Sasuke Uchiha
Sasuke is a member of the Uchiha clan, a highly skilled clan of ninjas allied to the village of Konohagakure. His primary motivation throughout the series is to avenge the destruction of his entire clan by killing his brother, Itachi Uchiha, a task he pursues at all costs. While he was initially cold and singularly driven by his revenge, he becomes more empathetic through his relationships with other characters, notably Naruto Uzumaki, who he comes to consider as a rival
Itachi Uchiha
Itachi Uchiha (うちは イタチ, Uchiha Itachi?) is a missing-nin from Konohagakure and is partnered with Kisame Hoshigaki. During his time in Konoha, Itachi's prodigious talents and rapid development into a skilled ninja earned great attention from his family, the Uchiha clan. He eventually began to train under Madara Uchiha and in time killed his best friend, Shisui Uchiha, to gain the Mangekyo Sharingan. He soon joined forces with Madara in killing all living Uchiha except for his younger brother, Sasuke Uchiha. Knowing that the blindness brought on by possessing the Mangekyo Sharingan could only be cured by taking the eyes of one's sibling, Itachi spared Sasuke so he could someday take his brother's eyes. Hoping that Sasuke might obtain his own Mangekyo Sharingan by then, Itachi encouraged his younger brother to live hating him and striving to avenge the clan. At some point in time Itachi joined Akatsuki. While it stands to reason that he joined after massacring the Uchiha, the timeline that has been given throughout the series coupled with his age suggests that he joined the organization prior to killing his clan.
Despite his status as a wanted criminal and murderer, Itachi does not display any open enjoyment in violence or combat. Itachi instead prefers to avoid battle or, if that is not possible, end it quickly while exerting as little effort as he can. When he does fight Itachi remains stationary, attacking only in defense and to otherwise avoid damage. He also studies an opponent's movements with his Sharingan eyes, using them to properly assess an opponent's actions and respond accordingly. With his Mangekyo Sharingan, Itachi can utilize attacks such as Tsukuyomi (月読, literally "Moon Reader"?), a genjutsu that can torture an opponent for what seems like days in a matter of moments. Itachi is also very adept with standard genjutsu, and can trap others within an illusion by merely pointing or looking at them, as well as turn their own genjutsu against them. He is also noted to be extremely fast with his techniques and movements, extending to his hand signs and weaponry as well
Tobi
Tobi was initially seen as an associate of Zetsu. He appeared clumsy and was very polite in his speech. After Sasori was killed in battle, Tobi was eager to replace Sasori as a new member of Akatsuki. He eventually succeeded and apparently took over Sasori's position in the group. He was then partnered with Deidara. After Deidara's death, it was revealed Tobi gave direction to Pain as to the course of action for the group. He was also revealed to possess the Sharingan and claimed to be Uchiha Madara. Whether Tobi himself is the original Madara or something else is unknown.
Kakashi Hatake
Kakashi is the son of Hatake Sakumo; a ninja blessed with extreme skill which earned himself the nickname of Konoha’s White Fang. This was either due to his sharply pointed white hair or the family tanto he carried, which emitted a white chakra when used by a Hatake. Kakashi himself would later possess this. Sakumo’s reputation was comparable with that of The Legendary Three but his attitude proved to be his undoing. Sakumo aborted a mission that cost his village dearly, with the reason for the abortion being the safety of his comrades. Shamed, Sakumo took his own life. Kakashi grew up with a very cold attitude, basing efficiency in carrying out the mission to be the #1 priority. His reputation has been widely increased thanks to an unexpected advantage coming from the first mission he performed as a Jounin. During a war, Kakashi’s objective was to destroy a bridge that aided the enemy Rock ninja forces. In an encounter with them, the team’s medic, Rin, was kidnapped and interrogated by the enemy. Kakashi, seeing her as a hindrance to the team, made the decision to leave her. However, his other companion, Uchiha Obito, refused and rejected his ideals.Catching up to Rin, the pair ran into another enemy, who attempted to kill all three by crushing them with falling rocks. As one was about to strike Kakashi, Obito slung him aside and took the hit instead. Totally crushed on his right side, Obito knew his death was imminent and made the decision to have his left eye removed and implanted into Kakashi by Rin. Kakashi accepted it and sought revenge on the Rock ninja. The battle broke the tanto in half, perhaps symbolic of Kakashi’s heartlessly efficient motto only being half correct. Kakashi then fell back on the perfected version of his first self-created move: Chidori.
Madara Uchiha
Madara Uchiha (うちは マダラ, Uchiha Madara?) spent his early life in constant competition with his younger brother. Being equal in every respect, the two constantly trained to outdo each other, leading to each acquiring their own Mangekyo Sharingan. Together they took control of the Uchiha clan, with Madara as its leader. Though it made him much stronger, the Mangekyo Sharingan eventually left Madara blind, and it was only by taking the eyes of his brother that he regained his sight. This had the side effect of granting Madara immortality. With this newfound strength Madara came to be known as the most powerful shinobi alive, conquering and assimilating every clan he came across.
Madara's clan eventually banded together with that of the future First Hokage to create Konoha. Madara and the First disagreed on how to run the village, culminating in their battle at the Valley of the End. Madara lost, and was banished from Konoha. After his defeat, Madara created Akatsuki so that he could operate in the shadows. As an Akatsuki member, he uses the alias Tobi. He later used his Mangekyo Sharingan to have the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox attack Konoha, though the fox was defeated by the Fourth Hokage, Minato Namikaze. At only a fraction of his former strength, he returned to Konoha again, trained Itachi Uchiha, and assisted him in slaughtering all of the remaining Uchiha.
Obito Uchiha
Obito Uchiha (うちは オビト, Uchiha Obito?) was the teammate of Kakashi Hatake and Rin under Minato Namikaze. He was frequently late for missions as a result of what he claimed were random good deeds he'd carry out along the way. Obito often spoke without thinking, a trait that Minato considered a flaw, but was very impassioned and persuasive in doing so. He also had a crush on Rin. During the Kakashi Gaiden arc, Rin is kidnapped by enemy ninja. When Kakashi is unwilling to go and help her, Obito states that those who do not save their teammates are trash. Obito goes to save Rin by himself, though Kakashi, touched by his words, soon joins him. During their attempt to save Rin, Obito is crushed in a rock slide when he pushes Kakashi out of the way. With their surroundings continuing to cave in on them and Obito unable to move, Obito gives Kakashi his remaining Sharingan eye as a gift. Kakashi and Rin are forced to leave him as the cave collapses, and Obito uses his last moments to wish he could have spent more time with Rin and the rest of his team.
Shisui Uchiha
Shisui Uchiha (うちは シスイ, Uchiha Shisui?) was the best friend of Itachi Uchiha; in fact, Itachi thought of him as an older brother. Despite this, after Shisui appears to have committed suicide by intentionally drowning in a river, Itachi becomes the primary suspect in his death. Itachi later confirms that he murdered Shisui to obtain the Mangekyo Sharingan.
