This group is for ppl that is a fan of Yu yu hakusho and Dragonballz.
YuYu Hakusho
Yusuke Urameshi is a street-brawling delinquent with a tough guy approach to everything. Yusuke's mother Atsuko, an alcoholic, had him at the age of 15 and took a backseat in raising her son. He has a reserved seat in the guidance counselor's office, and numerous other delinquents in the city are trying to take him on. Yusuke is pretty fed up with life.
However, no one expects a sudden act of heroism on his part: he dies trying to save a little boy from a speeding car. In fact, when he arrives in the afterlife, he is informed that the child would've miraculously survived, had it not been for him the child would have one less scratch on his right sholder. Yusuke's pre-matured death was unexpected and unnecessary, and the afterlife was not prepared for his arrival.
After numerous tests to gauge his worth, Yusuke is eventually revived, and is assigned to work for the Spirit World as a detective investigating demon cases in the human world. He comes into spiritual abilities of his own, and enlists the help of numerous friends from Reikai (spirit world), Makai (demon world, translated in the English manga as the Demon Plane) and Ningenkai (human world) to aid him in his cases as they fight off demons and humans seeking to rule over all three worlds.
Main characters
Yusuke Urameshi
Yusuke Urameshi is a student, attending the fictional Sarayashki Junior High School. His poor attendance, constant fighting, and bad habits (drinking and smoking[1][2]) have earned him the label of delinquent among most of his teachers and classmates. This all changes rather abruptly as Yusuke is struck by a car and dies, saving a small child who had wandered into the road. As this caught the underworld by surprise, Yusuke is granted permission to return to his body and resume his life. However, while doing so it is revealed that Yusuke has a particularly strong Reiki (or Spirit Energy in the anime) and Koenma, the son of Enma, lord of the underworld, recruits him as Underworld Detective, charged with investigating supernatural phenomena in the human world and capturing criminals dealing in underworld crime. Yusuke bears quite a bit of affection for his childhood friend Keiko Yukimura, who initially takes a role as Yusuke's conscience, making sure he comes to class and behaves, and later as a romantic interest.
Yusuke's most common attack is the Reigun or the Spirit Gun (霊丸, Reigan?, lit. Spirit Sphere), spirit energy concentrated into his right index finger and released it as a projectile. At first he is only able to muster a single shot per day, but as he trains with Genkai he is able to fire multiple shots per day, as well as developing minor variations on the technique.
Kazuma Kuwabara
Kazuma Kuwabara is a student at the fictional Sarayashiki Junior High School. He is noted as the "second toughest punk at Sarayashki", despite his unusual affinity for kittens. He is constantly picking fights with Yusuke to prove himself tougher, but never succeeding. Eventually Kuwabara's feelings of anger toward Yusuke become feelings of respect. Kuwabara has a very advanced sixth sense, often sensing ghosts or conversing with them in his sleep. Yusuke uses this to his advantage in his attempt to return to life. Kuwabara ends up assisting in most of Yusuke's cases, gaining power of her own spirit energy which he wields as a Spirit Sword (霊剣, Rei Ken?, Aura Sword in the Viz translation). During an early case he meets the ice apparition Yukina and instantly falls in love. Yukina is very appreciative for him saving her from captivity, but is oblivious about his affection. As the story progresses Kuwabara becomes more engrossed in his studies, choosing to cram for his high school exams rather than follow Yusuke and the others into the Demon plane.
Keiko Yukimura
Keiko Yukimura is Yusuke's childhood friend and classmate. She has known Yusuke for many years and acts as a parental figure, often trying to get him to attend his classes and behave, though usually to no avail. Yusuke attempts to keep his job as spirit detective a secret from Keiko though she finds out about it during his third case, as the Saint Beasts end up using her as bait to anger Yusuke. Keiko worries about Yusuke but knows that he is more happy fighting demons than having a normal school life. She is noticeably upset when Yusuke leaves for the demon plane in the final story arc but waits for him after he promises to return so they can get married.
Genkai
Genkai is an elderly martial arts expert who lives alone in a very large temple. She first appears during Yusuke's second case as he infiltrates her tournament to find the demon Rando. Genkai is a legendary reiki master, known both in the human and demon realms. To find a rightful successor to her techniques she holds a tournament, which Yusuke wins. At first he is an unwilling pupil but immediately returns for training after being summoned to the Dark Tournament. When she was 50 younger, Genkai and the Toguro brother were lovers and teammates in an earlier Dark Tournament. After winning Toguro decides to become a demon, while Genkai returns to the human world, creating a split in their relationship. She enters the next dark tournament with Yusuke, disguising herself as the "Masked Fighter" in order to once again face Toguro. Her signature technique is the Spirit Wave, an outpouring of spirit energy from the whole body which can be directed through several different variations. This makes her technique effective in healing and purification, in addition to combat.
Koenma
Koenma is the son of spirit realm ruler Enma, and the one who takes responsibility of his father's work when he's away. Koenma usually appears as a toddler with a pacifier in his mouth, though he is said to be at least 700 years old. He can also transform into a young adult form, retaining his pacifier and the letters "Jr" on his forehead. Koenma acts as Yusuke's boss, assigning his cases. His pacifier is a receptacle, which Koenma constantly imbues with his spirit energy. It can create a powerful barrier which Koenma states is to fend off a dark evil sometime in the future.
