Tohru Honda is 16 year old orphaned girl who gets invited to live in the house of her classmate, the handsome boy Sohma Yuki, and his cousins, 16 year old Kyo and 27 year old Shigure. However, these young men and parts of the rest of their family (both close and distant) hold a curse; if they are hugged by the opposite gender, they transform into animals of the Chinese Zodiac. Everyday is an adventure for sweet Tohru, as she gets to know everyone in the large family better, in both common and bizarre situations. But, the Sohma Family curse is certainly no laughing matter... it also holds horrible cruelity and heartbreak.

Tohru Honda is 16 year old orphaned girl who gets invited to live in the house of her classmate, the handsome boy Sohma Yuki, and his cousins, 16 year old Kyo and 27 year old Shigure. Tohru Honda is sweet and good at cooking. She loves to do house cleaning too. But somehow she loves her mother the most. Her mother dies in a traffic accident and her father dies because the sickness. Tohru also has a grandfather. Tohru has two friends, Hanajima and Uotani looking after her when ever she is bully. Sometimes Tohru is clumsy too. When Tohru's mother read a Chinese Zodica story when Tohru was little, Tohru said she wants to be a cat not a dog beacuse the cat was foolish in the story Tohru bacame sad and said she wants to the cat. Tohru was born the year of the dog. Soon Tohru start to like Kyo-kun. She wants to find the solution to help break the curse. But she wants to help kyo the most.

Kyo is cursed by the cat, an animal not in the Chinese zodiac but which legend says would have been if it had not been tricked by the rat. He is depicted as an orange-haired young man who is short-tempered and charismatic, if initially awkward around people; Arisa Uotani once calls him "anger management boy. As the cat, Kyo hates Yuki, the current rat of the zodica, and his wish is to defeat Yuki. Soon Kyo made a bet with Akito: if he defeats Yuki before graduating high school, he would be accepted as part of the zodiac and however, if he does not, Kyo would be confined inside the Sohma for the rest of his life.
When Kyo was young, his mother died in an accident rumored to be suicide over her son's curse, and after his father rejected him, Kyo was taken in by Kazuma Sohma. The two love each other as father and son, but but Kazuma insists he continue to live with Shigure because he believes Tohru is helping him open up. Kyo's run away when people help him. He was ashamed at his real form. He also likes Tohru too.

Yuki aged 16–18, is the rat of the Chinese zodiac. In schols many people admires him. when Yuki was little Akito Sohma the head of Sohma leader, convince him that "no like him" because of that Yuki became low-self esteem. In school she is known as "Prince Charming". Soon Yuki have start to like Tohru but he knew Kyo likes her so instead he has attracted to Machi so instead he end up with Machi together.
