It was learned on March 23rd that Koike Teppei (22) of the popular duo 'WaT' will have the lead role in the movie 'Homeless Chuugakusei', directed by Furumaya Tomoyuki and set for release in Autumn. The movie is based on the autobiography of Tamura Hiroshi (28) of the comic duo 'Kirin.'
'Homeless' went on sale in August of last year and has exceeded more than 2,000,000 copies in sales. Tamura experienced the breakup of his family at his father's words and this is the anecdotal true story of how he spent the summer when he was 14 years old in a park experiencing many things in his youth.
Tamura had mentioned previously in a TV program 'I want Koike Teppei to play my role' and that thought has become reality. Attention also focuses on the gap between an idol at the peak of his popularity leading a homeless lifestyle. Director Furumaya says 'There are many facets (to the character) and with him I thought he would be able to work from inside the heart of a junior-high student.' Other family members and cast haven't yet been decided.
Filming will start at the end of March in Okinawa. 'Makifun Kouen' will be the centerpiece of the project with about 10,000,000 yen spent on production of a full-scale 3.1m(height) and 3.6m(diameter) set. Filming is set to continue until the end of April with the movie completed in June.
Following 'Love Con' and 'KIDS' this is the third lead role for Koike Teppei and he commented 'To play the part of Hiroshi will be very difficult and I want to live up to the image of the original book. I want to face this project with all my might and act my best until the end.' As an actor he is aiming to take a great leap forward together with this book that reached #2 on the bestseller list for 2007.
