    Good set-up but Slow
I think the story is really interesting, and the information and setting is presented in a good way... but everything is just going by so slowly, there isn't much conflict. I got up to 5 episodes but it feels like I'm just forcing myself to watch it from there.

    Beautiful, contemplative, intense, and strange.
This series kind of spoiled me, and I've never found anything else quite like it. A mixture of mystery, fantasy, slice-of-life, and drama. Simple, but beautifully made. There's basically no action and no romance, but it's stuck with me more than almost any other anime. It gets much more dramatic and tense about halfway through, but you'll know after the first episode whether it's your bag or not.

    Can your friends save you?
A very different anime series, with a much more European, sedate, and patience than you'd expect for this allegory about death and friendship. I think the show does a good job not showing you too much: you're getting a peak into this world for a very short period of time, and many potential storylines in the past, the future, and outside the walls are left to your interpretation. Also, the ...

  • One of the few anime Masterpieces
Haibane Renmei is solidly slice-of-life. Not one thing during the series explodes, nor are swords ever shown. The slow-paced story lurking underneath though is exquisite and emotion filled. There is a great deal of symbolism thoughout this series.

If action is the only thing which keeps you watching, or you need the main storyline to be obvious by the end of the first episode, avoid Haibane ...

  • Haunting in a Beautiful Way
This show will leave you with far more questions than answers, but the journey will have been worth it. Having seen this show a few times now, I'm only now starting to comprehend its true depth. There's seriously a lot of metaphor and symbolism to unpack here, and it's difficult to catch it all, even after multiple viewings.

Just don't expect a traditional narrative arc. What you get instead is ...

    Absolutely outstanding.
Honestly, I'm both open and a bit picky when it comes to watching Anime. I have to be in the right mood, and it has to have certain elements to keep me interested.
This one is absolute gold. The story is fantastic, the animation is gorgeous. Love it!

Yasuyuki Ueda Makes a SoL and Fails Me. More at 11
    Story: 3/10
Nothing really takes place. I know there's a lot of symbolism and world construction throughout the first few episodes, but these cannot be the primary fuel for the journey. The first few episodes are spent with Rakka trying to find a job, which is supposed to be like a light, existential journey of searching where one belongs, but it's not very strong and clouded by this awkward ...

    Aboslutely beautiful
Haibane Renmei is worth the watch. It is beautifully drawn, the music is haunting, the story is profound and yet light-hearted.
It is a show to make you ponder what is would be that is holding you back and needs to be healed in your life.
Take the time to watch this.

  • Quite possibly the BEST Slice-of-Life Anime ever made, and an absolute CLASSIC.
When it comes to Slice of Life, there's two titles that immediately stand out: one is Aria, and the other is Haibane Renmei. This is the most light-hearted in the infamous ABE Trilogy(Texhnolyze and Serial Experiements Lain are the other two), and it's a gem of a series. It starts out light-hearted, and quickly picks up speed half-way through resulting in a satisfying ending to a fantastic ...
