A singing group composed of three males, they were extremely popular during their years together in 1988-1995. The Little Tigers (小虎隊) are Benny Chen (陳志朋), Tommy Alec Su (蘇有朋), and Nicholas Nicky Wu (吳奇隆).
Alec Su's stardom career started in 1988, at the age of 15, when he joined The Little Tigers trio boy band. The band was the first idol singing group that debuted in the Taiwanese music industry and Alec was labelled as the 'obedient tiger'. Its elevated popularity was unprecedented by any other singing group at the time. The Little Tigers attracted fans from Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Singapore, and amongst Chinese communities around the world. The success of the band began the new generation of Taiwanese pop culture in the early 1990s.
Apart from being a singer, Alec was often epitomized by the general public as a superior student. He attended Taiwan's number one high school, Taipei Municipal Jian Zhong High School and was accepted into the prestigious National Taiwan University, where he majored in Mechanical Engineering . Alec's experiences describing his high school years, preparing for the Taiwan university entrance examinations while trying to also juggle his performing schedule as a member of a popular singing group, are recorded in his 1995 book entitled My Days at Jian Zhong / Youth Never Die.
However, as Alec became well known at a young age, he felt that he had lost his freedom as a result of being in the limelight and in the public's eye. At the age of 21, a year before his Uni graduation in Taiwan, Alec decided to study abroad in England.
In 1995, after the break up of Little Tigers, Alec Su embarked on an acting career. His role as the fifth prince in the Chinese TV series blockbuster Princess Returning Pearl I and II won him fame as a television actor in 1997. He continued in 2000 with another hit TV series Romance in the Rain. His later TV series include Heavenly Sword and Dragon Sabre (2002), Magic Touch of Fate (2004, costarring Taiwanese actress Ruby Lin and Korean singer Kang Ta), and Mischievous Princess (2005). He collaborated with Korean actress Chae Rim in two 2003 productions, Love of the Aegean Sea and Warriors of the Yang Clan. In 2006, Alec appeared in the 1930s drama Jiang Ji Jiu Ji' co-starring with Li Qian, Cecilia Ye Tong, and Paul Chun, which aired in Spring 2007. In 2008 he acted in the TV drama Da Zhen Fan, which will air in early 2009.
Currently, Alec is concentrating on his movie career. In the second half of 2008 he participated in four film projects. The Four Cupids, a romantic comedy, will premiere in China for Valentine's Day 2009. Alec also appears in the ensemble piece, Fit Lover, which had a November 2008 release, as well as guest starring in a short Taiwan film, Love to the End. Looking for Third Sister Liu is currently shooting in Guangxi Province. Filming for the China/US co-produced fantasy special effects epic Empires of the Deep, directed by Pitof, will begin in 2009.
Along with his TV success, Alec has released thirty top-selling albums, starting as a member of the The Little Tigers group. As a solo artist he has released 14 albums, beginning in 1992 with I Only Want You to Love Me to his 2004 release Before and After.
Nicky Wu is the second child of the Wu family, with one older and one younger brother. He has been described as being athletic in his childhood, having participated in Judo and Taekwondo. His efforts in these two disciplines earned him three black belts in Judo and five in Tae Kwon Do. Moreover, Nicky was the provincial Taiwanese Tae Kwon Do champion for three consecutive years. Nicky also excelled academically during this time, consistently being placed amongst the top three in his class. Besides this, he earned awards in calligraphy, drawing and essay-writing.
In 1988, at the age of 17, Wu was spotted by an entertainment agent, while working part-time; the agent advised him to audition for Taiwanese boy band, Little Tigers Team. Initially Nicky refused, wishing to focus more on developing his career as an athlete, but he was eventually persuaded to go through with it. The audition was successful and he was chosen to be a part of the band, along with two others – Alec Su and Julian Chen. Nicky was given the name of "霹靂虎" for the band.
With the release of their albums Happy New Year and Leisurely Cruising, in 1988 and 1989 respectively, the Little Tigers Team achieved success and recognition, becoming pop idols in the region. The band's success is said to have inspired the next generation of Taiwanese pop acts, leading to the creation of other boy bands, such as F4.
After selling millions of copies, the band was forcibly put on hiatus due to Julian Chen's compulsory military service. Nicky continued in the entertainment industry by himself, branching out into Mandarin and Cantonese albums, with hit singles such as "Best Wishes to You" and "Waiting Day by Day". Going solo proved to be successful, when Wu won the 1993 Best New Artist award in Hong Kong, accompanied by the box office success of the Tsui Hark movie, The Butterfly Lovers, the following year in which he starred as the male protagonist, Liang Shangbo, alongside Charlie Yeung.
Nicky continued starring in other films such as Love in the Time of Twilight (1995), Thunder Cops (1996) and Never Say Goodbye (2001), though none of these films were able to match the critical and commercial success of The Butterfly Lovers. His musical success, however, earned him the title of one of Taiwan's "four small heavenly kings" (given to the four most popular teen idols of the 1990s) along with Alec Su, Jimmy Lin and Takeshi Kaneshiro.
With the broadcast of the TVB series At the Threshold of an Era, ATV series Treasure Venture and Taiwanese series Treasure Raiders in mainland China, Nicky Wu achieved fame in the television industry. Since then, he has been working consistently in both film and television, recently starring in the high-budgeted A Battle of Wits, alongside Andy Lau. Wu currently provides the voice of Dexter, in the Chinese version of Dexter's Laboratory.
Throughout the years, Nicky has been linked to stars in the entertainment industry such as Taiwanese singer Vivian Hsu and Hong Kong actress Charlie Yeung. In 1999, Nicky he was in the public eye for his much-publicized relationship with actress Ada Choi. The couple broke up in 2002 and Nicky began dating mainland actress Ma Ya Shu, a few months later. This newly-formed relationship had drawn criticism from the media, for Ma Ya Shu was rumored as "the third woman", in connection with Ada Choi. However, the couple dismissed this and recently got married in December 2006.
