Crunchyroll is proud to boast a platform that provides a robust service to its customers all around the world.  The operations team is responsible for operating that platform reliably and at scale, both for customers as well as content partners and developers.  As a member of the team, you have a direct impact on design and feature enhancements to keep our systems running smoothly.  You also ensure that operations are safe and efficient by monitoring performance, coordinating planned maintenance, adjusting hardware components, and responding to issues.  Keeping the platform reliable ensures that our users, partners, and developers stay satisfied, engaged, and productive.

A successful candidate will have extensive experience managing both data center and cloud infrastructure for secure, large scale, and highly available services.  Technical and organizational vision, combined with flawless execution and a commitment to delivery is critical to this role.  The role will also require strong partnership with engineering teams, product management, customer support, security teams and vendors.


  • Operate, maintain, and improve the systems infrastructure and application development platform for a leading global destination and platform for Japanese anime and Asian content.
  • Coordinate team efforts through task, milestone, and objective tracking along with metric reporting.
  • Contribute to the development of operations processes and procedures, along with training programs and documentation.
  • Own the expansion of the operations team, and lead relevant hiring efforts while working closely with staff recruiters.
  • Oversee and execute hardware and system maintenance, minimizing impact to services.  Assist with the implementation and commissioning of new hardware installations.
  • Handle escalated issues and work closely with the operations team to resolve issues.  Validate problem descriptions and perform detailed problem diagnosis.
  • Assist with the creation of post-mortem reports following operational events and ensure follow-through on related action items.
  • Act as an externally-facing point of contact to coordinate service and operational support.


  • 7- 10 years experience implementing or supporting large-scale web/video products/platforms.
  • 4+ years management experience in the technology industry.
  • Strong experience scaling virtualized environments in AWS
  • Proven track record of automation -  ‘Infrastructure as code’ and CI/CD
  • Solid understanding of highly available, secure services and a proven ability to deliver them against a roadmap.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  The ability to influence others with your ideas.
  • Strong background in leading Linux systems administration, specifically RHEL/CentOS.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand complex systems, and drilling down to resolve problems
  • Proven ability to innovate new ideas and projects to automate existing and legacy systems
  • Experience with centralized logging stacks such as ELK
  • Knowledge of monitoring and graphing systems (Nagios/Icinga, Cacti, Ganglia, Graphite)
  • Strong experience with current web and Internet technologies like NGinx, Redis, MariaDB, MySQL, CDN, DNS
  • Clear understanding of networking technologies, such as load balancers, firewalls, and switches.
  • Experience writing libraries or applications in Python is a plus
