Change of Pace anime- Well written and worth your time
If you can get past the admittedly exaggerated art style, HoFL is worth a try. I was fairly skeptical about the series at first, but it is an interesting story, well written and one that kept me wondering who the various members of the house were- their roles and relationships. The art does grow on you after a while too.
I imagine it won't appeal to everyone, not many anime series can, but if you ...

    well written, good seiyuu
The show wasn't what I expected based on the marketing materials, but it turned out to be a great production. Solid dialogue carries a well woven story that brings you into the hearts and minds of the characters. It's too bad it had ratings trouble in its timeslot - I suspect it is because at first it appears to be an action anime, but the pacing ends up being slower.

    I highly recommend it.

    Unfulfilled Potential
This anime isn't bad, it just isn't great either. The character designs are very similar to restaurant paradisio, where the characters have a froglike quality. The background artistry is fantastic though, and they are great at setting a mood.

The story is filled with great and apparently interesting characters who are all innately flawed in some way. You really can't wait to see them ...

  • Masanosuke the Obscure
I found the character design a bit jarring at first, but the sympathetic, soulful characters, chill vibe and atmospheric soundtrack compelled me to marathon this title. Those who wanted to see Masa go postal have missed the point. This is about Kizuna, the bonds of friendship, however unlikely they may seem at the outset, and the resultant personal growth/healing.. Manzoku dekimashita, arigatou!

6 hours is definitely worth it to watch this series
Opening and ending song are enjoyable to listen and keep the calm and upbeat feeling from the anime flowing. All the characters have interesting backgrounds and the show is able to keep details hidden. This unique, dialogue heavy show is very entertaining and should entertain all anime lovers.

    Quiet, relaxed, character-driven show
House of Five Leaves had been on my list of anime to watch for a while now, and when it came to Crunchyroll it seemed like an excellent time to check it off the list. I am kicking myself for not watching this sooner.

If I had to describe House of Five Leaves in a nutshell, I'd call it a "samurai slice of life." There is an undercurrent of potential violence with occasional flashes that boil to ...

    Subtle, Elegant, Story-Driven, Anime
I have only once before been so impressed by serious, dramatic, animated artwork that I was compelled to comment on it. House of Five Leaves is more delicate than a spider web, and just as deadly at its heart. If you want adrenaline releasing. pulse-pounding, action have at it; then wait for a quiet, contemplative, mood to strike you before you come here. This is a serious, adult level, look ...

    Complex and Refreshing
    Intro:
This a great anime and deserves high marks. I would describe this anime as a Time-Period-Slice-of-Life with complex characters and meaningful story. In this review I will cover Animation, Music, and Story.

    Animation:
I must first say that this anime does not have any action in it. In fact, the action moments are more suggestive than visual - a dagger flying away then a ...

  • Cool and Interesting
I'm a fan of black & white samurai movies and this felt similar to some of them in many ways. It's enjoyable seeing a historical setting rather than a fantastical setting. The drawing style of the faces was kind of hard to get past but other than that I have no complaints. This definitely isn't a swashbuckling kind of anime though, so if that's what you're looking for, you're barking up the wrong ...
