What is Warriors?
Warriors is a young adult series created by Erin Hunter (pen name). Warriors are cats that live in clans in the forest/around the lake.

What are the Clans that live in the forest?
The Clans in the forest are the same as the Clans that later live around the lake.
ThunderClan (where most of the main characters in the books are from) is of the woods. ThunderClan cats love the trees above them and love to hunt forest prey such as mice, shrew, and vole.
WindClan is of the hills. They are out in the open and love to look at the open skies above them. In the first prophecy, the live on the moor, and in the second prophecy, they live in the hills. They are small, muscular, and lithe, perfect for chasing rabbits as their main prey source.
RiverClan is of the water. In the first prophecy, RiverClan is on the other side of the river, and in the second prophecy, RiverClan camp is located on a small island in between where to streams cross, flowing into the lake. RiverClan cats love to swim and a lot of their diet is made up of fish.
ShadowClan is also of the forest. It is said that the cold winds blow toward ShadowClan and chill their hearts. They are known to be the meanest and most aggressive of the Clans. The forest they are in is a damp, marshy, pine forest. They hunt mainly the same things that ThunderClan does (mice, shrew, vole, etc).

What is the difference between the forest and the lake?
The forest is the setting of the first prophecy of Warriors (first 6 books). There is the moor, the gorge, Fourtrees, and Moonstone. In the second prophecy, the cats are forced to leave their beloved forest home due to Twoleg destruction, which takes them to the lake.
The lake comes in during the second prophecy and remains to be the setting through the third prophecy. The Clans all live around the lake with an island in the middle of the lake for the Gathering.
