I heard the engine start to race
I heard that driver call my name
But I never saw his face.

The door slammed shut, the car drove off
As I stood there shaking out of fright.
I watched that black sports car speed off
Down the dampened streets that night.

As it traveled down the roadside
Past the stoplight turning red,
My mind kicked into overdrive
At what went racing past my head!

I couldn't stop my hands from shaking
I felt the beating of my heart
I watched those two green lights dance by me
As I stood trembling in the dark.

I was shaken by the vision
Afraid of what I'd seen
Blinded by that foreign sports car
With those two lights glowing green.

Just two green lights reflecting
On a street I walked alone
I thought about that car and driver
As I hurried to my home.

Two green lights that shimmer
Two green lights and that was all.
That rainy night beneath the streetlight
An alien auto came to call.

I turned to look once more
It disappeared without a sound
Its green lights just a memory
On the streets of my hometown.

It was there! I swear I saw it!
But I was the only one to see.
And someday soon I do believe
It will return for me.

I believe that I will see it
In the corner streetlight's glow,
A black sports car will be waiting
With it's engine idling low.

I believe that I will hesitate
As that car door opens wide
But I believe I'll step inside next time
When I'm asked to take that ride.

And the door will close behind me
As I settle in its seat
And I'll think about those green lights
Dancing on the city streets.

And we'll race on down the highway
And we'll leave without a sound.
You might just catch a glimpse of us
As we cruise through your home town.

At first you might be frightened
When the car door opens wide
You'll hear that driver call your name
And beckon you inside.

And you too might just be tempted
As that sports car speeds away
Deep down inside you'll know
That he'll be back for you someday.

You'll watch that sports car race away
Disappear without a sound
And you'll watch those green lights
Dancing down the streets of your hometown.

That black sports car will call to you
With that driver as your guide
And you'll settle comfy in the seat
And just enjoy the ride.
