At Home, As A Pet
Momo is, in one word, adorable. He very willingly plays the part of a pet to Sumire, going through all the motions of being a loyal (if slightly too clingy) dog. He greets her happily when she gets home, making exclamations of how he'd waited all day and he was hungry and wanted attention right now. When he feels abandoned he mopes around, whimpers for attention, and finally plays pranks on her to show his displeasure at being ignored. But as soon as the attention he sought was given, he was happy, energetic, and clingy once more. He definitely encapsulated the persona of your typical dog, although with the added ability of speech; something which Sumire found annoying from time to time. He was singularly useless to her in any practical way since he couldn't cook (and cut himself as part of the package), couldn't clean (as he broke most of her pricey possessions), and couldn't help out with other household chores (as he inevitably screwed them up somehow too). In fact, Sumire was relieved that Momo was at least "properly housebroken". Still, Momo played an unusually intuitive pet to Sumire, almost always being able to figure out what she was feeling and what she probably needed from him as her pet. But even though he played the part of the clumsy, loving, adorable pet for her, in the end he couldn't ignore that in the end he was a human, not a pet, and there were feelings he experienced that a dog could not.
As Goda Takeshi
Takeshi seems an almost completely different person from Momo. Although still energetic and happy, he's much more collected and self-reliant than his pet persona and doesn't seem nearly as considerate. Popular and perhaps a bit of a playboy, when he makes a decision as Takeshi it's generally more impulsive and perhaps more selfish as well. The selfishness does not lie in his simply being a cruel person though, it's more that in taking care of himself and his own needs, he inadvertently hurts those around him without much thought. When he's Momo, his life revolves primarily around Sumire, but as Takeshi he has a life of his own with his own friends and goals in life. In fact, it was as Takeshi that he made the decision to say on in Sumire's home as a pet and to become Momo so he would have a place to stay while training for a dance competition. He didn't stay initially because he wanted to take care of her emotionally as a pet; he just needed a place to stay. Over time though, he found that to some degree he was starting to become more Momo than Takeshi, and that he liked Momo, liked being Momo, and found himself most comfortable when he was Momo with Sumire. As he told Junpei "I don't like myself either. But I did like Momo. Momo was a really good boy."
