She loved it so much that she decided to call herself "Crystal." Since then, Yifei has been collecting Swarovski crystal as a hobby.
When Yifei was eleven, she moved to New York City with her mom. She lived in the United States of America for four years. In June 2002, Yifei returns to China to pursue an acting career, She adopted her stage name Yifei. Other famous graduates from the Institute are famous actress Zhao Wei (class 2000) and popular actor Huang Xiaoming (class 2000) who later became Yifei's co-star in "The Return of the Condor Heroes."
Immediately after her admittance into Beijing Film Academy, Yifei received offers to star in various television drama serials. Her first role on television was in “Jin Fen Shi Jia” (金粉世家) i.e. "The Story of a Noble Family." Shortly after, she was chosen to portray the role of "Wang Yuyan" in Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils ((Tian Long Ba Bu - 天龙八部), a drama based on the book by the acclaimed wuxia writer, Louis Cha a.k.a. Jinyong . It was this role that established her fame in China.