Botan
Botan is the grim reaper, or guide to the underworld. She is charged with ferrying souls of the deceased to the underworld to face their final judgement. She also acts as Yusuke's assistant and trainer as he starts out his tenure as underworld detective. She teaches how to use the various detective tools, communicates messages from Koenma and often guides him to different destinations pertaining to his case. She will also join him in the field occassionally, protecting Kayko from insect crazed humans, acting as team trainer in the dark tournament, etc.
Kurama
Kurama is a demon thief who, after being fatally wounded by a Hunter, possesses and fuses with the unborn son of Shiori Minamino. Growing up for fifteen years as Shuichi Minamino (南野 秀一, Minamino Shūichi?), Kurama has learned to embrace his human lifestyle. Kurama is a polite, soft-spoken boy and a dutiful son. He is regarded as a prodigy at his high school, Meioh Private High School (私立盟王学園, Meiō Shiritsu Gakuen?)[5].
Calm and analytical, Kurama will go to any lengths to accomplish his goals, even if they endanger his life. He prefers to study the strengths and weaknesses of his opponents before devising a strategy of his own. He has an incredible sense of smell and has picked up many skills over the years, including the ability to read lips[6]. Kurama's real talent is with plants: He can turn plants into deadly weapons, and has been known to use herbal remedies to treat wounds and other ailments. His favorite weapon is a whip made from a rose, commonly called the Rose Whip (薔薇棘鞭刃?). Under certain circumstances, he is able to change into his original form.
The character known as Demon Fox Kurama in the English manga and Yoko Kurama in the English anime (妖狐蔵馬, Yōko Kurama?) is the demon fox trapped within Shuichi Minamino's body. He is a silver fox with four tails. He is also able to take a humanlike form, distinguished by his long silver hair, single tail and fox ears.
Hiei
Hiei is a male fire demon born to a race of female ice demons (氷女, kōrime?). His mother, Hina, is forced to abandon him because koorime prohibit interaction with males. Hiei is taken in by a group of thieves and learns to kill at a very young age. Throughout his traumatic childhood, his one shred of sanity is a necklace made from his mother's hiruiseki (氷涙石 ice tear stone). He eventually loses the necklace in the heat of battle. In order to find the lost hirui, Hiei acquires the surgically implanted Evil Eye (English manga) or Jagan (English manga) (邪眼?, evil eye). He uses the Jagan to seek out the place of his birth and learns that his grief-stricken mother committed suicide. Hiei also learns that he has a twin sister, Yukina, who has disappeared from the village. He now has another goal, to search for Yukina.
As a result of the Jagan operation, most of Hiei's energy was drained. When he begins to recover, he discovers that the Jagan has given him many powers, including hypnosis, telepathy, and clairvoyance or remote viewing. The Jagan can also turn him into a form with green skin and eyes sprouting all over his body, but Hiei rarely uses this form because it is "too uncontrollable." Preferring quick and efficient methods, Hiei relies on his natural speed and his skill with a sword. In dire circumstances he resorts to the uncontrollable Dragon of the Darkness Flame, or Jaō Ensatsu Kokuryūha (邪王炎殺黒龍波, Tyrant King's Blaze-Murdering Black-Dragon-Wave?). Hiei eventually learns how to control the dragon by absorbing it into his own body. When used in this way, the dragon increases his offensive and defensive abilities. While formidable, the technique drains so much energy that he becomes comatose after his energy has been used up.
Yukina
Yukina is the beautiful, thoughtful, and somewhat naïve sister of Hiei. Yukina is born as an ice maiden (氷女, kōrime?). In addition to her natural cryokinetic powers, Yukina studies healing. Her ability to produce priceless {{nihongo|hiruiseki| 氷涙石||lit. "ice tear stones") makes her the target of the crime lord Tarukane. Yusuke and Kuwabara, unknowingly shadowed by Hiei, go to rescue Yukina from Tarukane, who hires the Toguro Brothers as a torturer and a body guard. Yusuke and Kuwabara are forced to fight the Toguros, and while they are distracted Tarukane tries to escape with Yukina. However, Hiei puts a stop to Tarukane's plans for good.
After her rescue, Yukina returns to Hyōga no Kuni (氷河の国?, lit. "Glacier Country"). She appears again during the Dark Tournament in search of her older brother. By this point Yusuke, Koenma, Kurama, Botan and Shizuru know the identity of Yukina's brother, and though they tease Hiei about it they keep his secret. Yukina develops a special regard for Hiei and asks for his help in finding her brother, unaware that he is the person she seeks. Though Hiei never reveals his relation to Yukina, the anime hints that she has guessed the truth. Yukina is also the love interest of Kazuma Kuwabara, who fell head-over-heels for her as soon as he saw her. Though she seems fond of Kuwabara and likes his attention, she does not seem to understand his romantic intent. At the end of the manga Yukina moves in with the Kuwabara family, and in the anime she stays at Genkai's temple.
