Also, they say that when you're angry "all you see is red." Which is quite literal in her case since her eyes are all bloodied-up now.
The dead birds on the ground weren't just put there to add some morbid twist to this picture. I wanted to show that her rage can lead to violence, but I did not want to put skulls in there to be confused with Envy. So whatever it was I would pick, it would have to be either hurt & dying, or not fully decayed yet. After much thought I decided what would really convey her rage was if the creature was something innocent, that only someone evil & twisted could hurt. If I put infants in there, that would probably be interpreted in a different way - with a political twist to it. So, I had to stick with something non-human. I also wanted the creature to be something that can escape danger easily. Since I couldn't do a human, (who has the mental capacity to get away from danger), I had to pick something that had the physical capabilities to easily escape danger (not necessarily the mental capacity). Nothing fits those parameters as well as a bird. So, the dead birds are there as a message saying that nothing can escape her wrath, not even the innocent birds (who can evade almost anything)."
~~ENVY~~
Symbolism
She's wrapped in a cloth and hunched over. The meaning I took from it is the cloth that's wrapped around her represents the envy that consumes her, and the hunching and onward-looking infers that she's completely bent over and obsessed with those she envies. The snake is often a symbol for envy, so I've incooporated a few of those into this piece. The skulls represent the people she has hurt because of her jealousy (represented by the snakes weaving through the bones), and inferring that she will go to any length to hurt those she is jealous of.
~~GREED~~
Symbolism
"The color I used was greenish-yellow, the color of money. She is chained to her treasures because her fate will be shared with theirs, and vice-versa. She's not struggling to get out of the chains, she is willingly clinging to her treasures within the chains. She wants them to only be hers, through her life and until her death. The treasures are locked up because she will not share them. "
~~SLOTH~~
Symbolism
"Why the color blue? Because I think sloth is more for those who are depressed and sad...not because of some medical condition...but because they sit there in self-pity. I wanted to illustrate that they have no desire to get up from their bed in the morning, to do anything at all (even if it's something they'd enjoy)...they have absolutely no motivation. I'm poking fun at the people that put themselves in that state of mind. The people who sit there "woe is me..." and cry and moan about every little thing that went wrong in their life. I think that's more of a deadly sin than the lazy. Hell, I'm lazy and it's not all that bad
The little saying I made for her above is illustrated in the picture. It's hard to see on some monitors, but there's actually a raven perched on her shoulder looking down at her. Ravens represent death. You know how lots of people go through that mid-life crisis? They realize they're aging and suddenly decide to start doing productive things with their lives? Well that's what I was getting at. Even as she gets older, she never goes through that "mid-life" crisis (not even approaching death could rouse her to live.)
Spider webs are all over her, suggesting she's been laying there for a while. Her eyes are partially open, so you know she's not asleep. She's laying there on her own free will. "
~~VANITY~~
~~PRIDE~~
Symbolism
"The color purple was chosen because it typically is associated with royalty and upper class, and pride is often thought to be a flaw shared by them.The mirror symbolises the love she has for herself. She has sat herself on a pedestal. It's cracked because it will crumble and ultimately be her greatest downfall"
More sins...
~~GLUTONY~~
Symbolism
The image of gluttony has become so generic and cliche that the meaning behind it has become warped. Gluttony isn't a sin of being fat, but of overconsumption. It's certainly not healthy to be overweight but not sinful. I think an alcoholic would fit more with a deadly sin than a beefy chick stuffing her face with grub. Don't get me wrong, I'm not some anti-alcohol activist - I have nothing against drinking. I just think an alcoholic fits the sin more than someone overweight.
Besides, I don't want my work to be lumped into everyone else's, I'd rather be creative and different...but at the same time producing ia strong piece.
...........we are the sinners.........
Shall you join? For no one is all good or or all evil. That is the flaw inside us all. But it makes us who we are. So human, decide. Before I commit a sin and shove a Demonia boot up your ass till you die.