Dragonballz
The series continues the adventures of Son Goku who, along with his companions, defend the Earth and other fictional planets against various supervillains. While the original Dragon Ball anime followed Goku through childhood into adulthood, Dragon Ball Z parallels his adult life with the maturation of his first child, Son Gohan. The series also gives focus to the evolution of his rivals, Piccolo and Vegeta, from evil to good, with the former's evolution occurring early in the series and latter's spanning across the entire series. The separation between the series is also significant as the later series takes on a more dramatic and serious tone, with a number of villains either threatening or committing acts of mass murder or outright genocide.
Akira Toriyama's self-parody manga series Neko Majin satirizes many concepts introduced in Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z.
Main characters
Goku
Goku is a fictional character and the main protagonist of the Dragon Ball universe created by Akira Toriyama. He first appears in the first chapter Bulma and Son Goku (ブルマと孫悟空, Buruma to Son Gokū?) first published in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine on December 3, 1984.[1] He is loosely based on Sun Wukong, a central character in Journey to the West, however, Toriyama changed some of his characteristics to be more original. Goku is introduced as an odd, monkey-tailed boy who practices martial arts and possesses superhuman strength.[2] As the story unfolds, he is actually revealed to be from a fictional race of extraterrestrials called Saiyans, said to be the strongest warriors within the fictional universe.[3]
Goku starred in most of the films, specials and video games from the Dragon Ball series. Outside of the series, Goku also had cameo appearances in Toriyama's self-parody series Neko Majin Z. He also been the subject of parodies, and has also appeared in various special events and in American pop culture. Goku is usually recognized by his uniquely styled hair, which never changes its length throughout the series except when in his Super Saiyan forms, in which his hair changes color and length based on the level he ascends to. This is explained by Vegeta to be a common characteristic of full-blooded Saiyans.[7] Due to his devotion to Earth, Goku prefers dressing in a gi uniform, and has refused offers to adorn the Saiyan battle armor, being that he considers himself an Earthling.[8] However, he is seen donning a Saiyan battle armour designed by Bulma, during the time he trains with Gohan in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber at Kami's Palace, prior to the Cell Games.[9] In his early childhood, Goku was first introduced in a blue outfit with red wristbands and a white belt he kept tied in a bow.[1] After his training with Roshi, Goku would receive his trademark orange outfit, blue wristbands, and a belt. During his training with Kami-sama he would receive one similar to his trademark outfit; striped boots and black shirt which he would wear under his orange top. Later on, Goku would begin wearing a matching blue obi in place of his simple belt.[10] He is often seen to wear the in circled kanji of his training masters on the front and back his uniform; the first kanji being Master Roshi's, "kame" (亀?, meaning "turtle"),[11] the second kanji being King Kai's, "kaio" (界王?, meaning "world king")[12] and the third being his own kanji "Go" (悟?, meaning "wisdom" or "enlightenment").[13] Eventually he stops wearing a kanji.[10] By the end of the manga Goku would begin wearing a new outfit made up blue slip-over top, gray pants and orange wristbands and shin ribbons.[14] By the Dragon Ball GT series Goku's appearance was revamped featuring him with a blue fold-over top, yellow pants, pink wristbands, white shin ribbons, and a bronze complexion. Goku's most powerful attack is the Genki Dama (元気玉?, lit. "Good Spirit Ball", renamed "Spirit Bomb" in the English dub), a powerful sphere created by gathering chi energy from surrounding life forms, which he also learned from King Kai.[12] Goku also learns a teleportation skill called Shunkan Idō (瞬間移動?, lit. "Instant Movement", renamed "Instant Transmission" in the English dub), which he learned from the inhabitants of a fictional planet called Yardrat.[20]
Goku is also the only Saiyan in the series to achieve all the Saiyan transformations seen in the manga. During the events of Dragon Ball Z, Goku becomes the first Super Saiyan in a millennium after being overcome with rage by the murder of Krillin by the hand of Frieza[21] and as the series progresses he achieves every single advanced level of Super Saiyan. Each transformation changes Goku's appearance and enhances his abilities.
Vegeta
Vegeta is a fictional character in the Dragon Ball franchise created by Akira Toriyama. Vegeta first appeared in the manga chapter #204 Sayōnara Son Gokū (さようなら孫悟空, Goodbye Son Goku?) first published in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine on December 19, 1988,[1] and in episode 6 of its anime adaptation Dragon Ball Z (though he can be spotted briefly in a still scene in an earlier episode), as the prince of the nearly extinct race of alien warriors called the Saiyans. Vegeta was the original enemy of the series, hoping to use the seven Dragon Balls to gain immortality and galactic rule. As common enemies appear, Vegeta is forced into an often unstable alliance with the protagonists of the series. By the end of the manga, Vegeta develops into a trustworthy ally of the series' main character, Son Goku. Vegeta's character is known for his bitter rivalry with Goku, because in spite of his vigorous training and royal heritage, he often believed his strength and skill to be inferior to that of Goku. Vegeta's initial appearance in the manga is as a short and slightly stocky character, with upright standing hair and a defined widow's peak. Toriyama changed his appearance, gradually making him leaner, more masculine, and more mature-looking. Vegeta's appearance is again modified in Dragon Ball GT, in which he appears with a shorter hairstyle and wearing Western-style casual clothes. As a Saiyan, Vegeta also has a tail, which he loses in his initial battle on Earth with Goku and his allies. Over the course of the series, he has worn several variations of the Saiyan suit, though later on in the series (and subsequently the Dragon Ball GT series) he abandons the Saiyan armour completely for civilian clothing. Vegeta is known to give names for his various energy attacks. In his early appearance, Vegeta is seen to use attacks similar to several of the protagonists of the series, such as a ki disk (気円斬, kien ki?), a two fingered laser-like blast, and a chi wave similar to Goku's Kamehameha blast. This beam known as the Garlic Gun (ギャリック砲, Gyarikku Hō?, renamed Galick Gun in the English dub) is used by Vegeta during his battle against Goku in an attempt to destroy the Earth.[3] The Garlic Gun is the main attack used by Vegeta in most Dragon Ball Z video games although he uses it only once in the manga. Vegeta later develops the Big Bang Attack (ビッグ・バン・アタック, Biggu Ban Atakku?) and the Final Flash (ファイナルフラッシュ, Fainaru Furasshu?) attacks, which are much more powerful than his older energy attacks.[4][5] Vegeta's most commonly used attack in the series is when he bombards an opponent with an array of small chi blasts. Vegeta is not known to have a name for this attack, but it is officially called Renzoku Energy Dan (連続エネルギー弾?). Also in Dragon Ball GT he displays a powerful new attack entitling it the Final Shine Attack (ファイナルシャインアタック, Fainaru Shain Atakku?), where Vegeta uses his right hand to fire off a massive beam of green chi that widens with distance.
Piccolo
Piccolo is a fictional character from the Dragon Ball manga, authored by Akira Toriyama. Piccolo was first introduced as the reincarnation of the evil Piccolo Daimao in chapter #167 The Tenka'ichi Budokai Disturbance (波乱の天下一武道会, Haran no Tenkaichi Budōkai?) first published in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine on April 4, 1988,[1] making him a demon and archrival of the primary protagonist, Son Goku. However, it is later revealed that he is from the race of alien beings called Namekians. Piccolo is usually referred to as male, but as he is Namekian he is technically genderless. After Goku barely defeats Piccolo, Piccolo decides to team up with Goku and his friends in order to beat newer, more dangerous threats. He also trains Goku's first child Son Gohan, and they form a bond so strong that Piccolo sacrifices himself to save Gohan's life. But Piccolo is later resurrected by the Dragon Balls and permanently joins Goku and the others in their battles against other, even more powerful villains.
Around the start of the Namek Saga, it's revealed that Piccolo's name means "another world" in the Namekian language. When Piccolo Daimao was introduced in chapter #135 The Conspiracy of Kuririn's Death Comes Fearfully (クリリンの死そして恐ろしき陰謀, Kuririn no Shi Soshite Osoroshiki Inbō?) first published in Shonen Jump on August 10, 1987,[4] he was designed to appear as a strange-looking divine creature, who had pointy ears, antennae, and fangs. The audience is later introduced to Kami, who is Piccolo Daimao's good counterpart, and the two share an almost identical resemblance. Like Kami, Piccolo Daimao wore a kanji on the front of his gi, symbolizing the kanji that represented himself. When Piccolo Jr. is introduced, Toriyama designed him to appear roughly the same as Piccolo Daimao, but with a more solid facial structure. He also made the character discard the kanji. Even though Piccolo Jr. discards the kanji, he uses it once in the series when he made his pupil, Gohan, a uniform. Piccolo has shown many unique abilities throughout the series. Due to his Namekian physiology,[9] Piccolo can expand his arms,[10][11] move fast enough to not be seen,[12] regenerate lost limbs of his body[13][14] so long as his head is still intact,[15] and possesses superhuman hearing[16] and strength. Piccolo's Chōkyoshinjutsu (超巨身術, Super Large Body Technique?, "Super Giantification Spell" in Viz media) allows him to become gigantic to the point where he is capable of reaching mountain-like heights,[17] though it is unclear if these are his restrictions. He also has the ability to conjure objects such as garments and a blade,[18] including his cape and turban outfit[19][20][21] as well as a very large sandglass.[22] Among Piccolo's known psionic skills, he is able to communicate telepathically with select individuals. Thus, this enables him to read minds[23] and mentally contact others nearby.[24] In one instance, he alerts Trunks and Goten of Buu's proximity to the dimension where the two were training.[25]
Like many other characters in Dragon Ball, Piccolo has the ability of flight through the technique called buku-jutsu (舞空術, lighter than air?). He also possesses an attack called the Bakurikimaha (爆裂魔波, Exploding Wave?, "Destructive Wave" in the English dub), which is fired with one hand being supported by the other. One of Piccolo's most powerful attacks is the Makankosappo (魔貫光殺砲, Demon Screw Attack?, "Special Beam Cannon" in the English dub and "Light of Death" in Viz media) an attack that is expelled from Piccolo's index and middle fingers.[26][27] Unlike most energy-based attacks in Dragon Ball, the potent Makankosappo pierces its targets like a drill rather than enveloping them or exploding on contact. Piccolo's ultimate attack in the video games he has appeared in is called Renzoku Sen Kōdan (連続閃光弾, "Hellzone Grenade"?), which involves firing off many orbs of energy that float around the opponent. Piccolo then squeezes his hand to make all the orbs converge onto the opponent, exploding on contact. Piccolo also possesses the ability of "Scatter Shot" in which he fires many different chi energy blasts shot from one hand at the same time. Piccolo is also seen possessing an attack called the Masenkō (魔閃光, Demon Wave?), which Piccolo teaches to his pupil Gohan. Another move Piccolo is seen to have is the Gekiretsu Kodan (激烈光弾, Violent Grenade?, "Light Grenade" in the English dub) which is conjured by putting his hands on his chest, gathering energy and then releasing it outwards. One of Piccolo's less frequently used techniques is the ability to fire energy rays from his eyes (similar to "heat vision"), which he first uses against Krillin's energy attack during their match in the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament, then later against Goku in the finals, and again when he trains Gohan in the Saiyan Saga.
Piccolo can also perform the "Namekian Fusion" which he does with Nail on the distant Planet Namek to confront Frieza.
Gohan
Gohan is a fictional character from the Dragon Ball universe created by Akira Toriyama as a protagonist for the media franchise, which consists of a series of manga, anime, soundtracks, movies, television specials, video games, and other collectibles. Gohan is introduced as the first son of the primary protagonist, Son Goku, and his wife, Chi Chi, in volume #17 of the original manga, or the premiere episode of its animated adaptation, Dragon Ball Z. Gohan is the first Saiyan/Human hybrid in the series. As opposed to full-blooded Saiyans, whose hair stays the same from birth,[5] Gohan's is drawn at varying lengths, and changes markedly in style. Many of Yamcha's hairstyles are used by Gohan at various points in his life.[6]
Initially, Gohan is illustrated garbed in a Hanfu-like surcoat with the Chinese character 孫, fixed on the front and the four-star Dragon Ball fitted on top of his hat. Piccolo later supplies him with a keikogi fashioned after Goku's, but substitutes it with the demon character "魔" as a sign of his admission into the Demon Tribe.[7] Normally thereafter, Gohan is drawn with a keikogi modeled after Piccolo's own, with the anime recoloring his wristbands from blue to red and, during the Cell Games tournament, his obi from red to blue, despite reverting to the original colors for the former. On Namek, Gohan is portrayed in battle armor worn by Frieza's henchmen, having been given it by Vegeta in preparation for their encounter with Frieza. Prior to his second fight with Majin Buu, Gohan asks Kibito for an outfit resembling his father's, and is then drawn in a keikogi identical to Goku's. As a child, Gohan is depicted with a seemingly limitless dormant power, which at first only revealed itself when he experienced fierce rage or distress.[28][29]
Due to his mixed heritage, Gohan's character also exhibits unusual abilities, possessing power that surpasses that of regular Saiyans.[10] Vegeta suggests that mixing human and Saiyan blood begets powerful hybrids, which Nappa refers to as a Super Saiyan.[30] On Namek, Saichoro helped unlock a portion of his untapped potential, unable to bring out the fullest of his tremendous latent abilities.[31]
Gohan can also freely manipulate his chi for the use of abilities such as the Bukû-jutsu (舞空術?, lit. "lighter than air skill" or "sky dancing skill"), enabling him to fly,[32] or concentrate it into beams of chi energy blasts, such as the Kamehameha or Masenko (魔閃光, Masenkō?, lit. "Demon Flash"). Gohan also possesses enhanced strength,[33] as well as superhuman speed and reflexes.[34] He is able to ascend to Super Saiyan and Super Saiyan 2 levels.
Krillin
Krillin is a fictional character in the Dragon Ball manga, authored by Akira Toriyama, and later adapted to anime.
Krillin is introduced in Dragon Ball as a rival of the main character, Son Goku. Later in the series, he can also be seen having a close relationship with Goku, as well as his child, Son Gohan. Krillin eventually settles down and marries Android #18 after the Cell Games to have a child named Maron. Krillin's appearance stays relatively the same for the majority of the series. He is first introduced at the age of thirteen, with a shaved head and still dressed in the clothing worn at the monastery he had been training at. He does not possess a nose, and has six spots of incense burns on his forehead, a reference to the practice of Shaolin monks. After the end of the Cell Games Saga Krillin stops shaving his head, and grows his hair out.[6] His outfit also changes as the series progress. When he first appears in Dragon Ball, he wears the yellow-and-orange garb of a monk. Later, he wears the orange gi uniform that is presented to both himself and Goku by Master Roshi in honor of their first martial arts competition.[7] Occasionally he is seen in casual clothes, but for the most part continues to dress for training or fighting at all times.[8] During the Frieza Saga, he wears Saiyan armor provided by Vegeta,[9] but during the Cell Saga he returns to wearing the orange gi, accompanied by a blue short-sleeved undershirt and boots.[10] Prior to the Great Saiyaman Saga, Krillin opted to settle down with his new family, and allows his black hair to finally grow out. From this point on he is shown wearing a workout outfit consisting of a red short-sleeved shirt and brown drawstring pants.[11] Finally, he is shown in DBGT sporting a moustache, wearing grey pants, shirt and tie with a cardigan in his few appearances.
Krillin has many abilities including, super-strength, super-speed, and the ability to fly using his chi energy, also known as Bukū-jutsu (舞空術, Air Dance Technique?). His main techniques include the Kamehameha (かめはめ波?, lit. "Turtle Striking Wave"), an attack he learned from Roshi, which enables him to emit a powerful chi energy blast from his hands.[22] Kakusandan (拡散弾?, lit. "Spread Bullet"), another chi attack, involves firing two blasts, one from each hand, and merging them before directing the blast above an opponent where it will break up and rain down on them, he was only seen using this twice—the first time was very successful as he managed to wipe out three Saibamen with it. He has also been known to use the Double Kihō (ダブル気砲, Double Air Gun?). From Tien, he obtained the Taiyōken (太陽拳?, lit. "Solar Fist", renamed "Solar Flare" in the English dub), an attack Krillin is capable of using to blind his opponents, sometimes used to make a quick escape.[23] A technique he uses is the Kienzan (気円斬?, lit. "Energy Circle Razor", renamed "Destructo Disc" in the English dub), which he does by putting his hand in the air and creating an electric floating disc, using it to slice through his enemies.
Trunks
Trunks is a fictional character from the Dragon Ball franchise by Akira Toriyama. Trunks is the half-Saiyan son of Vegeta, the prince of the dying race of fictional aliens called the Saiyans, and Bulma, the heir of a massive company called Capsule Corporation. In keeping with the family's tradition of using puns for names, Trunks' name is derived from the term for men's swim shorts. Trunks has a slender muscular physique with his most dominate genes coming from his maternal side, thus resulting in his having blue eyes and lavender colored hair which is mostly shown in the undercut style.[2] During his early teens, this style was parted on his right side and his late teens it was parted in the middle. As he is half human, his hair tends to grow. Because of this, he wore his hair in an over the shoulders style during Cell Games arc. The color caused some confusion among the others characters that met him as Vegeta pointed out in chapter 139 and episode 121 a Saiyan's hair color is generally black.[3]
His facial features are nearly identical to his father's as pointed out by Bulma when awaiting Goku's return in the aforementioned chapter and episode.[3] Trunks can transform into a Super Saiyan which causes his hair to spike on end and takes on a golden color and his eyes a Turquoise or green color. Trunks possesses several abilities including superhuman strength, speed, reflexes, and energy waves. Which can be utilized by the use of chi. His main means of conveyance is a technique called buku-jutsu (舞空術, lighter than air?) which gives him the ability of flight.[8] However, Trunks does not rely on this technique as his only conveyance as he can also be seen piloting various crafts manufactured by his family's company including the time machine which allowed him to visit Goku in the past.[9]
Both incarnations can at least transform into basic Super Saiyan although their achievement of this form differs between incarnation. Future Trunks achieved this in his early teens but even this varies in media. In the TV special he would ascend after observing the body of the recently deceased Future Gohan.[10] Whereas, In the manga, he is shown to be a Super Saiyan for some time.[5] Present Trunks would be shown to have the ability at the age of eight.[11] In the Cell saga, Trunks would gain the ability ascend to 2nd and 3rd Super Saiyan grades[12] during his training with Vegeta in the Room of Time and Mind. Unfortunately, these forms would decrease his speed greatly and so he would abandon them after his first initial fight with Cell.
Bulma

Bulma is a fictional character who first appears in the Dragon Ball manga created by Akira Toriyama, followed by three anime adaptations. She first appears in the first chapter Bulma and Son Goku (ブルマと孫悟空, Buruma to Son Gokū?) first published in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine on December 3, 1984.[3] She was originally portrayed as a secondary main character, next to the main protagonist Son Goku. Her role is quickly downplayed as the series continues, though she does continue her role as a supporting character for the remainder of the series. Bulma is the daughter of Dr. Briefs; the founder of Capsule Corp., a fictional corporation that creates special capsules that are often used to store objects of various sizes. Being the daughter of a brilliant scientist, Bulma is also a scientist, as well as an inventor and engineer. She is most credited for inventing the Dragon Radar, a fictional device that is specifically designed to detect the energy signal emitted by a Dragon Ball.
Bulma's role as an inventor becomes important at several points in the series. Several of her creations were major to various plotlines, including a microband that could make her shrink, the time machine that brought her son Trunks to the past during Dragon Ball Z and the generator that allowed her husband Vegeta to achieve Super Saiyan 4 in Dragon Ball GT. Bulma's appearance in the anime differs slightly than her appearance in the manga. In the manga, her hair is usually depicted in a shade of fuschia, while in the anime and the first chapter of the manga, her hair is a shade of turquoise. Her hair in the film Dragon Ball: The Path to Power is changed to the manga color for unknown reasons.
Bulma's appearance in the series is not as consistent as the other characters as she quite often changes her hair style and clothing. Bulma has also been seen topless, in several chapters and two episodes. She is the only female character in the entire Dragon Ball series to appear topless. In most editions of the episodes in question the scenes are censored. Bulma's personality is like the typical female characters in Toriyama's stories; nagging and temperamental. Bulma at first is identical to the image of a pampered city girl for most of the series; arrogant and adventurous, but afraid of being alone. Her arrogance can be seen to stem from her intellect; Bulma is most recognized for her fierce determination to get what she wants, and can be viewed as reckless in those quests. Bulma is well known for her intellectual approach to situations and her beauty. Master Roshi frequently harasses her. She is also very proud of her abilities and can be very cantankerous when slighted, which may indicate a similar approach with other men. Throughout the series, Bulma goes through many life-threatening situations and is often a damsel-in-distress, needing the protection of Goku and the others.
Bulma mellows out as the series continues in the present timeline, ultimately befriending Vegeta and helping him adapt to Earth. Initially depicted to support Goku, whom she affectionately calls Son-kun, her relationship with Vegeta and his rivalry with Goku sparks a friendly rivalry with Chi Chi, but she manages to remain one of Goku's strongest supporters due to their long friendship.
Chi Chi
Chi Chi is the wife of Goku and the mother of Gohan and Goten. She is very protective over the well being of her family, and wishes to remove them from Goku's lifestyle of fighting and constant conflict. She attempts to have Gohan focus on studying during his childhood, but this is interrupted by the constant threats to Earth. She later relaxes with Goten, even training him herself. As the daughter of the Ox-King, she is very strong in her own right, having easily made it to the quarter-finals of the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai. She and Goku first meet as children, and Goku promises to marry her, thinking marriage is a kind of food. She later confronts him to have him fulfill the promise, despite the misunderstanding. She was voiced by Mayumi Shō in the Japanese version of the series until episode 88, from which point she was voiced by Naoko Watanabe. In the English Funimation dub, she is voiced by Laura Bailey and Cynthia Cranz. Chi Chi is played by Jamie Chung in the live-action film Dragonball Evolution; her voice was dubbed over by Ami Koshimizu in the Japanese version of the film.
Android 18
Android 18 is a human forcefully turned into a cyborg along with her brother, #17.[15] After being released by Dr. Gero, she travels with #16 and #17 in order to kill Goku, though they are interrupted by Cell and the Z Fighters several times. She and #17 are eventually absorbed by Cell, but later during the Cell Games, a hard blow from Gohan causes Cell to regurgitate her. Though Krillin is unable to wish for her to be turned into a human, he is able to have her self destruct device removed.[16] Krillin later pursues #18 and, at some point, they marry and have a daughter named Marron.[17] In Future Trunks' timeline, she is a mass murderer who is later killed by Trunks. She is voiced by Miki Itō in Japan, Enuka Okuma in the Ocean Group dub and Meredith McCoy in the Funimation dub.
Videl
Videl is the daughter of Hercule. Like her father, she trains in martial arts, even surpassing him in strength.[31] She uses her abilities to fight crime in the city, and after Gohan appears as the Great Saiyaman, she quickly figures out his identity. She uses that to blackmail him into showing her how to fly. After Buu is fully defeated, the two form a relationship, eventually become married, and have a child named Pan. When the two fight crime together afterwards, she takes on the role of the "Great Saiyaman 2 or Great Saiyawoman". She is voiced by Yuko Minaguchi in Japan, Moneca Stori in the Ocean dub, and Kara Edwards in the Funimation dub. Her name is an anagram of Devil, a play on words with her father's Japanese name (Mister Satan).
Chiaotzu
Chiaotzu is a small human that resembles a doll with white skin, red cheeks, and one hair under his hat. Though he is not physically strong, he is skilled with psychokinesis and telepathy. He first studies under the Crane Hermit with his close friend, Tien Shinhan. After Tien realizes that the Crane Hermit's teachings are wrong, the two leave him and join with Goku and his companions. He continues to support Tien throughout the series, even going as far as self-destructing on Nappa in order to attempt to save him. After the fight with Turles' team in the movie The Tree of Might, Chiaotzu no longer becomes involved in battle. He is voiced by Hiroko Emori in Japan, Cathy Weseluck in the Ocean Group dub and Monika Antonelli in the Funimation dub.
Tien Shinhan
Tien Shinhan known as Shinto in the Harmony Gold dub, is first introduced in chapter 113 of the manga series.[26] Initially an enemy of Goku who was trained by Roshi's rival the Crane Hermit, Tien soon makes peace with Goku and becomes a Z Fighter. Accompanied by his friend Chiaotzu, Tien enters the 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament[27] and faces Goku, who proves to be a more than worthy opponent. Eventually, after Goku survives every attack thrown at him, Tien destroys the arena with his Kikohou, but Goku jumps into the air and uses his Kamehameha to slam himself into Tien. Both fighters fall down to the ground, but Goku is hit by a passing car, causing him to land on the ground first, which makes Tien the winner. Afterwards, Tien and Chiaotzu become allies of Goku. He participated in the battle against the Saiyans in Dragon Ball Z, in which he is killed by Nappa, along with Chiaotzu, Yamcha and Piccolo. The four of them are trained by King Kai and later revived by Porunga. Tien also participated in the battles against Cell and Majin Buu.
Tien is bald and has three eyes, the third placed on his forehead. The third eye is from becoming enlightened.[28] When Toriyama began creating the Dragon Ball series, he used Wu Cheng'en's Journey to the West as a prototype for his own work.[29] Tien's three eyed physical characteristic resembles the story character Erlang Shen, and both are warriors who were originally adversaries of the main character.[30] His outfits change consistently as the series goes on, and he usually doesn't wear a shirt when fighting. In the Japanese version of the series, he was voiced by Hirotaka Suzuoki until his death in 2006; Kōichi Yamadera acted as a substitute for Suzuoki for episodes 82 and 84 of the series. He is voiced by Mitsuaki Madono in Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit and by Hikaru Midorikawa in Dragon Ball Kai. In the English Funimation dub of the series, he was voiced by Chris Cason in the third season and by John Burgmeier from the fourth season onwards and in the redub of the third season. He was voiced by Matt Smith in the Canadian Ocean Group dub.
Yamcha
Yamcha known as Zedaki in the Harmony Gold dub, is introduced as an outlaw and starts out as an antagonist of Son Goku's in order to steal his Dragon Ball and wish not to feel nervous when being near to women. He eventually reforms, becoming an ally and Z Fighter. After participating in Baba's tournament, Yamcha requests to become the pupil of Master Roshi, to which Master Roshi obliges. As result from such training, Yamcha becomes able to develop various energy techniques such as the Kamehameha and the Soukidan, an energy sphere which he can control after throwing it. He soon becomes able to fly and is able to train with various gods from the Dragon Ball universe. After the attack from the Red Ribbon's androids, he quits fighting, noting that he is very weak in comparison to his friends. His constant companion is Puar. During the series, he holds a romantic relationship with Bulma, but they break up some time after Future Trunks' first appearance. He is voiced by Tōru Furuya in the Japanese version of the series. In the English dub, he is voiced by Ted Cole and later Christopher Sabat.[32] In the 2009 Dragon Ball live-action film, he was portrayed by Joon Park, whose voice was dubbed over by Hisao Egawa in the Japanese dub of the film.
Goten
Goten is the second and final child of Goku, the series' protagonist. First introduced in the 230 chapter of the manga,[18] Goten resembles his father in appearance, with the same hair-style and similar clothing. In chapter 324, Toriyama changes his appearance to avoid confusion with Goku to include a shirt bearing his name, and a longer, shaggier hairstyle.[19] Goten is trained by his older brother Son Gohan in preparation for the 25th World Martial Arts Tournament, which their father would be attending. During the training, Gohan discovered Goten could become a Super Saiyan.[20] He also possesses the Kamehameha, a technique that concentrates chi energy and is released into a powerful beam.[21]
In order to save the world from the villain Majin Buu, Goku and Piccolo teach Goten and Trunks the "Fusion" technique, which allows them to transform into a single powerful warrior, Gotenks. Gotenks battles Buu multiple times but even when he transforms into a Super Saiyan 3 he is unable to defeat Buu. Buu temporarily absorbs Gotenks, increasing his own power, but Vegeta and Goku are able to retrieve them from Buu. When Buu destroys the Earth in the 312 chapter, Goten and Trunks are killed.[22] The Dragon Balls later bring Goten back to life along with the rest of the Earth in order to give energy to Goku's Super Genki Dama attack, which defeats Buu.[23] Goten then returns to a normal life on Earth.
Masako Nozawa voices Goten in Japanese, while he is voiced by Kara Edwards (as a child) and Robert McCollum (as an adult) in the English version.
Master Roshi
Master Roshi Master Roshi, known in Japanese versions as Kame Sen'nin (亀仙人, Kame Sennin?) and Muten Rōshi (武天老師?), is an ancient and wise martial arts master and the first Earthling to wield the Kamehameha. Though he seems frail, he is a mighty warrior, having trained Grandpa Gohan, Ox King, Son Goku, and others. He is a stock character, as he is both the archetypal wise old man and dirty old man, the latter being typical of shōnen manga. Still, he is depicted to be a very wise and gentle person, who loves life and its simple pleasures, but is willing to die if necessary, such as when performing the Mafuba technique (Evil Containment Wave in the English dub) against Piccolo Daimao.[25] He sometimes gets cranky, which further provides comic relief. He is bald, with a thick van dyke beard and wears sunglasses. Roshi wears beach clothes or martial arts suits and, during the earlier stages of the series, a turtle shell on his back. He usually wields a walking stick. When wishing to act anonymously in the World Martial Arts Tournament, Roshi uses the name Jackie Chun.
Roshi was originally voiced by Kōhei Miyauchi. Miyauchi's final acting session before he died was for episode 260 of Dragon Ball Z, which he recorded only 3 months before his death. The episode aired on March 15, 1995. In his final line, he yells out "Kuririn!", and is turned into a bar of chocolate by Majin Buu shortly afterwards. Since episode 288 of Dragon Ball Z, Roshi is voiced by Hiroshi Masuoka, who voices him throughout Dragon Ball GT and in the recent video games, such as Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi. He is voiced by Kinya Aikawa in the 10th anniversary special and by Masaharu Satō in movie 13. In the Funimation dub, he is voiced by Mike McFarland. He is portrayed by Chow Yun-Fat in the live-action film Dragonball Evolution; his voice was dubbed over by Tsutomu Isobe in the Japanese dub of the film.
